My cousin got me into Estes rockets. He didn't lose any because of his "rocket hound" Schnapps, who was a dachshund.
He'd launch and that dog would take off after it. I remember one coming down in a field of tall grass on the other side of a small stream. But... 8" of water 6' wide is a considerable obstacle to a Weiner dog. Bill carried him across, and off he went! The grass was 2-3' height. Less than a minute, and schnapps was barking at the rocket. That was around 1970.

That is a Fantastic story! Thank you for sharing! We had to put our dog down last year, she was 14, expected lifespan of 9 to 12 so she did really well. Still miss her. RIP Aspen.

That's a crazy good deal for that receiver!

Awww, he sounded so tired at the end there. Get a little exercise did ya. When I was 7-18 yesterday old my friends and I would compete to see who could angle their launch into the wind and try to get them to land closest to us. We'd even catch them to keep em from damage.

Ive used the same tracker in my space cowboy to 20000 feet no issues also had total faith using it for night launches in Australia.

I see lots of people in these rocket channels taping tag ends of various shock cords and such. Why not just add some superglue to the knot? I've been using that for years. Just asking.

Just never crossed my mind, I suppose. Do whatever works!

Props on the chopped fingers!!! What's the name of the system you use?

Tracker Flying Colors to the east of the TIR launch site. Crossed a ridge and suddenly my signal turned about 90+° to the south. Signals can get squirrelly once the rocket is on the ground. Probably not as big an issue on that lake bed.

Just have to know which way the rocket was going when it was in the air and use that as a general guideline for tracking!
..which I didn't do well in this video

Before you had this did you lose a lot of rockets?

    • @RocketVlogs

I've actually been fortunate enough to never lose anything high power, but I would try to keep flights around 3,000 feet before I had a tracker. I've met people that can track high-altitude flights without tracking no problem, but that certainly isn't me!

@@RocketVlogs when I was flying rockets,I lost a few,but the biggest one I lost was a Cherokee D Estes rocket. Of course that doesn't compare to yours but it still hurt.

THANK YOU for being Socially Conscious and wearing a face mask. It’s only because of people like you that I feel safe enough to go out in this COVID filled atmosphere. Props to you!👍

He is in the desert. He is wearing the gaiter (mask?) to prevent breathing in dust and to prevent sunburn on his face due to the reflectivity of the playa surface. Its not for the covid nonsense.
