Yes it felt very "Have you heard the story of Darth Plagueis The Wise" kinda thing. But I though he was good, I realized he wasn't the good guy when they were having the chess match.
Yeah my only question is who’s really in charge then is it the mind flayer or vecna? I know Dustin alluded to vecna being like a 5 star general for the mind flayer, but does that mean he was recruited when he came into the upside down or did vecna enlist the mind flayer. Excited to see where it goes for sure.

I feel like Nancy being in danger is a red herring. Either Steve or Jonathan will bite the dust, recreating the final stand against Vecna on the D&D match: One will die trying to kill him, followed by the other landing the final blow.
I loved that the scene where the orderly shows El the chip in his neck was in a boiler room. It was a perfect double reveal because the power suppressing chip confirmed he was one while the boiler room was a huge hint he was Vecna because of the nightmare on elm street link. Phenomenal writing.

i binged all the episodes, it was worth it. i cried soo much on the dear billy episode. i noticed they didn’t mentioned the mind flayer that much. the mind flayer resembles a giant spider, which 001 has an obsession with, hopefully the last two episodes will answer all the questions.

The interesting thing that occured to me with the Joyce/Hopper scenario is how Hopper was lamenting saying he was cursed, then telling the guard that it would take a mitacle for them to survice. But then when the door opened and he saw Joyce, I think he realized that Joyce is his miracle(metaphorically, but in this case literally). And I think he realized at that moment that maybe he isn't cursed after all
At the beginning, I joked and said, what if vecna is 001 or something and then when we saw the guard first talk about 001, I knew the guard was actually 001. But I did not expect vecna, the guard and also creels son to all be 001 like that was such a good reveal

The introductions to new characters are so smooth and well done. I'm so afraid of who's going to be killed off since the cast is so big now. I'm thinking maybe Lucas, Max, or Steve and I love each one so it's going to hurt.
Really hope not steve, he is such a fan fav...and I think they can do a better job with his storyline rather than kill him off, it would be wasted potential...I am neutral about his relationship with nancy, but I was really hoping that he would find someone new..but robin and eddie rooting for him was fun to watch!!
Ep. 4 was one of the most amazing episodes I've ever seen on this show. Max's speech, the guilt she holds, and her escape from Vecna literally had me on the edge of my seat. And I loved the Vecna twist at the end. He's my fave villain so I'm excited for vol. 2. You also bring up good points about Steve. He's not really going anywhere with life and he is injured. We'll see what happens
Eleven actually had even stronger powers than Vecna. Her powers were weaker than his when she uses his technique of bad memories, but her powers were stronger when she used good memories. I also think Wills painting is of his Hawkins friends.

I assume that towards the end, Vecna will never be able to beat el since he won’t have any love or happy memories, and el will think of like all of the moments in the past blah blah
The end of episode 4 to me was probably one of the best scenes in the series. The sequence when max breaks free from vecna. Soooo good. Cannot wait for the 2nd part.
I've just finished volume 1. Honestly, I do regret watching it all in a day - but I have rewatched episodes 4 through 7 again. Let me just say the writing in this show is TOP TIER. I have cried over and over thinking of the ending of episode 4, but also the story twists in episode 7 was PHENOMENONAL!!! They need to get the duffers on bigger projects as you've said before. IT'S SO GOOD!
The California group going to Suzy house was a bit long. I get why they went there, for Suzy to crack a code but after they succeeded, the story stop there for us audience. We didn’t see that group again. It makes it feel like a waste. I thought the El storyline was a bit repetitive but like you said, a wonderful satisfying reveal.

I have to say, my favorite sequence of the entire season and probably the show is Max’s escape from Vecna. That was genuinely the most emotionally intense scene with the stakes as high as ever, but also, a beautiful and heartbreaking allegory of what depression can feel like. And how the moment she realizes that her friends are there for her, and that she should trust and rely on them, is when she manages to find the strength to escape. And the use of Kate Bush’s Running Up The Hill as her savior song is just so beautiful i was crying. I mean the lyrics of that song fit so well with what Max has been through. And then her final line is “I’m still here.” Truly chef’s kiss. One of the best sequences ever on TV me thinks. And Sadie Sink should be considered for an Emmy for that performance.
Sadie Sink really killed it this series! especially with episode 4!! Max & Steve are my fav characters, so i hope nothing happens to either of them, but it would make sense for them to kill Steve, as he gets close to Nancy again, i agree i don't see them getting together again, so him dying whilst saving her would be a perfect way for him to redeem their relationship. Also Vecta saying "Nancy" in the upside down really gave me Nightmare on Elm Street vibes!!! loved it!!
I thought the scene in episode 7 where they were climbing through the portal and Steve (my favourite character) was last in the line to go through got me good! After thinking he might potentially have died of his wounds at end of 6/start of 7, I was like, “Don’t do this to me again!” But then, when NANCY fell through the portal and into VECNA’s hands, I was like, “Wait, what? No. You can’t kill Nancy. She and Steve are my day-ones. You can’t. Sh- she’s untouchable… Nancy, no. Not Nancy. NANCYYYYY!!!” And I cannot believe we will have to wait until July 1st to find out if she's okay. Steve best know her favourite bloody song because I don't know what I'm going to do without her. She was fucking FANTASTIC this season 🙌
i love the little clues throughout regaridng 001 even in the first episode when Papa finds El in the rainbow room! the wall behind little El is craked right where the portal opens when she sends him to the upside down. and the same type of fissure appears in Eddie's trailer when he tells the government lady he thought the black stuff on the ceiling was a leak!
I agree with the romance aspect. They drag this story down by a lot. The romance does make the characters worse. Steve is so much better as an independent character and as a "babysitter". His relationship with Dustin is so much better than his and Nancy's. Everytime Nancy and Steve are together, I'm just bored. And even his chemistry with Robin is so much better.
I can agree with all that. Steven and Nancy’s relationship thing is just dull and adds nothing for me. I don’t care for the ships of the characters anyway, it all bores me and does nothing.
I think cause they make the lovey dovey couples all sickly sweet with eachother. Wheras when they're just friends they have fun snarky back and forths with eachother, and no couples problems.

I never expected this show to become THAT good, not after seasln 2 and 3 which felt like "More of the same". The end-twist was fantastic. Also, as a big Freddy Krueger fan I am pleased by the fact that big parts of this is a loveletter to "A Nightmare On Elm Street". Roberg Englunds Cameo made total sense.
This was incredible. I actually couldn't believe how incredibly good this is. I'm shocked. I saw the reveal kinda coming. But like so many say, I didn't figure out it was the son. And I first just thought he was a vessel for Vecna, not that he was it. It's soo great!!! Hope they don't kill Nancy.
i feel like nancy getting with steve takes away a bit from nancy's character and kinda makes jonathan useless. other than that i love all three of these characters.

I enjoyed majority of every aspect of the season. The one thing I absolutely hated was reviving the DEAD love triangle between Jancy and Steve. Like I thought we were done with that crap in Season One. I understand Steve has changed but him and Nancy are just not compatible and that's shown since Day 1. Jonathan is gonna return, we all know that and then what? It's like it never happened. I loved every aspect of S4 but I did not like how they treated Nancy's character once again having it be about a man. They could have had the great thing going with her and Robin without needing to insert Steve in it. It was just dumb.
I'm usually pretty good about figuring out the twist before the big reveal. I figured the guy talking to 11 was 01, and I felt like he was connected somehow to Vecna, but when it was revealed he was the Kreel boy and Vecna I was surprised. Also it seems like the Upside-down has probably always existed, but it didn't take the form of Hawkins until 11 blasted a hole between them.
Who thinks Joseph Quinn who plays Eddie Munson gives of total Robert Downey Jr vibes. His acting and mannerisms. He even looks like him? It immediately came to my mind. And a Brit too. 🇬🇧Well done👏👏 Btw like most people this weekend doing double duty with OWK and Stranger Things (plus in the UK Flight Attendant 2 dropped). I love it.
By the end of episode 1, I was on the fence, but by the end of episode 7, this is now my favorite season. It has an epic quality and was fantastic. The Joyce and Murray stuff just may have been my favorite thread, and when she reunited with Hopper, I melted a bit lol.
One thing I think would be really cool is if Steve in the Next Season Joins the Police force and maybe has to team up with Hopper, or gave him powers like Will had in the first 2 seasons . Repercussions of the bite
The California group is definitely thrown to the side in the first half. I really hope in part two it becomes more explicit on Will’s feelings towards Mike. The California group not appearing in episodes 6 and 7 at all was a bit surprising consisting the length of the episodes.
Well, "in the first half" implies a consistent issue, which I don't think it was. That we uniquely didn't check in with them in ep 7, however, doesn't sit well with me at all, though, yes.
The California group is going to Nina/Nevada. They'll probably arrive there just before or at the same time than the general who is after El. They are gonna save her and take her to Hawkins to face Vecna
Everything about the Vecna reveal blew my mind. Like I had suspicions about 001, but everything else was completely unexpected. The way the reveal was done by intersecting two separate storylines was so effective. I am so glad I managed to avoid spoilers on that because it was just incredible.
The writing is really top notch... the show unfolds so well, so many characters doing different quests that all end up at the same point. Props to the Duffer Bros, what they have done is really hard if you don't write.
I clocked that the orderly was 1 from his first convo with 11. I suspected the son had some role to play with all of this because he didn't die and survivors always play a role in these things. I didn't see 1 being the son coming AT ALL. It's one of those things that you really couldn't have guessed, but it makes so much sense. Really love how everyone's story came together.
They did say he died in the coma a week later but it was just a red herring since his death would’ve been faked so he could be taken in to be researched
Ok but seriously, we know Vecna can’t lose in July, because he is the big bad, and we still have to get through Season 5. I think volume 2 is going to be like infinity war, we are going to have a major character death and then Vecna wins for the time being
I agree with you about the new characters like argyle and Eddie as they are hilarious and their way to interact with OG characters. Love Murrays' character development in a funny way here like he learned karate in a hilarious way and learned some idiotic charisma from yuri (e. G. Bear jokes)
I agree there definitely needs to be some deaths this season or the next. My top 3 to be killed off would be: 1) Mike - I don't really like his character tbh, 2) Steve - I agree with you I think he's played out as a character, plus the Duffer Brothers did say from Season 1 that Steve wasn't intended to have an arc, 3) Jonathan - He's very protective over Will and ones he loves so a sacrifice scene would do his character justice imo

I think Mike's death is well positioned for a season 4 finale. His whole drawing storyline from the first few episodes is leading to something big, imo.
I thought he was going to die either by El or from helping El . Once he showed that he had powers I knew he was going to become evil but I had NO IDEA that he was connected to vecna or the boy . I was so shocked
I agree with the whole Steve-Nancy romance this season was forced. I think Nancy and Jonathon was more pure. The whole Mury scene and their chemistry was just great.
Speak for yourself. Jonathan was always creepy. I never understood the audience fascination with him. Steve is the guy I would usually root against but I think he is a stand up guy and frankly deserves better than Nancy

What a wild ride! Easily one of the best finales in television/streaming history, and even though a lot is happening all at once, they really deliver on the payoffs and make it make sense. Incredible.
Why I felt like the wonky de-aging of Eleven wasn't really an issue, was bearing in mind that this is representative of her memory of herself at the time - which can be forgiven as not being 100% perfect (and no, the super grainy VHS footage would not help her much with facial detail!)
I was so happy eleven broke that girls nose she deserved it I was rooting for El to to break it again and again so every time that bully looked in the mirror she’ll be reminded to not bully again
Dear Billy made me cry godamn it that was so amazing also i love the reveal that FINALLY we get to see 001 and he turns to be Vecna which I honestly couldnt ask for more
I knew something was up with the son when they said something about how he wasn’t actually dead, but in a coma… I was like “oh so he lived?” and the vibes were off with the orderly but then it all tied together and made so much sense.

So far this season feels so much like the first season....It brings back the Horror and Mystery that was lacking in season 3. My only nitpicks were the Alaska scenes dragged on, and that they didnt have the BALLS to kill off Maxine...The main cast has immunity...the only character I think they might kill off in part 2 is Eddy
I’m just really confused as to how that guy got powers. The children all got their powers via an MK ULTRA style series of experiments on their parents, but he just HAD powers and got worked on later?
I've grown up with this cast, and in prior seasons I used to think I would like to be a part of the gang fighting monsters, now with Vecna, maybe not so much
Shout out to the "Eleven didn't kill them" - I like that she sort of did kill them because she set 001 free. So it does make sense that she is filled with huge guilt over it, and traumatised.
Dustin is the mvp of this season imo so far. Literally organizing & solving everything lol. Mike as a character of interest to me has regressed each season.

I love how this season has all the required settings for a horror movie: a mental institution, a graveyard, and a creepy, old, abandoned house. That Alaska Airlines shot really took me back to my childhood flying Alaska when the planes had that design. They would have had to change planes a couple times so that was a little unrealistic, but otherwise I liked it.
I did not see the reveal coming, and when it did, it was perfect. Like it hit all the points I had questions about. Very well done. Writers, directors, and even producers shoudl be taking notes.
I guessed that he was 001 the moment he said he knew about him, and within an episode, assumed he was involved with Vecna, but about five seconds before that last reveal, it clicked and I was floored. That twist was beautifully pulled off, because in hindsight, the answer is literally right there.
Jamie Campbell Bower’s 001 and Vecna has been so thrilling and awesome ❤️🙌🏻 The soundtrack score in their scenes has been so cool as well. Enjoying this season so much 🎉
I accept the wonky visual effects on the younger Eleven in the flashbacks, because the setting of reliving these events is like a dream sequence. Remember, we’re not actually seeing what happened as if it were a present-tense narrative, but instead viewing it through the prism of memory.
As for Will, this is a teenage thing. I did 100% the same thing as a teenager, falling for my best friend. You don’t think about it rationally. It’s not just about “what if”, you know for fact it won’t work out, but you can’t help feelings you’re not familiar with, and for someone who doesn’t deserve them.
Touching on Will. My theory is that he is going to legit die in the final part. A lot of themes are repeating from season one and will’s death would be the ultimate repeat. Kinda like he was always supposed to die which is just so sad. I feel we see foreshadowing in the form of Max’s letters to her loved ones, but she didn’t die, yet here there’s Will’s “letter” (his painting) for Mike.
I actually really like the romance aspects! They didn't spend much time on them either it was just like a few sparks sprinkled throughout! It was cute! Especially Steve and Nancy!
I just finished the 7 eps and HOLY FUCK! That ending changes everything. Edit: Yeah the stop at Suzie’s was the worst part of Volume 1. It just wasn’t needed or at least not that long cause it did drag. Edit 2: The writing and directing have always been amazing since season 1, The Duffer Brothers are two of the best in the Business and yes someone should scoop them up to do a movie. Edit 3: I think at the very least we lose Steve (Which will make me cry A LOT cause I love Steve)
I uh…I binged it since 2am this morning, every episode 😅 I really enjoyed it, didn’t love the first 2 or so episodes I thought they were cringe & try hard. Once it got its groove and the plot & central mystery kicked off it got really fun and addictive

I'm starting to think Eleven is the ultimate boss here. In someways I think part of herself will have to die, similarly to Harry Potter, in order to destroy the upside down in S5.

Great review, Grace! I guess I’m the only person who likes the Nancy/Steve development. I don’t think them getting back together would be regressive at all. They’ve both matured. They’re both able to handle the traumas of the past a little better without linking it to each other. On top of that, it kind of feels like Nancy/Jonathan have become stagnant, which was what Nancy was afraid of back in season 1 when talking about her parents. But if they don’t get together, I wouldn’t be upset either. Nancy clearly doesn’t need a boyfriend to be badass.

Was pretty surprised that we got such a good season, loved the Max sequence i really thought she might die there, the part of the cops shooting was good and fast, the whole idea of how the gates open and the reveal of the link of 001 with the curse really well written, the only things i didnt like as much was the friend of joyce was a bit too over the top, and then maybe the secuence when they went to see Dustin gf that was like soo silly ... i guess they needed to counter tone with all the murdering but its fine, GREAT season so far.
First I figured out Vecna was a test subject for the simple fact that he an Eleven have the EXACT same powers. Then I knew he was the boy because of how he "died" and they made mention of his "sensitivity". I found out the guard was Vecna the latest actually. Writing was 🔥🔥🔥
Tbh. As an lgbt person, I think Will’s portrayal is INCREDIBLY realistic. Although I agree it is problematic, being lgbt doesn’t always have to be reflected positively! These are some harsh realities and I can empathize/relate to Will’s character (even cringe at times). I think Will’s portrayal reflects a lot of what young lgbt members go through with having those emerging hormones and struggling to direct them since our options are more limited. I’m excited yet dreading Will’s eventual coming out, but I’m interested to see how that will affect the gang going forward.
I also agree about Will's feelings being realistic, Pria! One of my gay friends went through that. He had a platonic crush for his best friend who is a straight guy, and it was hard for him to try and not fall in love with someone so close to him but who didn't share the same sexual orientation. AND watch him be with other people. On a side note, I think Will can do better thank Mike. LOL And maybe that painting of his has something to do with his coming out?
Me too! I'm gay and I actually feel SO BAD for Will. He is literally alone even though he is surrounded by his friends - that is so familiar to me. No one understands him and they even get frustrated with him. He doesn't really have a decent friend/family member he can talk to. I went through the same thing. It's so painful. Whoever wrote his storyline did their research. It's really accurate.

I was literally on the edge of my seat with Max's scene. It was unsettling. I love it!
The interesting thing that occured to me with the Joyce/Hopper scenario is how Hopper was lamenting saying he was cursed, then telling the guard that it would take a mitacle for them to survice. But then when the door opened and he saw Joyce, I think he realized that Joyce is his miracle(metaphorically, but in this case literally). And I think he realized at that moment that maybe he isn't cursed after all

At the beginning, I joked and said, what if vecna is 001 or something and then when we saw the guard first talk about 001, I knew the guard was actually 001. But I did not expect vecna, the guard and also creels son to all be 001 like that was such a good reveal
The "what have you done" refers to 11 releasing/unleashing 001. Removing the thing from his neck allowed him to go on his rampage.
That's what I understood as well. Brenner knew that 001 did the massacre, not Eleven.
I think he definitely figured out that was the case, but at first when he said that he may have actually thought it was El.
Stranger things is the only show that every time they added new characters, i love them Immediately. I really hope eddie stays but im so scared that steve is going to die next season, he’s my favorite.

The introductions to new characters are so smooth and well done. I'm so afraid of who's going to be killed off since the cast is so big now. I'm thinking maybe Lucas, Max, or Steve and I love each one so it's going to hurt.
Really hope not steve, he is such a fan fav...and I think they can do a better job with his storyline rather than kill him off, it would be wasted potential...I am neutral about his relationship with nancy, but I was really hoping that he would find someone new..but robin and eddie rooting for him was fun to watch!!

Ep. 4 was one of the most amazing episodes I've ever seen on this show. Max's speech, the guilt she holds, and her escape from Vecna literally had me on the edge of my seat. And I loved the Vecna twist at the end. He's my fave villain so I'm excited for vol. 2. You also bring up good points about Steve. He's not really going anywhere with life and he is injured. We'll see what happens

Eleven actually had even stronger powers than Vecna. Her powers were weaker than his when she uses his technique of bad memories, but her powers were stronger when she used good memories.

I assume that towards the end, Vecna will never be able to beat el since he won’t have any love or happy memories, and el will think of like all of the moments in the past blah blah

I've just finished volume 1. Honestly, I do regret watching it all in a day - but I have rewatched episodes 4 through 7 again. Let me just say the writing in this show is TOP TIER. I have cried over and over thinking of the ending of episode 4, but also the story twists in episode 7 was PHENOMENONAL!!! They need to get the duffers on bigger projects as you've said before. IT'S SO GOOD!

The California group going to Suzy house was a bit long. I get why they went there, for Suzy to crack a code but after they succeeded, the story stop there for us audience. We didn’t see that group again. It makes it feel like a waste.
I thought the El storyline was a bit repetitive but like you said, a wonderful satisfying reveal.
I’m pretty sure their storyline will continue in volume 2 and they will somehow get El out of that place or something like that

I have to say, my favorite sequence of the entire season and probably the show is Max’s escape from Vecna. That was genuinely the most emotionally intense scene with the stakes as high as ever, but also, a beautiful and heartbreaking allegory of what depression can feel like. And how the moment she realizes that her friends are there for her, and that she should trust and rely on them, is when she manages to find the strength to escape. And the use of Kate Bush’s Running Up The Hill as her savior song is just so beautiful i was crying. I mean the lyrics of that song fit so well with what Max has been through. And then her final line is “I’m still here.” Truly chef’s kiss. One of the best sequences ever on TV me thinks. And Sadie Sink should be considered for an Emmy for that performance.
Sadie Sink really killed it this series! especially with episode 4!! Max & Steve are my fav characters, so i hope nothing happens to either of them, but it would make sense for them to kill Steve, as he gets close to Nancy again, i agree i don't see them getting together again, so him dying whilst saving her would be a perfect way for him to redeem their relationship. Also Vecta saying "Nancy" in the upside down really gave me Nightmare on Elm Street vibes!!! loved it!!

I thought the scene in episode 7 where they were climbing through the portal and Steve (my favourite character) was last in the line to go through got me good!
After thinking he might potentially have died of his wounds at end of 6/start of 7, I was like, “Don’t do this to me again!”
But then, when NANCY fell through the portal and into VECNA’s hands, I was like, “Wait, what? No. You can’t kill Nancy. She and Steve are my day-ones. You can’t. Sh- she’s untouchable… Nancy, no. Not Nancy. NANCYYYYY!!!”
And I cannot believe we will have to wait until July 1st to find out if she's okay. Steve best know her favourite bloody song because I don't know what I'm going to do without her. She was fucking FANTASTIC this season 🙌

i love the little clues throughout regaridng 001 even in the first episode when Papa finds El in the rainbow room! the wall behind little El is craked right where the portal opens when she sends him to the upside down. and the same type of fissure appears in Eddie's trailer when he tells the government lady he thought the black stuff on the ceiling was a leak!
I agree with the romance aspect. They drag this story down by a lot. The romance does make the characters worse. Steve is so much better as an independent character and as a "babysitter". His relationship with Dustin is so much better than his and Nancy's. Everytime Nancy and Steve are together, I'm just bored. And even his chemistry with Robin is so much better.

I can agree with all that. Steven and Nancy’s relationship thing is just dull and adds nothing for me. I don’t care for the ships of the characters anyway, it all bores me and does nothing.
I think cause they make the lovey dovey couples all sickly sweet with eachother. Wheras when they're just friends they have fun snarky back and forths with eachother, and no couples problems.

I never expected this show to become THAT good, not after seasln 2 and 3 which felt like "More of the same".
The end-twist was fantastic.
Also, as a big Freddy Krueger fan I am pleased by the fact that big parts of this is a loveletter to "A Nightmare On Elm Street". Roberg Englunds Cameo made total sense.
This was incredible. I actually couldn't believe how incredibly good this is. I'm shocked. I saw the reveal kinda coming. But like so many say, I didn't figure out it was the son. And I first just thought he was a vessel for Vecna, not that he was it. It's soo great!!!

i feel like nancy getting with steve takes away a bit from nancy's character and kinda makes jonathan useless. other than that i love all three of these characters.

I enjoyed majority of every aspect of the season. The one thing I absolutely hated was reviving the DEAD love triangle between Jancy and Steve. Like I thought we were done with that crap in Season One. I understand Steve has changed but him and Nancy are just not compatible and that's shown since Day 1. Jonathan is gonna return, we all know that and then what? It's like it never happened.
I loved every aspect of S4 but I did not like how they treated Nancy's character once again having it be about a man. They could have had the great thing going with her and Robin without needing to insert Steve in it. It was just dumb.
I'm usually pretty good about figuring out the twist before the big reveal. I figured the guy talking to 11 was 01, and I felt like he was connected somehow to Vecna, but when it was revealed he was the Kreel boy and Vecna I was surprised. Also it seems like the Upside-down has probably always existed, but it didn't take the form of Hawkins until 11 blasted a hole between them.
I felt major Nightmare on Elm Street vibes from this season, as well as other 80's horror movie classics and I love it.

The hanging of the sheet to go from the bedroom to the upside down actually reminded me of Poltergeist.
By the end of episode 1, I was on the fence, but by the end of episode 7, this is now my favorite season. It has an epic quality and was fantastic. The Joyce and Murray stuff just may have been my favorite thread, and when she reunited with Hopper, I melted a bit lol.
Best Stranger Things cold opening is 4x7 hands down. Season 4 is so much darker.
My jaw was literally hung open for about 5 mins after I finished the last episode 😭
One thing I think would be really cool is if Steve in the Next Season Joins the Police force and maybe has to team up with Hopper, or gave him powers like Will had in the first 2 seasons . Repercussions of the bite
The California group is definitely thrown to the side in the first half. I really hope in part two it becomes more explicit on Will’s feelings towards Mike. The California group not appearing in episodes 6 and 7 at all was a bit surprising consisting the length of the episodes.
Well, "in the first half" implies a consistent issue, which I don't think it was. That we uniquely didn't check in with them in ep 7, however, doesn't sit well with me at all, though, yes.
The California group is going to Nina/Nevada. They'll probably arrive there just before or at the same time than the general who is after El. They are gonna save her and take her to Hawkins to face Vecna
Everything about the Vecna reveal blew my mind.
Like I had suspicions about 001, but everything else was completely unexpected.
The way the reveal was done by intersecting two separate storylines was so effective.
I am so glad I managed to avoid spoilers on that because it was just incredible.
The writing is really top notch... the show unfolds so well, so many characters doing different quests that all end up at the same point. Props to the Duffer Bros, what they have done is really hard if you don't write.
I clocked that the orderly was 1 from his first convo with 11. I suspected the son had some role to play with all of this because he didn't die and survivors always play a role in these things. I didn't see 1 being the son coming AT ALL. It's one of those things that you really couldn't have guessed, but it makes so much sense. Really love how everyone's story came together.
They did say he died in the coma a week later but it was just a red herring since his death would’ve been faked so he could be taken in to be researched

I agree there definitely needs to be some deaths this season or the next. My top 3 to be killed off would be: 1) Mike - I don't really like his character tbh, 2) Steve - I agree with you I think he's played out as a character, plus the Duffer Brothers did say from Season 1 that Steve wasn't intended to have an arc, 3) Jonathan - He's very protective over Will and ones he loves so a sacrifice scene would do his character justice imo

I think Mike's death is well positioned for a season 4 finale. His whole drawing storyline from the first few episodes is leading to something big, imo.
I thought he was going to die either by El or from helping El . Once he showed that he had powers I knew he was going to become evil but I had NO IDEA that he was connected to vecna or the boy . I was so shocked

I agree with the whole Steve-Nancy romance this season was forced. I think Nancy and Jonathon was more pure. The whole Mury scene and their chemistry was just great.
Speak for yourself. Jonathan was always creepy. I never understood the audience fascination with him. Steve is the guy I would usually root against but I think he is a stand up guy and frankly deserves better than Nancy

I have said it before, and I will say it again Jamie Campbell Bower was FANTASTIC! Even though I have my issues with the Season, the villain part and the finale was fantastic!
What a wild ride! Easily one of the best finales in television/streaming history, and even though a lot is happening all at once, they really deliver on the payoffs and make it make sense. Incredible.
Why I felt like the wonky de-aging of Eleven wasn't really an issue, was bearing in mind that this is representative of her memory of herself at the time - which can be forgiven as not being 100% perfect (and no, the super grainy VHS footage would not help her much with facial detail!)

So far this season feels so much like the first season....It brings back the Horror and Mystery that was lacking in season 3. My only nitpicks were the Alaska scenes dragged on, and that they didnt have the BALLS to kill off Maxine...The main cast has immunity...the only character I think they might kill off in part 2 is Eddy

I've grown up with this cast, and in prior seasons I used to think I would like to be a part of the gang fighting monsters, now with Vecna, maybe not so much
Max’s scene may have been the best in the series. So intense and beautiful.
Shout out to the "Eleven didn't kill them" - I like that she sort of did kill them because she set 001 free. So it does make sense that she is filled with huge guilt over it, and traumatised.
Dustin is the mvp of this season imo so far. Literally organizing & solving everything lol. Mike as a character of interest to me has regressed each season.

I love how this season has all the required settings for a horror movie: a mental institution, a graveyard, and a creepy, old, abandoned house.
That Alaska Airlines shot really took me back to my childhood flying Alaska when the planes had that design. They would have had to change planes a couple times so that was a little unrealistic, but otherwise I liked it.
I did not see the reveal coming, and when it did, it was perfect. Like it hit all the points I had questions about. Very well done. Writers, directors, and even producers shoudl be taking notes.
I guessed that he was 001 the moment he said he knew about him, and within an episode, assumed he was involved with Vecna, but about five seconds before that last reveal, it clicked and I was floored. That twist was beautifully pulled off, because in hindsight, the answer is literally right there.

Jamie Campbell Bower’s 001 and Vecna has been so thrilling and awesome ❤️🙌🏻 The soundtrack score in their scenes has been so cool as well. Enjoying this season so much 🎉
I accept the wonky visual effects on the younger Eleven in the flashbacks, because the setting of reliving these events is like a dream sequence. Remember, we’re not actually seeing what happened as if it were a present-tense narrative, but instead viewing it through the prism of memory.
The length of each episode was fantastic 👌 no complaints

I noticed early on that the orderly looked like an older Creel’s son, but I didn’t put the pieces together until moments before the reveal!
As for Will, this is a teenage thing. I did 100% the same thing as a teenager, falling for my best friend. You don’t think about it rationally. It’s not just about “what if”, you know for fact it won’t work out, but you can’t help feelings you’re not familiar with, and for someone who doesn’t deserve them.
The duffer bros and all the creators did an amazing job on this season. To do a season 4 and nail it is just brilliant level film making.
Touching on Will. My theory is that he is going to legit die in the final part. A lot of themes are repeating from season one and will’s death would be the ultimate repeat. Kinda like he was always supposed to die which is just so sad. I feel we see foreshadowing in the form of Max’s letters to her loved ones, but she didn’t die, yet here there’s Will’s “letter” (his painting) for Mike.
I actually really like the romance aspects! They didn't spend much time on them either it was just like a few sparks sprinkled throughout! It was cute!

I just finished the 7 eps and HOLY FUCK! That ending changes everything. Edit: Yeah the stop at Suzie’s was the worst part of Volume 1. It just wasn’t needed or at least not that long cause it did drag. Edit 2: The writing and directing have always been amazing since season 1, The Duffer Brothers are two of the best in the Business and yes someone should scoop them up to do a movie. Edit 3: I think at the very least we lose Steve (Which will make me cry A LOT cause I love Steve)

I uh…I binged it since 2am this morning, every episode 😅 I really enjoyed it, didn’t love the first 2 or so episodes I thought they were cringe & try hard. Once it got its groove and the plot & central mystery kicked off it got really fun and addictive

I'm starting to think Eleven is the ultimate boss here. In someways I think part of herself will have to die, similarly to Harry Potter, in order to destroy the upside down in S5.

Great review, Grace! I guess I’m the only person who likes the Nancy/Steve development. I don’t think them getting back together would be regressive at all. They’ve both matured. They’re both able to handle the traumas of the past a little better without linking it to each other. On top of that, it kind of feels like Nancy/Jonathan have become stagnant, which was what Nancy was afraid of back in season 1 when talking about her parents. But if they don’t get together, I wouldn’t be upset either. Nancy clearly doesn’t need a boyfriend to be badass.

Was pretty surprised that we got such a good season, loved the Max sequence i really thought she might die there, the part of the cops shooting was good and fast, the whole idea of how the gates open and the reveal of the link of 001 with the curse really well written, the only things i didnt like as much was the friend of joyce was a bit too over the top, and then maybe the secuence when they went to see Dustin gf that was like soo silly ... i guess they needed to counter tone with all the murdering but its fine, GREAT season so far.
First I figured out Vecna was a test subject for the simple fact that he an Eleven have the EXACT same powers. Then I knew he was the boy because of how he "died" and they made mention of his "sensitivity". I found out the guard was Vecna the latest actually. Writing was 🔥🔥🔥
Tbh. As an lgbt person, I think Will’s portrayal is INCREDIBLY realistic. Although I agree it is problematic, being lgbt doesn’t always have to be reflected positively! These are some harsh realities and I can empathize/relate to Will’s character (even cringe at times). I think Will’s portrayal reflects a lot of what young lgbt members go through with having those emerging hormones and struggling to direct them since our options are more limited. I’m excited yet dreading Will’s eventual coming out, but I’m interested to see how that will affect the gang going forward.
I also agree about Will's feelings being realistic, Pria! One of my gay friends went through that. He had a platonic crush for his best friend who is a straight guy, and it was hard for him to try and not fall in love with someone so close to him but who didn't share the same sexual orientation. AND watch him be with other people. On a side note, I think Will can do better thank Mike. LOL And maybe that painting of his has something to do with his coming out?
Me too! I'm gay and I actually feel SO BAD for Will. He is literally alone even though he is surrounded by his friends - that is so familiar to me. No one understands him and they even get frustrated with him. He doesn't really have a decent friend/family member he can talk to. I went through the same thing. It's so painful. Whoever wrote his storyline did their research. It's really accurate.

@@denisespieces4744 Aw thanks, Denise. At 35 I'm much better. Being gay for some will always be some kind of struggle, but I'm blessed in so many other ways so I just focus on that. Thanks for your kind words.
I also guessed he was 001 but didn't put him as Creels son. So I loved that reveal. I loved the way Nancy was being shown by Vecna at the same time 11 was remembering what happened and 001 was revealing his past and identity. And yet again, an amazing soundtrack. Kate Bush 👌that scene with Max was just stunning!
