Nice job you really made it look easy! Spud wrench too long for the 45 elbow. The landlord said that one of the radiators was too hot but he’s going to be disappointed, the way he could control the heating in the radiator is to close the vent valve or use a thermostatic air vent if there’s air in the radiator steam can’t go in, and the radiator valve needs to be wide open so condensate will drain back to the boiler otherwise he is going to get water hammer if the steam is coming up and the condensate is stuck in the radiator.
right, steam valves should be fully open or fully closed and nothing in between or banging may occur. radiator spud wrenches are cheap enough, get some extras and cut them off to fit.
@@seville2519 Well… I never said there was anything wrong with watching… I’m just not gonna have you watch though, I’m going to put you to work as well lol
I keep two Spud wrenches. On one of them, I cut the two smallest sections off so now it's a shorter spud wrench and I'm able to insert it fully without it interfering like in the case of the 45 that you mentioned.. and some other instances where I've used it..
to make life easier with those anode rods in tight places like that, a two foot, 1/2" flex head ratchet would do wonders or after you break it loose with your breaker bar have a shorter 1/2" ratchet so you dont have to reset every time. nice work, by the way.
Hey Mikey, I like how you explain how everything works. I have a question, so I replaced my boiler with a friend of mine & everything went well until the heat started to rise, then the water started shooting out of 4 radiators vale on the radiator, then one of my pipes that came fom the main pipes bust! Water was everywhere , so we attempted to fix the pipe, so what do I do with the radiators that was shooting out water from the valve?
I had issues with a 2014 ao smith water heater,i had debres stuck in the fill tube allowing cold water to enter through auxiliary holes in the middle of the tube ,i too thought it was the gas valve.
Not sure you can say those disparaging marks about Brooklyn. I’ve lived here since 1988 and have had no problems. Just kidding we got a bad rep. How did you get anode rod back in with no headspace? Thank you. Bob
For tight fitting jobs like this water heater, you might want to consider getting a torque multiplier to use with a ratcheting wrench. You get higher torque, but don't need to constantly remove the socket to adjust. It won't turn at quickly, since its just gear reduction, but might be easier with less adjusting, which might make up for the time lost.
Thanks Mike….. Thinking of replacing old valves on my radiators also….. Milwaukee saw… what type of blade did you use?….. We have about 10 valves... Only 2-3 need to be replaced.
Hey Mikey a fellow technician here I always seem to have trouble taking the plug out for the air release. If they plug is too tight the tolerance is more than the metal can take and I end up stripping the 1/4” hole
One valve leaking, the rest the same age, I get why it makes sense to go ahead and do them all. The others will leak sooner or later and your time to do it in the same visit costs less than another trip when the others do go.
Nice one Mike, what kind of thread sealant did you use for the anode rod? Teflon tape or dope or something else and the rod should have conductivity to the tank itself? Thanks

@@PipeDoctor I do replace anode rods when customers want to after I recommend it to them They look confused when I mention the anode rod but easy money.
Losing part of the anode rod in the tank was completely avoidable. Pull the rod straight up, clamp the rod at the tank with channellock, cut off the rod above it and then pull out the remaining rod.
you can use large bolt cutters to cut the anode rod in sections to get it out. obviously needs two people or clamps to hold the other part from falling in. cutting it any other way would cause too much debris in the tank. of course breaking it off wasn't great either, it laying on the bottom could cause a reaction and failure point, that said, not likely seeing how the rod is holding up in that water.
Why don’t you unscrew the valves instead of cutting them? My landlord refuses to replace the valves on our radiators, even though our bedrooms get over 86 degrees at night. He paid a boiler guy to trap air in them instead so that there is no heat.
That's why I would not remove the anode rod on an old water heater, especially in crammed quarters!I would not be surprised if the water heater now starts making popping and banging noise, as the water heats up from the broken rod on the bottom.
An old school plumber would have used a pipe wrench out side the tank. To use as a bending point just incase that was to happen. Then it would not be in the bottom of the tank just saying.
