    I was editing this video and I realised I didn’t talk about something that is important for me.
    Towards the end of his life, Gauguin spent 2 trips of several years each in Tahiti.
    On each occasion, he took a « local wife », and even had children with them.
    These girls were respectively 13 and 14 years old, when he was around 45-50 years old.
    Now, you can say that the times were different, that the tribal traditions in Tahiti made it acceptable…
    Honestly, I don’t know. I do t have an answer to that.
    I don’t think a man is able to look at himself in the mirror when his lover is just a child, but that’s my opinion.
    If you are a victim, a witness, or even if you only have doubts about a child being abused, please reach out to someone.
    As for Gauguin, what is left are wonderful painting techniques. Let’s use them to create something beautiful, that goes beyond the very flawed human being he must have been.

    Hey man... I really enjoyed this... You did a great job... But I also really liked where you were going with the 2nd figure in the background too, before you painted her out. All in all... Awesome... You're inspiring me to get out the paints and give it a try 👍🏼

      Thanks a lot! Really appreciate it! Yeah, I toyed with the idea of having the second person at first then decided it wouldn’t be a balanced compo… so…

    Love the vids, very helpful. I see nothing wrong with using carbon paper. It's a perfectly legit means of putting an image on canvas.

      Hi! Thank you for your kind words! The sketch was done with acrylic paint, I think it was cobalt blue. Cheers!

    I love your videos! Recently I have been trying out Cloisonnism and love Gauguin. Your demonstration and explanation is excellent! Thank you so much. Can you please tell me what you used to do your bright blue sketch lines? And, are you painting in acrylic or oil?

      @@mygeekfamilycotton is there any particular reason you chose acrylic?

    • @mygeekfamilycotton
      @mygeekfamilycotton  2 роки тому

      @@ijennamirabelosuji hi Ijenna! Well, it’s for practical reasons: I don’t really have a studio and end up painting in my dining room or my office space most of the time. However, we also need the space for other obvious purposes (dining and office, lol). So, acrylic dries in 10 minutes and I can move the easel somewhere else… also, acrylic can be basically used with only a pot of water (except some mediums from time to time), and is therefore easier to clean and the turpentine smell doesn’t bother my family… hope this answers your question! 😋

    Si ! j'apprécie beaucoup le coup du papier carbone ! merci ! je m'apprêtais à noircir le dos de mon calque pour un tableau, vous m'évitez une étape ... longue, car mon tableau est grand (de taille ! 😄) !

    if you were to do this with oil paints, would the steps be the same? Love this video a lot :)

    • @mygeekfamilycotton
      @mygeekfamilycotton  Рік тому +1

      Hi Olivia ! My experience with oil paints is more limited, but the only issue I would see would be the drying time. I am used to paint quite fast (because acrylic dries very fast) and I guess you wouldn’t be able to go over the previous layers right away. Having said that, it could bring some interesting effects? Let me know if you try! And thanks for watching!

    I believe you are a good painter but Paul Gauguin? Sorry, study his paintings better in one of the museums, his technique is not so easy to reproduce. The color in his paintings is tinted and perfect, such a style requires more than serious practice. Sorry, this is not my bad intention, but this is a genius grandmaster Paul Gauguin.
