Gosh, yes, the incredible John Cullum, so precise in his pronunciation, so completely classy with that raspy baritone, he was something very special. If you ever get a chance to hear him sing 'I Rise Again' from the Broadway musical, 'On the Twentieth Century' you will appreciate it. He acted through his voice, could be dark, tender and then operatic, all in the same song, wow, always showstopping.
Very enjoyable! Mr Cullum demonstrates dynamic range, vocal resonance with quality intonation, and charismatic stage presence and makes it look easy. It's not.
This is GREAT, and I LOVED him in 1776. Some years ago, his son J.D. starred in Master Harold and the Boys at the Virginia Stage Company/the Wells Theater in Norfolk, VA. After the show, there was a Q&A session. Someone behind me asked a question. I turned around to see that John Cullum was asking the question/making a comment. My best friend and I nearly freaked out!

In my car on the way to work, I sometimes sing along with John on the CD player. Begins the day beautifully, and as I step out of the car, I feel I can do anything.
Wow it seems like the orchestra at the end started the final "ever more" too early, and Cullum still managed to finish without missing a beat! Such a phenomenal talent.
@@Themanwhocameback2 since every member of the orchestra played the music that was in front of them and stayed together flawlessly perhaps it is Mr. Cullum who forgot what was decided on in rehearsal.
@@stevepotfora7461 I think you are right. That wave to the conductor, as Mr Cullum leaves the stage, and the slight shake of the head are conclusive, I think. But what a singer and what a pro!
Came here due to watching Mr. Cullum sing this ( just a bit ) on the tv show The Middle. he plays the Grandfather watching him on Freeve. Blessings 🇺🇸🎚🙏
What a great voice Mr. Cullum has!
Absolutely show stopping. One of America's greatest stage artists. So versatile, and still active in his 80s. Thank you for this clip.

He also performed that in this concert, and it's in my Playlist.

17 years after introducing this great tune, John Cullum sounds incredible. Thank you sir.

So talented!
I loved him 1776 as Edward rutledge
The man has pipes!
In my car on the way to work, I sometimes sing along with John on the CD player. Begins the day beautifully, and as I step out of the car, I feel I can do anything.
Not too bad for a bar owner from Cicily Alaska!
Happy birthday john from italian boy live in rome

Yes, the orchestra f's up, but he just rises above it.
In upset because the end of the song is great, but Cullum still saved it

It seemed to me that the orchestra was trying to play faster than Mr. Cullum wanted throughout. Should have been negotiated in rehearsal.
Holling has quite the voice ❤️
Amazing..its Mike's dad on The Middle..he actually sang a snippet of this on the show but I had no idea! So great
Please. He’s so much more than that.
You don’t have to be rude about it.

Long gone are the songs that had a verse before the chorus. He is so wonderful.
I watched the movie version with Barbra Streisand last Saturday night. Loved it.
Top level pronunciation!
Northern Exposure
So different than his serious straight-laced all business stuffed shirt Dad he played in the 1983 film The Prodigal.
And then he moved far away, married a young woman, and started serving moose bugers.
This ain’t no Molasses to Rum but it’s still pretty good
He was in 1776 as Edward rutledge
Gigantic ham on parade !!!!!!!
Premium ham!
He was a terrific singer but he always seemed to belong in operetta - not romantic musicals.
I think he would destroy ( in a good way), " I am the very model of a modern major general"
