I found your channel while I was trying to figure out how to change the oil on my Ferguson 4243. Thank god I found you, I would have never thought there was two drain plugs. Oil change a success thanks to you! New subscriber. Keep doing what you do! HAPPY FARMING! CHEERS!
Thanks very much Joel. Glad to help. Rich
these videos are really helpful even if you don't have the exact same tractor
Great video, love your practical videos around the farm.
Good job keep up the good work and keep smiling
I did the same Richard drained the oil changed the filter put the new oil in, could not work out why it took less than it said in the book , checked again double plugs DOH same on the rear axle too, yes great post preserver, very satisfying job , thanks.

Great job Richard, good for another year or two
lovely video Richard
waste oil great for, painting on posts b4 you put them into the ground, aslo great for the front of concrete pans so concrete wont stick
Diesel is better or actual form work oil.bit it’s €400 a barrel
Changing my annual filters and fluids this month! Cheers!
Great video as always
If you have no filter wrench a farmers tip is to wrap baler twine round and round the filter in as anti clockwise direction, the twist the end round a bar or long spanner , then twist off and hey presto. Never failed in 50 years.
A messy job but has to be done sometimes you're probably fined that it's a split sump that's why there's two drains keep up the good work Richard have a look at mine videos if you want cheers Antony farming.
First time in 7 years / 4200 hours? OMG. We did our MF3085 every 300 Hours, what means every 6 months
That oil looks discusting. Glad to decided to change it. Good job.
Hi Richard, im not here to critize or anything but i want to give you a tip while you are changing the oil and filter. On the bottom plugs, you only need to open one of them. There are two of them but thats only to give you the option to change the oil if the tractor is leaning to one of the sides. Also there should be a copper ring to function as a sealing (if the cooper ring is still in place then you can take a blowtorch and re-heat the ring and dip it in water to make it soft again). You have a great blog and im quite enjoying watching your videos here on youtube! Im living in Norway and have my own sheep farm, but im working on the other dairyfarms and cattle farms when they need my help. Maybe next year me and the misses will take the trip to England and we might just drop in on you to see your place and take with us some of your experience on dairy farming. Two tumbs up anyways ;)
Great job i have a ford 4000 and it has only 1 drain plug
Do a full machine tour
Good video. I have the 4235 How do I change the hydraulic oil? I found a dip stick on the back of the tractor, but not sure how to add . I have a front loader, but it's starting move slow. The 3 point works fine. Thanks
Don't forget your axle and hub oils😊
Rob JW not a lot of tractors have those! My New Holland for example has grease points rather than oil
Brooke Cable most tractors with 4wd have oil
@@Brooke_RS197 the drive hubs from the front have oil in the 80/90 gearoil and yes i drive new holland zo dont tel me that iam wrong
it has to drain plugs becaus the shaft from 4wd runs under /in the oil pan
Would be nice if you started a patron for your channel. I find it very informative and my children do to. Would love to support your work
the oil is gray in color, it has metal in it
Where is the hydraulic oil filter on these Massey's
When you drain the engine oil pull the dipstick out so the plug so it doesn’t become air locked
?
Going that long between oil changes and the grey coloration of oil unfourtunately means a reduced lifespan of your Tractor engine 😕
Like you write on the filter and manual
The muck spreader was made in Aberdeen Scotland Marshall trailers
Yes. Good company
I live 2 miles from Marshall Traillers and I can see the family's house from my back window
you should change to new plugs because the old seal can leak.
Which model is this engine, could it be Perkins?
any idea where ecu is on these tractors cheers
scibe the date you changed it on filter with screwdriver
nice video kinda need some new rubber on that tractor tho :)
King Charles doesn'tchange his own oil inthe UK
Who's your stock bull if your having calfs on the farm
We use Ai
thefunkyfarmer ok thx
Hello . Do you use the metric system ? Allways tought that the UK was in the imperial system .
A bit of both for my age group
Great vid Richard, what’s the model number of your muck spreader?
Tom ms105 I think
70
thefunkyfarmer oh so 7 cubic yards then
70
Cool, great video. upgrade of gazelledaily.com will be up around Oct. 3rd thanks, again Jesse
Our new holland has two filters alote of oil plugs any how
one engine oil filter two fuel filters and tho for.the.back.most.of the tymes
How cum you did not tell us the new oil grade no. 10/30 or 20/50
Because I forgot
How ya any idea where the fuel filter s are in the 4200serious
30cm Over the oil flter
It's not 16mm Massey has very very few bolts that are 16mm if any!! You'll just round the head of the bolt then you just have to bore it and get it tapped.
Well that's what fitted
@@thefunkyfarmerthat's right. Whatever fits, it works.
Good job and nice tractor! It wort to buy one second hand for £15000 at aprox. 6000 h?
MaxIULIAN seem fairly pricey for the hours I would have a good look and test drive first.
no becaus those gearboxes are shit
Regards...
case MX series mudguards on the front ?
i don't know, they came with the tractor when we bought it
Kieran Featherstone no we have a massey 4355 with the same mudgards
What your plan for the old oil ?
Toby walker nice fire starter 👍
Toby walker we have a 1000litres container that we wait for it to fill up. Then a recycling company picks it up. But u can heat ur house with an all oil burner
!
As someone else said., dipping fence stakes
Did you go to Agric College?
Yes. Hartpury
in a car you meant to fill the filter before you put it on ? not sure if its the same on a tractor ?? great vid thanks
on vintage tractors you do, i would have thought the same with modern ones
It's always good to do if possible. You couldn't put too much oil in that filter anyway since it mounts on it's side.

Good day. Even getting old you can learn something new, 1st don,t spill coffee on lap top, done for week, put oil in filter, before putting tractor. Ih dealer said change every yr. even if you only put 9 hrs. like I do.
Don Voll 9hrs a years, ours does that a day at least
N0000p
And i havent finished watching the vidoe yet but old engine oil is carsnagenic be careful
So what happened to running the engine to fill the filter and the check if there was any leeks on the oil plugs and the filter and to recheck the oil because it would have dropped due to the filter being empty on first start up, Also I do hope that under Coshh regulations you chemically sanitised your hands before milking or touched any feed stuffs due to the fact you got pollutant on your hands, (black old oil), #shakingmyheadindisbelief#
Stuart Barry Are you for real? He would have washed his hands straight away as they were covered in oil! Also anyone who's ever worked on a dairy farm would know you either wear solvex or disposable gloved when milking!
I'm sure Richard did check the level again after running. But regardless your being really pedantic.
Yes Stuart I did all those things, and topped up with oil after. Just remember I'm not a professional mechanic and the videos I do aren't meant to be the definitive guild on how to do something, just how I do it. Anyway how do you know I milked any cows on the day I did this?
It's guys like Stuart that have destroyed this country with their bullsh!t rules and regulations that prevent you from doing everything ... He has no place in society and should crawl back under his stone ... The oil change was a fine job and how most people do it .. Well done keep Britain farming !! 😀
Can I have a shout out plz
buy a new tractor please a Massey
You make me laugh you wear gloves for jobs when you don't need them and a when you do need them you dont wear them
There's a simple explanation for the lack of gloves in this video. I can't operate the camera with oily gloves on. Normally I would wear them for a job like this.
Like with when you see me wearing them when you think I don't need them, you only get half the story.
thefunkyfarmer Okay but personally I would focus on not getting carcinogenic oil on my hands then getting oil on
a camera. I know someone who got cancer out of the blue and he did a lot of work with oil and never worn gloves...
Ok I get the message but I think the risk is negligible considering the level of exposure I get
Small exposure once or twice will do no harm but i know someone who did get cancer after he spent years working with hyraulic oil and no gloves
It's not actually been proven as a cancer cause for humans though. A the experiments were carried out on mice
first
great one Richard we did our tractor in summer
Another good video.....Tyre's going to need done soon
