  • The GAA is a wonderful, beautiful creation of ours, but suffice to say if you're not Irish, you probably don't know what they are. You wouldn't know that all GAA players are amateur, and to play county makes you the pride of your parish, or that you'll have your father screaming after you to "run you fat f**k". Well let Tommy explain to you just what the GAA really is. It's not just "irish football".
Welcome to the OFFICIAL Tommy Tiernan UA-cam Channel (The Tommy Tiernan Show, Derry Girls, Crooked Man, Under The Influence, Stray Sod, Cracked, Bovinity and more). Here you can watch stand up clips, TV appearances and more EXCLUSIVE content.

GAA amateur status is simply a relic of its origin in British society of the late 1800s, all organised British sports were amateur to begin with. Football (soccer) and rugby (league) went professional early-ish on, other games such as athletics and rugby union remained amateur for decades. Trying to make a case for the GAA being special or different because it prefers to see its best players emigrate rather than pay them properly is...dubious.

How to be a gaa person.
1, always expect people to have no choice as the gaa wants and has had a monopoly.
    2. Always kick out at an opponent who has just scored against you.
    3. Fight as much as possible and punch your opponent at every opportunity.
    4. make sure your local priest is a member of your gaa club.
    5. Swear profusely.
    6. Swear allegiance to mick dunne the famous commentator not.
    7. Support rascism and discrimination.
    8. Support terrorists.
