He's been such an inspiration for me in the past year or so! I've really learned to imitate his style quite well I think, and I"m able to use it multiple times a week on gigs. I don't know how I had never heard of him before, now he's one of my favorite pianists!
Corte, your efforts to share such a huge volume of McKenna's playing is much appreciated. It has made a huge difference to me and my musical development.
Don't ever call a musician "underated on youtube you will catch hell. Perhaps less well known"-I m sure I 'll get some wonderful feedback on that as well.
🎹 I met Dave in London in the seventies where we were both performing. A sweetheart of a guy and the greatest left hand in jazz piano.
Amazing! The man had the best left hand in jazz!
C Jam Blues doesn't sound like this when I play it😊
This is the BOMB!
How is it possible that I've never heard of this REALLY talented pianist??? And I have been listening to jazz for about 65 years!!
He is nestled within a Boston Jazz niche

That's the sad part. There are probably countless amazing musicians that most people will never hear.
And I too. Increditable!
Check him out with scott hamilton
This sounds like 2 trains out having a good time of it.

Brilliant. What a talent this very modest man had.
5:10 So absolutely, Dave McKenna- beautiful!!! ❤️❤️🩹❤️ - The Subtle Genius
Dave McKenna's playing here of C Jam Blues has got to be the coolest bit of jazz piano playing I've ever heard! Cool to the max!!
I know, right! He's so great, I can never get enough of him, it never gets boring
He was one-man band at the piano, totally self-sufficient! He must have had such fun at the piano! Sure wish I could ever do this!!@@thenetworkmystery
Only one word for this stuff…superb….
GREAT PIANO MAN
He was ambidextrous. He could make the piano sing. You can hear the lyrics as Dave plays, even if you don’t know the lyrics. One of the greats!
Great c jam. Masterful.
Saw this cat live many many times and there is Nothing more to say!
Robert Massaro Me too
Me too
AMAZING!
he knows how to swing!
The second song Dave McKenna plays is Duke Ellington's Sunset and The Mockingbird
The title is Sunset and the Mocking Bird.
King of Swing.
Great playing by master of solo piano. Loved his modulations on diminished chord. I do that sometime. Thanks so much!
Talked with Steve Rudolph after his set and he sent me here! What amazing chops!
Thanks, Dave!
A great Pianist
what a wonderful sunset....
david McKenna was one of the few pianist that Oscar Peterson liked and appreciated, Oscar made a good choice.
Oscar Peterson was (rightfully) floored / completely blown away by Dave McKenna's natural talent.
incredible....as always.
This is the paragon of taste and instinct.
oh maaan! I love him. Thanks for sharing. Havent listened to Dave for a too long time!
that left hand!!
soooo steady and bluesy
And seemingly with its own "on-board computer"!
You should see the left hand virtiosity of great boogie woogie masters of 1940 's
Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis...Mind boggling...
Tell me, who can top this guy? I just love him, his music will live forever.
Erroll Garner
@@Razorsharpedge of course! Errol Garner was one of his mentors probably!
Thank you.. SIR,.....
Amazing
Jolies harmonies comme les vieux les aiment!
three handed, amazing
He does more with his left hand than most people do with their right
Bellissimo!!
Pure creativity; I'd ha' loved to have head Dave McK' and Oscar P' jam together!
The swing and "Built-in Drummer" is right up font!
The two best!
A treasure!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
How do I get a left hand like that? Should I practice it so much it becomes automatic and I don't have to think about it when improvising?
Yes, that’s exactly what you do. 😬
Viva!Newyork Steinway!
That's cool !!
Thats so neat
Insane!!’😂
Great!
Happy Thanksgiving 2018
Minut 5.oo.......great CHANGE.... 🌀
3 handed style lol. I can see why it's called that in his amazing keyboard mastery. One of the true masters
Here is a man with three hands.
sweet
👌👏👏👏🐬
Well, there's more than a hint of bebop there.
Wow
c'e' ne e' abbastanza per restare incantati per tutta la vita 🙂
How typical of McKenna's dry musical wit to do a cycle of modulations on "C-jam blues". Brilliant.

WTH is there to dislike? Are ppl deaf?
