Building a 2x72" Belt Grinder

  • It is time to upgrade my 2x72" belt grinder. I built my original belt grinder 2 years ago and never really finished it off properly and it's bugged me ever since. Didn't paint it, didn't take adequate protection of the VFD. The original motor was a second hand cheapy (1HP) which was also under powered and bogged down fairly easily.
I had a spare VFD ready to go so I bought a new 3HP motor to match. I also wanted an external control box system so that I could turn the belt grinder on/off and also control speed without having to touch the VFD and expose to dust and particles.
I hope you enjoy! It was very satisfying to rebuild this grinder and upgrade it significantly!

WOW, absolutely brilliant work. Everything in my shop is blue, when I saw that big blue beauty of a motor coming out of the box, I was in love. You have truly inspired me and I will do my best to make my own belt grinder. Thanks for sharing your skills.

Wow!!! "Respect brother" that is a friggen awesome custom linisher. I've always wanted a dial up speed control on some of my different purposed bench grinders. You have taken it to a new level with your set up. You have very talented fingers mate, a force not to be wreckon with. Keep up the great work.

Great build. I like the idea of using wood components along with the metal to save on cost and it probably dampens vibration some but also adds to the look of the unit. Nicely done.
