    Do you grow any shelled varieties of beans? What's your favorite?

      Now I'm confused. I planted five varieties of dried beans this year (great northern, pinto, navy, light and dark kidney). I also have regular green beans. Now to can the dried beans, I left all of my beans on the vine until they reached the dried/shriveled stage for pressure canning ( thus 90% of my vines have all been harvested since they reached the dried stage). I did this because I was told you can pressure can organic beans we purchase from a store also so I bought a few more navy and great northern since I did not get enough from the garden.. You say the yellow stage is when they should be harvested to pressure can. So what's up? Can I pressure can all these beans I've been saving which are dried so that they work OK (I've never pressure canned beans - this will be the first attempt). And since you say the complete dried beans are what is used for seed next year, well I might as well become a bean farmer because I have way too many dried beans and hardly anything left for canning on the vines.

      I like Jacob's Cattle beans. They are white with red or pinkish spots.

It's been really Hot here in NE Ohio zone 6a but starting to cool down a bit...Hopefully, the cooler weather will help ! Thank You for this video and your video on how to Can Shelled Beans ! You, As Always, Are The BEST !!!!

    I built my 2 bean teepees like you had instructed, and a category 1 hurricane came through here a couple of weeks ago. One had the string tying them together down a couple of feet, and the other was completely intact, so I consider that very sturdy and will keep doing it that way. Thanks a lot for that tutorial!

    I’m curious about your teepees, do you have a video on them? Specifically what size wood did you use and how far apart at the bottom?

      Yes. I didn’t know you could do this either. Also, How do you use them after canned? I never thought of using beans I grew for “green beans” for canned beans. I grow Kentucky wonder green beans. I’m looking forward to that video next week.

    Good Morning Melissa…Hope All is Well in Your Part of this Wonderful World !
    I know you do shelled beans and I have a question….
    I planted Anasazi Beans and the plants are full of beans that are not quite ready to harvest for shelled beans.
    The weather is turning colder by the day (night temps in the high 40’s and low 50’s, possible patch frost in the next few days !) NE Ohio zone 6a...
    Will the beans be ok until they are dry on the vines with all of this cooler weather or should I harvest them and call it a year ? (I don't have enough ready to do a canning session, so I was just going to let them all dry on the vines)
    This is the first time for me growing shelling beans so I’m not sure if they will mold or dry in cooler temps.
    I, also, have Cannelini Beans that aren’t ready either !!!!
    Thank You So Much for your help !

    Hey, I was wondering if you had any videos on cooking and or canning the shellie beans by themselves without the green beans? My husband asked me about cooking the shellies alone like his grandmother did and I've never even heard of doing this. Any advice?

    I'm only used to pinto beans and green beans. What type bean does your beans fall into?

    • @MelissaKNorris
      @MelissaKNorris  4 роки тому +1

      They're similar to a white or navy bean when mature
