I'm so happy to have found this video. As soon as my dishwasher finishes it's current load I'm going to fix my soap dispenser which hasn't opened since I changed the black front panel to stainless steel to match my new appliances. I couldn't figure out how the thing worked at the time and gave up. The soap dispenser door has been open 24/7 ever since. It's been 6 years!!
I've got a Whirlpool model DU927QWDQ1 which has a touch panel and the Dual Wax Motor Actuator. This model seems to have a clip attachment of some sort, holding the inner panel to the door. Located just below the control panel and to the left of the Actuator. Hidden by the Actuator from the right side and barely visible from the left side which required some pretty good torquing of the inner panel just to get a slight glimpse. Determining the clip type/style would be quite helpful.

John Young omg I did the same thing. I changed my panel to stainless steel in 2010 and ever since then my soap dispenser hasn't opened. I just found this video and will try to fix mine - that is after it finishes the load it's doing (with the soap dispenser open all the time). 6 years later! I'm so excited to fix it!!
Thanks Steve, I found your video helpful. Our dishwasher soap cup sometimes doesn't open during the cycle, and I think the soap was kind of gluing the lid shut. When I cleaned out the caked soap, it opened as shown in your video, when turning the dial. One important thing to note is that make sure to turn off the circuit breaker before attempting any repairs. Thanks!!
After buying the replacement parts, I discovered when installing them that the Draw Bar Spring had broken, which seems to have been the source of the problem. It would have saved time/$ to have checked this beforehand. I recommend combining the two videos discussing separate repairs that control the operation of the soap dispenser.
Discovered the top of the pump housing was missing a screw and the gasket had started to come out. The resulting gap squirted water at bottom of the door and caused it to leak.. this after wracking my brain trying to cover all the possibilities where the water was getting out along the door.. Found this to be helpful for aligning the catch mechanism when putting the inside door panel back on.. But still it wasn't easy and I had to look through the opening along the edge to engage the tiny teeth on the mechanism. Thanks for posting this..

Thanks. Your video helped me get the door off. Luckily, the latch was just gummed up with soap and I was able to clean it all off inside the door. Latch is back to normal. $0 to repair.
I have the exact same question!!! Detergent cover, spring, and latch all in place but the sliding parts and a rusted (in half) spring were completely loose in there. And I have no idea how to put them together!
Hi. Came across your video and was hoping you could help. Just moved into a new apartment. Appliances are supposed to somewhat new. However, I noticed the tube or wiring that goes around the bottom of the dishwasher is rusty-almost corroded. Do I clean that or is it something they need to replace? Haven't used it yet because I'm afraid it's not healthy. The maintenance guy for the complex just said to run a cycle with bleach in it and it should be ok. Your thoughts, please?

Hi again, Dish Washer. Thanks for getting that model number to me. Your model does not use the same mechanism as the model shown in the video. Your model has a fixed device called a wax motor that should engage the lever of the latch. Try installing the inner door panel again by inserting the top of the panel first, and then lowering it into position. Best of luck, and let me know how you go with your repair!
When reinstalling the inner panel I found that the screws on either side of the latch would not attach to their receiving holes. The latch mechanism seems to slipped deeper into the door panel but I could not manipulate if forward. I left them out and the dishwasher door still operates and no leaks have occurred yet. Also there two plastic clips that snap over the ends of the control panel securing it to the door assembly. The clips are very fragile and one broke while reinstalling the inner panel. Seems the perimeter panel screws are holding everything together well enough. Not sure.
I have a Kenmore with no dial just buttons. Can I test it for operation once I get it back together without running a whole normal wash cycle? Thanks Luke

Model number DU850DWGQ2. It seems as if the kit is completely dislocated. I opened up the lid and the spring is lose and the other parts are just scattered about. Do you have a picture diagram on how to reassemble the kit?
this is a very helpful video.... but my dishwasher is slightly different. It doesn't have the silverware thing in the door. At the bottom of the inner door part is a part called a Spatter Shield. I spent an hour trying to figure out how it fits back together and yours doesn't seem to have this part. My washer is DU890DWGQ1
The soap cup on my whirlpool similar to the one in the video would not open. When I took off the door cover I found an approximately 2-3 in. long spring laying loose. It had one end broken. The problem is all the parts were basically laying loose so I don't know where the spring attaches and how to put it all back together. Help please!
i have a GU940SCGQ2 Whirlpool Gold. the video is great but i don' t have a rotating dial,, it's all buttons/electronic. SO how do i move the cams to move the nylon bars?? How do i rotate the timer dial since there isn't a timer dial?

thats all good but i dont have a a control nob on my vicking, its all touch buttons, i have had the full kit to fix it, door an all but just the catch came off. and will not go back in to stay
I did everything in the video and thought I had it but when I rotate the dial the dispenser door won't pop open. I lowered the frame from the top first and it still won't open when the dial rotates. It feels pretty snug when I try and rotate the dial, however. Any suggestions?
all 8 screws removed and the panel comes off easily around the edges. it seems to be hung up on something in the middle. i've pushed, pulled and twisted but i'm afraid i'll break something else. i gave up and put it back together. thanks for trying to help.

I have a Kenmore mod el #66517669400. I cant seem to align the cam follower (sears pt.#3369529) with the top of the drawbar (sears pt.#8066017). I have the front panels off, so I can see how the timer activates everything to open the soap dispenser.
How do you test the soap door actuation on models that do not have a dial? Internal side of the door is the same as this video, but it's all touch buttons on the outer door on mine. It is a Whirlpool GU940SCGQ3.
Your model uses a wax motor to perform the detergent and rinse aid dispensers. During the wash cycle, a voltage signal is applied to the wax motor, which operates like a slow moving solenoid, to unlatch the detergent door as well as open the piston for the rinse aid. You could apply line voltage to the terminals on the wax motor to test the function. The action normally takes about a minute to activate the plunger.
I have the same problem with my Whirlpool. I ordered and replaced the part with your instructions. When I ran the first cycle, I pushed the "Start" button on the control panel and I heard the soap door immediately open. It hasn't opened automatically since. Any ideas?

looking at the door diagram on your website it looks like a latch or hook of some kind under the control panel could be the problem. i don't know how to reach it to get the inside panel off. Model # DU920QWDQ3
Hi Kathy, It looks like your model uses a wax motor to activate the detergent cup latch and the rinse aid dispenser, but the inner door panel should separate from the outer door after all of the 8 screws have been removed. Try using a putty knife around the edge to gently pry the panel away from the frame. There may be some adhesion caused by food spills that is preventing it from releasing. Hope this helps! I wish I would have seen this BEFORE I took all the parts on the inner door out to do this repair. Now I am staring at four parts that I can't put back together!! They are 8193646, 3369000,3368999. Can you help? Just a picture would be great..the diagram of parts isn't helping me! thanks
I think he problem with mine is that its the wrong lower basket. I just moved into this apartment and noticed the detergent door was not opening during the cycle however once the maintenance guy came to check it out he told me it was opening for him but now in retrospect I am realizing he removed the bottom tray when inspecting the dishwasher. So inconvenient and unnecessary.
Those screws fit into raised plastic studs on the back of the control panel. The studs may have stripped out or more likely broke away from the control panel. If all of the other inner door panel screws have been removed, the panel should lift off easily with just a little resistance from the detergent door actuator lever from the timer.
Sorry to hear you're having trouble; what exactly is obstructing the panel? Is there a point at which it is particularly stuck? Any other observable elements that might be getting in the way or causing the problem?
I'm an idiot! The door wouldn't open because I had turned the lower basket in backwards. Why? I don't know. Turned it around and now it opens. I think I'll go to my parent's house and have my dad dope-slap me. Still trying to align those parts, but I'm getting there.
It was actually an easy fix. I just unscrewed the front panel and clipped the two pieces back together. Someone apparently pulled instead of pushing on the release for the cover, causing the two parts to separate. Thanks anyway, though.

Repeat again. Start to repeat again and bump the door from the inside. Door panels pop out, control panel drops to floor and spring loaded door frame tries to take out my teeth. Degree of difficulty just when up 100x. Frustration level is maxed. Need 11 people to help hold everything in place just to reassemble the damned door. I think the video was good overall, just left out a warning to us clumsy folks.

The two top screws, one on each top corner, turn freely but do not disengage the underlying piece. All other 6 screws came out easily.
