Seeing how we're living in the time period that Blade Runner was set in... yeah. The Cold War is even back on. Sort of similar to how all things 1950s made a bit of a comeback during the 1980s.
@@GrandMerc89 The cold war never ended. NATO was made against the Soviets and the USA refused to disband the NATO and let Russia closer to the west. The USA always planned the time we living today. Why do you think they have 800 military bases all over the world.
That was one of those movies I watched with my dad when we were parked in front of the tube on a weekend back in the early 90s. It had to have been only a year or two after it came out. For a 10 or 11 year old kid it was jaw-dropping. I'd seen all the Robocops a few times, the Terminators, Cyborg, and of course Blade Runner. But this movie stuck with me. I've been trying to find this for about 20 years because I remembered the scene where Alex was running with his dog through the desert. Never knew its name and didn't have much to go on. Finally a random youtube comment led me to it. The second time watching I picked up on the subtleties that make this a really solid science fiction work. The cyborgs play fast and loose with naming conventions, the female-looking ones have masculine-sounding names and vice versa. Also the cast is a mixed bag of different races with ambiguous accents. Both of these elements give it an authentic feel when describing the future and how intelligent machines might perceive humanity. The stunts were really over the top, but that stop motion sequence for the final fight was awful. There's a lot that was right about this movie. Some of the characters do have a surprising amount of complexity. On its own it's pretty good, but with a bigger budget and more focus on the writing (mediocre mostly) it could have been very good. It was an ambitious project that bridged the sci-fi and hard-boiled detective genres. It had the right amount of noir flavor that is textbook cyberpunk. Glad I got to watch it again all these years later.
love these old 90's action/sci-fi flicks , really appreciate the use of practical effects, explosions and gun battles. I don't dislike CGI but find too much can make things sterile and lacking punch.
I think CGI sux huge balls unless used right, john wick is about it. Nemesis has been a favorite of mine since 12 years old, amazing action sequences that still hold up today with the fraction of the budget of something like Fast and the furious. Theses types of movies we're from a different era & it will never be duplicated as good again.
It was a great performance, especially because of the jitters and movements she threw in to the character. If you're into the Cyberpunk stuff, it is a totally believable performance as someone boosted to the hilt on enhanced reflexes. One of the genius things about this movie was how much the purposes of cyberware were inferred rather than explained in Trek-Style Technical Minutiae. Reflexes, armor, speed, and a cast with the Physicality to make it believable plus the acting to make you care.
It is now far in the 2023, and I just watched this for the 1st time. I can tell this movie still works perfectly in 2023 👌 Maybe the talking skeleton robot was a bit funny but creepy at the same time. I like the alternative ending where there's no plane fight and the cyborg survives and in the end the cyborgs say - "Do we kill him now ?" " Why not"
I first saw Nemesis on VHS in 2005 and I have to say it was a great futuristic action film. Oliver Gruner was awesome and was such a badass. The film had good choreography and the action sequences were thrilling. The film reminded me of The Terminator, Escape from New York, Metal Gear Solid, Robocop and Six Million Dollar Man. I was surprised to see Thomas Jane in it, in his one of his earliest acting roles and Deborah Shelton was really hot. I thought the scene when Alex and Jared say a final goodbye was sad and touching. I wish I had the film on DVD and added it to the great 1989 film Cyborg starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. It's not been released on DVD in New Zealand.
Snap. I don't think they showed the whole thing, but I definitely remembered the producer's line about the budget reading like his American Express Card number.
I still remember the dog that Olivier Grunner's character found as a puppy, he raises the dog and then in one scene he just left the dog to get killed by the bad guys. Like he raised the dog but he didn't give a shit, that scene was so really stupid.
@@killdeer It kind of matches the way he is so callous toward Jared when she tells him she loves him. Yet he buries the dog and sheds tears during the final farewell with Jared. Very ambiguous.
Does anyone else find it strange that they talk to the Producers, Stunt Coordinator, Special FX guys, and Cinematographer.........but yet they don't speak with the Director, Albert Pyun?
Albert Pyun was cut off the editing and post production of the movie by the exercise producers who wanted a more commercial version of the film which was at odds with Albert's much bleaker, original vision. The same happened to his other film, Cyborg.
@cold144 Dude i just saw this film ! It was Epic!! Some of the coolest action scenes and effects and acting too !this film is a must have at home! Its like ghost in the shell mixed with the movie Cyborg, and Blade Runner, a little hint of The Matrix!
Dude this movie is from 1992... Other than blade runner and T2, I think it influences all those movies. Underworld stole so many scenes from nemesis. All time great Flick
Indeed. that scene in Underworld was a blatant ripoff of the motel shootout sequence. Underworld ripped off other movies as well like Blade and The Matrix.
When you consider this action film was made in the early 90's, with a budget around 1 to 5 million, with much on location shooting... all the money is there on the screen. It has great action, lots of character actors from direct to video films of this era, beautiful and exotic women, beautiful and exotic locations, and a decent script. It borrows heavily from Terminator and Johnny Mnemonic. The one downside is that miniature sequence. It looks cheap, murky, and quickly put together .
great action movie, but Gene Warren's stop motion effects looked bad even back in the day. Should have dropped that whole sequence and done something totally different.
I have a feeling that this movie and many others will get new appreciation in 2020. Cyberpunk is back.

Nah, this movie pure schlock. There are far better examples out there of movies with cyborgs and stuff.

You can get the German version. It comes withvall the first 4 movies in multiple DVD.
The cyborg props and makeup were fantastic. CG can never give that uncanny, uncomfortable yet satisfying result. DA FUCKIN HUMANZ!
I still have this movie on VHS
Too bad the girl with H&k mp5 dies at the very beginning of the film. She is really badass.
Tim Thomerson,..Legend. Also the first time I ever encountered Thomas Jane in a movie. So young,..but weren't we all.
Dément ce film, tourné par réalisateur d exception, il présente les séquences de flingues les plus magnifiques

This movie was like Cyborg meets RoboCop meets the original Terminator. Fun action flick.
I remember seeing this on a show called Cinemattractions, which featured the latest movie releases and this was one of their "Coming Soon" films.

I'd say that considering it's a low budget movie in the early 90's. The effects are very, very, fucking awesome!
I can't believe they recorded that factory scene right outside my backyard, lol!!

The dog didn't follow after him, bit off the bitchy cyborg cop's hand and she unjustly shoots the dog.
Obviously the part of us that keeps us human was already replaced in him then.
