    🌷🌼 I must admit, I do use Round-up Weedkiller to clear persistent weeds . Bindweed, couch grass , brambles. These are IMPOSSIBLE to remove otherwise.
    Ps. No critical replies please. I realise this is a delicate subject.

    Sarah, I really love your allotment channel, you are such fun to garden with, I hurt and puff right along side you and that is the extent of my gardening 🤣 To old anyway. Those big tiles will make a lovely patio for you, Mick and the family, such a nice person that brought them over. Everything is looking better all the time, you're officially a gardener !! 😃 Much love and hugs 🥰🥰 xx

    Have a sack barrow, its amazing what I can shift with it, a old gardener here, did a Apprenticeship in Horticulture and Gardening over 44 years ago, here in New Zealand. But am nearly self sufficient in vegetables and alot of fruit. But have just installed a tunnel house after 31 years in this garden, so am learning a whole lot of new stuff.

    I too have one of those kneeler/seats and its really great for when you stop for a cuppa down by the bed you're working on as you can take a look at your work in comfort. I could never get up from a kneeling position but will its handles I can. You are doing a great job Sarah and if you want to warm your soil up in futures use black polythene or the membrane stuff.

    I really like you. Our garden got a late start because of the weather. It is coming along even though the weather is still chilly. My husband and I struggled to get what we planted into the ground this year as we are having some health issues. We have been gardening all 51 years of our married life and before that all our childhood. I could give you a lot of advice but it may not work well in your climate and with your soil condition. Just keep trying and you will be fine.

    my mums allotment is also very steep, hers on the side of a mountain in N Wales but as she has top top she gets a lot sun and an amazing view of the whole Dee Valley Llangollen, see the town, the castle on big hill and river in the valley and the other side valley rock faces the views make up for the walk up carrying stuff. the plot im trying to get on it an allotment my granddad worked on for decades its only 100 meters from my house with shed full of tools so i really don't need to leave a lot on site, depending on what plot i finally get it could take some time rail bridge to one side with a railway track running along back of the allotment but its a very well kept one, one main reason i want one is for root crops as just not space at home, and also expand my pepper and chili plants too so im going to get away with a crazy amount weeding as slightly more under cover, greenhouses or Polly tunnels depending on plot as a lot middle class snobs in my area in Warwickshire , i know soil great for root crops, my granddad he always had loads to last the year till the next harvest and they grew very well, a lot berry plants , rows peas, he had everything growing we very rarely need to bu from the shop he worked it so well and thankfully that allotment close and not hilly esp for 100m from my house to bottom of the bridge. im holding out for that one even if it takes longer because its so close so even on bad health day i still get up and do something, and will be doing a lot companion planting so certain flowers best grown by certain crops, certain crops what best to be grown near each other or border a certain crop so will have a lot growing. making plans and learning as much as i can regarding companion planting so when i do finally get my chance i can make a really good go at it. i know its not easy but like i did in the garden as bad health take a bite by bite it get done it may just take longer small bites you seen eat whole cake the way i see it. i think i have it easy on allotment plots i want you can drive your in to the allotment most the way up so if anything way to heavy at least that is an option, id really struggle with one on steep hill so hats of to you it takes a lot extra hard work but it coming along great

    • @stevekenilworth
      @stevekenilworth 4 місяці тому

      @@sarahsallotmentjourney yep i have a plan in my head, two options with plots they can be more square or narrow and long so what ever i get offered i got a idea in place for that. rest is just a lot hard work as hopefully before then ive learned enough to make a great start, crop rotation is the bit im still trying to work out as that best for the soil so few beds i need the same size where i can do a bit rotation and maybe grow something to add to the soil but as quite heavy soil it have a lot goodness already in it so maybe ever few years, i know some raised bed but more hip height so plenty seed and no bending down so that make it better for me. its a big space for one inc working home garden too so ive got to come with ways where it makes life better so some extra height beds they can be very useful and as they be deep im not limited to what i can grow but of course to start im going to have to spend a bit but once got layout done correctly and built to last structures things get more chilled and focus more on growing and enjoying my time outdoors. as its so close i can see what they have got in the allotment so it helps to plan better of what allowed and not, i know there is a tap but its very central so if i get far plot like my granddad had he set up a water collection from roof his shed . time i get a plot id learned a lot tried a lot and have a few solid plans a and layouts for different shape plots well that the aim so in some ways the bit extra time may get me even more ready. it feel odd tho working same allotment sing same tools my granddad used but i feel its about time to get a plot and really looking forwards to it. even the lady who deals with the list we had things in common like grow cacti from seeds and get own seeds from our own cacti we had a long chat and she knows my health not so great and said that not an issue and by end long call she saying she wishes sh had a plot to give me that day, she also remembers my granddad and how well his plot was kept so got a lot to live up to so learning and planning before hand will sure help a lot

    Wood ash from a wood stove helps with weeds and it also gives nutrients to the soil. Your garden looks great! I've seen a video of a repellent for midgies is vanilla extract, you just pour some in your hand and rub, or spray bottle. I haven't tried it yet. Take your time so you don't throw your back out. If your buggy would of took off downhill wouldn't of been good. Awesome job on the fence! Beautiful colors on the flowers. ❤❤
