Here’s an educational screen printing video about using a question I get asked almost every week. I have probably answered this in other videos before but I figured it was time to make a short video that would be easy for people to access and find by topic. This may sound like a no brainer but it’s actually a very valid query. Generally speaking we can see much different shelf lives of the same products under different environments. So while this video gives you a general idea. There are always exceptions and occurrences that will contradict. But if you’re just starting out as a beginner in screenprinting tee shirts then this video will give you a much better idea of the shelf life of emulsions in the bucket and on the screen. You’ll see that the answer is logical and simple. So take a few short minutes and watch this tutorial screen printing video that will teach you how to screen print T-Shirts. Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Love your videos. Question for you though. You may have answered this somewhere but with the plethora of your videos, I havent found it yet. So, how do I know what emulsion to use? I bought a beginner set of Speedball emulsion and remover in a box. I anticipate doing more screen printing (practicing more like it haha). I see there are different colors of emulsion. What are the differences and which does what better? Thanks and keep rolling.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy my video work. The color of the emulsion has nothing to do with it really. That's just a dye that manufacturers use for their own brands. I have a video about dual cure versus photopolymer emulsions. You probably want to watch that one. You will need an emulsion resistant to water based inks if you are using the Speedball water based inks. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
I don't have anything like a storage unit but I use a black yard bag and in a box in the garage I've used them after 6 months and no problems
Anything that can keep them in the dark will work so there's nothing wrong with that. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
With regard to how long emulsion lasts in the bucket, I recently used some Ulano QTX photopolymer emulsion that was at least 6 years old. I last used it in late 2016 and I'd already had it for at least a year at that point, and I originally got it from someone else who had tried it once and didn't like it, so who knows how long he had it before I got it, and who knows how long the retailer had it before him? It had dried out so much that it was too thick to pour. I thoroughly mixed some water into it and it coated the screen, burned, washed out, and printed just as good as when it was new.
Yes, photopolymer emulsions can last a very long time in the bucket and on the screen. The Saati Textile PC Blue I sell can last for years in the bucket. Sometimes when I get it from the factory, it's already a year or 2 old.

Hi, I'm a photographer and was wondering if a Screen could be exposed with a photographic enlarger (said you use a uv bulb in said enlarger) or does it have to always be contact exposed?
Actually projection exposures are done with certain graphic industrial applications. If your enlarger has enough UV and intensity to project and expose fast enough then it should work. But you still need to create screen printing style art since emulsion is either there or not. It's not like photographic paper unfortunately. I don't use an enlarger, rather we use "exposure units" to make screens. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
When it comes to ScreenPrinting posters, does the ink on the poster have to be cured? If so, then how do I cure the ink with a (flash dryer)?
You should use an air dry poster ink for paper. So there would be no need for heat setting or curing. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Could any red lights be used with emulsions like Christmas / party light bulbs and bike LED lights? Doesn't have to be as critical as with a photographic safe light for darkrooms?
Actually it's the same exact principle as safe lights for B&W darkrooms. B&W photo papers are blind to red light just like screen printing emulsion is. Emulsion is also blind to yellow light however. Emulsions in fact are only responsive to UV light. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
The emulsion I buy says it expires after 4 months from opening, so wouldnt it expire on a screen in that time as well?
Cheers!
It very well may, yes. But if it's a dual cure you have at least a month I would think. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
After the emultion drys can i bring it out in the light? Untill im ready to put on my positive? Or do i gotta keep it in the dark till its ready to burn?
It should be kept in the dark until washout. But you can work in yellow or red light. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
@@CatspitProductions okay..whats the normal exposure time for a basic screen? Im doin 10 mins..an the small letters are not coming off smooth
@@FIGHT101TV Unfortunately, there is no set standard time. Check out my video about "what's the exposure time?" Search that in my video uploads tab from my channel page and that video should help you out.

To the contrary actually ;) I love big Cats but they should be free whenever possible. The ones in captivity should not be on display for our petty enjoyment. Big Cats are the only predator known to humans that will hunt and kill humans for food. The most deadly predator on the planet really. They should be respected. Thanks for watching!
