The plot of Rick Dangerous is largely based on the Indiana Jones movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. Set in 1945, British agent Rick Dangerous travels to the Amazon jungle to search for the lost Goolu tribe. His plane crashes in the jungle, and Rick must escape from the enraged Goolu. When the game starts Rick finds himself in a cave running from a rolling boulder, a famous scene from the Indiana Jones movie.

Immensely satisfied that the death WAAAHHH made it in at 0:50 - remember playing this (and more so the sequel) quite a bit as a child, never got very far, died a lot, my "totally legit" copies of the games didn't work most of the time...but still a lot of fun.

This was like a precursor to Splunky. It is quite in-depth and amazing for the time.

spent countless hours on this game on Amiga. Always trying to get the full 6 lives when making it to the last level #4. I believe I did it a few times.

Well, they sure didn't spent much money on sound effects 😂 I do remember that I found the intro melody very catchy - and still do till this day...

So Rick is looking for the Goolu tribe, then because he doesn't do proper airplane maintenance checks (and is likely a terrible pilot) crash lands right in the middle of Goolu country. He has succeed! He found the tribe! And then he kills them all. Hmm. I don't think I like this Rick Dangerous very much.

Gamers these days say 'I remember this was hard when I was a kid'? You felt like you were on a time limit and you weren't. This is long before an age of speedruns and World Records was really a thing. Every game is about trial and error and to err is human as they say. My time with Core was when Chuck Rock came out.
This game is MUCH better than the "trap adventure", that has become famous because some youtubers played it.

They are “wild Goolus” as opposed to the “domesticated goolus” he wanted to see. So he sees them as wildlife, and him attacking as possibly justified self-defense.

Especially the implications pf how he treats animals.
You couldn't finish the game due to an error of the design team. You had to fall on a ledge to the right but the ledge wasn't long enough so you fell into the lava and died.
They brought out Rick Dangerous 2 soon after.
