    The architecture is modernist and the condo itself is nice, but why decorate it like your grandmother's house with the La-Z-Boy chairs and outdated kitchen cabinets and countertops? I would have liked to have seen more stylish decorating in Marina Towers...

    It's beautiful, but be very careful (as a group) adding those heavy stone countertops and marble slabs and such to the bathrooms, adding to the illusion of being in a very solid structure, because in fact, the structure was not engineered in the 1960's for each unit to have the addition of many tons of building materials - at the time, those kinds of augmentations were not supposed. This is one of the factors that lead to the collapse of the Champlain Towers condos in Miami. it seems trivial, but in sum, these kinds of things can overload the structure, particularly with the natural degradation of the support materials involved over the course of decades. Modern owners truly have to grapple with the question, "was this a structure built to last centuries?", and no, it was not - not at the very least without continual competent care and re-engineering.

    • @johnpinion8033
      @johnpinion8033 2 роки тому +4

      @@sborn1571 You're right: mine is very much (as I stated) a reaction to the Champlain Towers collapse. And I stand by my assertion (and suggestion) that competent, periodic engineering re-analysis be done as the structure ages. Miami was probably a fluke, but it's true that anything built post-1950 would probably warrant that kind of re-evaluation as opposed to assuming a one-and-done design destined to stand for the ages. (I would certainly hope your luck would be better than that of the Miami condo owners.)

      The issue with Champlain was 1.) ignoring critical maintenance issues for years 2.) adding a THIRTEENTH floor when it was not designed for that 3. Constant flooding due to location 4. the ground where built and when built was not ideal.

I live in Australia, if this were an appartment in a major city here such as Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney or Perth this would cost 1,000,000 - 2,500,000 AUD (700,000 - 1,750,000 USD).
