    Great series!
    It's refreshing to see someone travelling alone who is so comfortable doing so. I've recently had to retire so the prospect of much 4wd travelling in our state (WA too) looks even more appealing. Nearly all videos are of groups so seeing a solo is great.

    Good to see your not found a real job yet mate... LOL.
    Just watching you push through that crossing (16.13) and noted you were pushing up a reasonable bow wave, just a warning for the unseasoned traveller about deep crossings take your time not to much juice as the water pressure can push your radiator back onto your fan and trash your day. mind you its heaven out there but waiting for spare parts in painful. happy trails Mate.

    Howdy, I look forward to your videos each week.
    The "No Drone Zone" signs at ELQ surprised me as well, had to keep my Mavic in its carrycase. I was camped at Home Valley Stn Jul-17 and a pilot there explained all. Many sightseeing helicopters operate out of ELQ, HV8, the Bungles, Mitchel Falls etc during the dry season. They might fly quite low thru the ravines and don't want to bump into the growing number of drones turning up. The civil aviation altitude rules (max, min) on drones and Helos are relative to the ground, but that varies wildly around ravines (a drone flying off the top can fly over, or into, a Helo flying in a ravine). So Helos take priority over recreational drones, C'est la vie - with my support.

    • @GavinGillett
      @GavinGillett  6 років тому +2

      As a pilot myself I feel I have an extra responsibility towards my fellow pilots to raise awareness of the risks drone pilots are taking when flying drones in restricted airspace. Many drone pilots are blissfully unaware they could bring down aircraft easily, even with the smallest of drones and the results would be devastating.

    Its not just people doing dumb stuff with drones, its because they are noisy. People go to those places because they are tranquil, they don't want to hear a flying lawn mower. People with drones and people blaring music from Bluetooth speakers are a real problem now.

    Hi Gavin, thanks again for a fantastic insight into this amazing landscape. Totally agree with comments posted that your filming an editing & cool commentary is pretty exceptional in my humble opinion.
    Very inspiring. The rooftop tent may well be what I need to look at to persuade my wife she will survive the wildlife. lol, she is Austrian born so quite understandable really. Polar opposite landscape.

      Guy Littlejohn check out the Alu-Cab RTT. After the CSR trip Quickpitch contacted me to try out their latest RTT. I've had it now for 4 months and although there is one thing I don't like everything else is better than my old James Baroud.

    • @guylittlejohn5515
      @guylittlejohn5515 6 років тому +1

      Thanks for your responses Gavin, your tried and proven experiences translate to great solid info for your viewers. As you would well know an absolute minefield awaits the buyer seeking to fit-out their vehicle properly for the long term. That's interesting your experience with the RTTs. I had wondered whether the solid construction of the SA products was the best way to go vs. the f/glass variants. The new 'icamper' which you have probably checked out looks great especially for 2 people because of the extra room created by the fold-out section. Great Crowd funding story and certainly looks well designed & put together. "Drifter' is the agent over this way NSW & Qld. Andrew has done a great job with Quick Pitch, I think we all agree on that. The internal access to RTT and space created with the push-up function while maintaining a comparatively low profile is impressive. lol - for a troopy that is -))
      Will you be travelling through Broken Hill on your eastward trip late April for the Off-road racing & eventual desert trip? Perhaps getting my facts mixed with Ronny D's plans. Apologies for harping on, probably bad form. Apologies to all if so. Thanks again.

      Guy Littlejohn G'day mate, my pleasure. I always enjoy chatting with fellow 4wders about gear and trips. Currently I have no plans to go through broken hill this year but I do get close. I will visit Camerons corner on my travels. I think thats Ronny going through NSW but I cant be sure.

    Really impressed that you got the plugs to stick in the cut in the tyre! Any idea how many you actually put in there?

    • @GavinGillett
      @GavinGillett  6 років тому +2

      Chris Ross G'day mate, I only used 4 in the end. I was as surprised as anyone they held because a triangle shaped flap is a tricky repair

    • @gazpixs
      @gazpixs 6 років тому +2

      Thanks for sharing Gav. Yes those tyre plugs are brilliant, I have had twenty in a rear tyre of my old Suzuki GSR1100, yep I went on the same sort of roads as you have!! Yep a sports bike but it's the adventure not the destination... I now do it in now an X5 4.8, yep, sucker for punishment.
      I like your pragmatism with having the cross bar lug nut remover with alternate sizes so you can offer assistance to another traveller with alternate size lug nuts. BUT the servo, Repco, SCA type utilitarian X bars are not the best quality and can fail/peel apart/round out especially with heat/bull dust induced seizing. Just my experience, not a troll.
      I carry a 800mm breaker bar with two of my sized sockets for my lug nuts and three other possible sizes (and of course a torque wrench, haha for doing them up). Nothing is going to argue with that set up and it really is as simple as a lean on the breaker bar to get anything undone.
      Thanks Gav, enjoy watching your trips and soaking it up.
      Cheers Gaz
