Kyoto Gion Mametora] Mamezushi is the specialty! Luxury Lunch

  • The day after enjoying crab and fresh squid at Osaka Kani-Douraku Amimoto Annex, we visited Gion Mametora in Kyoto, famous for Coco's favorite "mame-asara" kaiseki (small plates of food served on a small plate).
    Mametora (formerly Kawatomi) is located in Gion-cho, Kyoto, on the elegant stone-paved Hanamikoji Street.
    Mametora is a very popular restaurant that specializes in "mame-asara" (small plates of seasonal delicacies) dishes, especially bite-sized mame-zushi sushi that even maiko (apprentice geishas with chobo mouths) can enjoy.
    The restaurant, which is housed in a renovated machiya (townhouse), is a large box with 94 seats in total, including spacious tatami rooms and private rooms in the relaxed atmosphere of a Japanese house.
    This time we were served a lunch course in a spacious tatami room with sunken kotatsu seating.
    There are two types of lunch courses, one for 6,800 yen and the other for 4,800 yen.
    Since we were in the mood for a good meal, we went with the 6800 yen course, which included a 12-piece set of sushi and bean dishes.
    The 4800 yen course has three bean dishes and a fried dish instead of a grilled dish.
    In my opinion, the grilled Spanish mackerel was delicious.
    Anyway, it is a dish that is pleasing to the eye.
    In particular, each bean sushi is carefully prepared, and the colorful ingredients and the cute shape of the nigiri (hand-formed sushi ball) are a delight.
    I felt that many of the customers were young women.
    Coco-san has been visiting several times since the old Kawatomi, and she is especially fond of the myoga no mamezushi (bean sushi with myoga), which seemed to satisfy Coco-san's chubby mouth.
    It was the perfect luxury lunch for those of us who like to eat a little bit of everything.
    The location of this restaurant is excellent, so it is recommended for lunch while sightseeing.
    It is a very popular restaurant, so advance reservations are essential.

    いろんな種類を堪能できて

      こんな素敵なお店が近くにある京都って最高ですよね。
      焼き魚の皮がまたお酒に合うんですよね。
      正直、酒飲みの私には全てが美味しい酒の肴でした☺️
