Did anyone else feel a touch of emotion in Ghost's voice when he said "Rest in Peace Johnny", or was that just me?

Me honestly no. I was pretty disappointed in how they handled that. It felt to lazy.
I thought it was more emotionally sad even after he died on the spot, Ghost was still compelled to go to Soap even after he died😢
Ghost secretly hated Soap, he was just glad that Soap was dead

The sad story of Soap is that his death was nothing compared to the original. This felt like something they needed a death for the sake of it.
It wasn’t cinematic but it definitely was realistic

If price would have let soap kill makarov at that helicopter 🚁 in 2019 and before mw1 came out he would still be alive and the only thing they would dealt with is just taking out general barkov, fighting Al qatala, taking urzikstan back and dealing with Hassan and the Mexican cartel and shadow company that’s it there would have not been a mw3

I honestly think it would’ve been more tragic had MW3’s story been DLC, imagine getting attached to this version of Soap and his dynamic with Ghost then the DLC drops and kills him, the same game we met and accepted this iteration would’ve been the same that killed him, at least with MW3 being a “Sequel” Soap had more time to be alive even if it was a little

I think i gotta disagree a bit. Yeah killing off soap in a dlc update of mw2 and ending it there would’ve been kinda lazy and frustrating, but If mw3s campaign was a different fully developed story, they could’ve made the plot of price hunting and getting that revenge back on makarov for soap. I think it would’ve made the mw3 story a lot more interesting

I think that it would have been more impactful if we didn’t have so many characters in the story. The story has way too many characters, and playable characters. Where we are splitting up the teams and not actually getting much time with many of them. Just a bit of time with all of them, which I think is the issue. No time to get to like them. Think for that stealth mission in MW2 imagine we had more moments of the characters getting to know each other. Too many characters is a minus, I feel like that’s why Alex got done so dirty, he went from a playable main character to a side characters side character. With too many characters no one gets to shine
I’m gonna be honest, his death caught me by surprise. MW3s campaign isn’t the greatest and it was super short. But it had some good moments. His death left me stunned just sitting there staring at the screen. I felt that hard

My hot take on Soap’s death is that like most I agree his death was untimely and undeserved based on how this continuity went from 2019 and onward. Story wise for MW3 its not only the death I had issue with but the story overall. Again like most you can see that this was rushed poorly and that they wanted to give us a heroism story to lead into something deeper but the execution wasn’t exactly there. Most people are banking on the idea of Gaz dying which is a good idea but we’re missing the key objective that Makarov had in mind which was taking over Urzikstan like Barkov did. He wanted world terror by taking what the “Real Russia” failed to achieve. I think if they do keep all of the actual things in the campaign and have Soap knocked down by his wound and Makarov critically injuring Price as he retreats from Gaz and Ghost with then Soap and Gaz defusing said bomb in Trojan Horse, this could’ve lead to something much worse because now that TF 141 is out of the way he can focus on the main objective which would lead to Farah’s death with that being the final mission naming it a Loose End as you have a pov of Farah meeting her end and cutting the scene to black giving us a chilling ending of a real threat taking down what most would consider Price’s surrogate daughter since his rescuing and support of her have been very admit throughout this timeline. Then lead into two after credits scenes of Ghost ending Shepherd for his betrayal of TF 141 as a direct order of the Government and another of Alex, Graves and Kamarov with possibly Yuri getting ready for a WW against Konni group and Makarov showing them in the backfoot of Konni destroying Urzikstan like how the Spetsnaz attacked Washington DC in OG MW2.
They did his death so fucking dirty, it’s actually unreal.

I definitely agree, but it kinda makes it more realistic in my opinion. In war shit can go down at any moment, your card could get punched literally at any time. However the og is still miles better

Honestly what would’ve been cool is if Price had died (or depending on if the fans whined abt it just critically injured) and instead of Price Vs Makarov like The OG trilogy The new trilogy would’ve been Soap and Makarov’s hatred for each other, especially after the flashback mission and the helicopter scene it could’ve worked, shame it didn’t happen it could’ve been a cool twist for the reboot
Maybe Price dying was a good idea because we can see his POV how he die, and could be more "impressive"
soaps death in mw3 2023 made me cry, I didn't expect him to die. And the funeral and how close price, gaz, and ghost were and how each said goodbye to him

The whole ghost and John (soap) story is awesome and the way it ends is so sad and puts me to tears
I don’t think MWIII’s was awful or even bad. But killing off Soap (who was my favorite character in this trilogy) PISSED me off.

Soap has always been my favorite too. I feel exactly the same as you. I was also having decent fun with the campaign, until that bs death happened and it made feel a bit empty. Both this and OG soap were my favorites and having this one killed off like this was just stupid

So when did soap and ghost meet? They were on the mission at the stadium in 2019 but at the start of MW2 in 2022 they make it seem like they’re just meeting then?
I do find it funny Price said Soap was a sniper yet don't think we ever snipe with him in the campaigns

Do you guys remember the cinematic scene in the mission “ Frozen Tundra “ when all of task force 141 was surrounding general shepherd on the ice and Soap mentions to shepherd that he has the option to have a warm ride home or that he may “ freeze to death “.
Then ghost says “ That’s the one I’m partial too “ with a straight dead look on his face.
I think that this is a nice little cameo back to Mw2 when Ghost is shot and killed by shepherd, kind of hinting that it was sentimental personal grudge that ghost held against shepherd giving it a nice little cameo to the og series.
I'm pissed off that they killed him off again. My favorite character I had to watch get killed twice in two different story lines.

Honestly i think we needed a snap moment for ghost here. Just like price in the old mw3 when soap died. That gave the moment such more pain

I wonder if they'll lead into the "ghosts" storyline, especially with them mentioning the illegal strike on the cartel with General Shepard. We could play as roach in the next game, but leading up to the game (assuming we get more story based cutscenes from mw3), they could show us more about ghosts back story, the missions he did before etc... with elias walker and possibly even rourke, eventually recruiting them to help in the present day to kill makarov.
Ultimately, this would all be revealed at a good pace between seasons until the last season, at which it'd probably end with them finally having recruited walker and rourke (maybe more ghosts?). The way the campaign ended, it seems they're setting up Makarov to use the mexican cartels to fight against 141 now that farah can't be false flagged.
With how abruptly it ended (soap dying, etc), it seems perfect for them to lead into maybe tensions rising with mexico since the information of a 4 star general allowing bombings to take place in mexico was publicly released. Then we go back and forth from ghosts back story to the present day, until we get to the end point, which would lead to the start of mw4 (which we won't get until 2026).
Since they're so keen on merging the IW and BO universe, its possible they could bring up South American issues Mason and woods had with Menendez in the next black ops game. This could allow for David Mason to be included in mw4 apart of TF141 since he'd be a navy seal, and the main issue of the game could possibly be between the US and mexico/makarov.
Both kinda thought out and simple, but it's the only way I'd really enjoy the direction of the story after the abrupt and terrible ending to mw3. Could finally end MW with the 4th game officially combining the universe', possibly making a GOOD reboot to ghosts, including all our favorite characters (except soap, rip...maybe even price will die in the 4th game).
Since Microsoft will be in charge, it's possible they'll commit to the 2 year plan with treyarch, meaning no new game in 2025, just an ACTUAL dlc update to the game. Mw4 then being the last game to be worked on separately, whereas every game after will release 2 years, maybe even 3, with all studios working together with a CLEAR VISION of what needs to happen.
This would allow for both a proper spec ops (like the og mw2 and mw3) and zombies mode to both thrive on the same game, increasing the amount of "content" in each game released. Increasing the quality as well, since random dev teams wont be getting pulled from their own projects to fix other ones. It's a win-win for the devs and us. They make more money off micro transactions from the increase in content in each game , and we get fully complete games day 1, with unmatched support over time.
Can’t believe how the did Soap dirty in MWIII. Zero emotion in his death scene that happens on the blink of an eye. Like they just threw it in there just because they remembered they had to do it at the last minute

I love how they killed him and let wrapped up the game it like 2 minutes flat. In mw3 he got like a 10 minute long send off, in this one he gets capped in the head and Makarov buggers off
Am I the only one thinking about how the frick did Makarov run towards the sunset after starting a gunfight, getting stabbed in the neck by Soap and then killing him like nothing happened?
To be fair, even in the OG MW series Makarov survives a lot of stuff that doesn't make any sense.

In the OG trilogy you can get his "journal" as a collectors edition bonus. He brought soap on a rope during SAS selection.
This soap def has more character and he was actually a really good reboot character im not gonna lie,the original was and will always be the best,the reboot soap really grew on alot of us because of his character humour and everything,his death scene was really realistic and fast and unpredicted which i think was a cool death scene bit the aftermath ,just letting makarov go like that and not even making his death so emotional like the original but that was realistic
This campaign was alright it isnt the worst campaign of altime but alot of things was really dumb,the weapons free was so dumb and notneeded,also alot of missions werent so special anf memorable

soap could be alive, they might have not been soap, maybe someone acting as soap, as his new skin isnt called soap but Hector and his description says "Well, i wasn't in that tunnel" Just like graves said "I wasnt in that tank" this could be possible but unlikely

I’m still shocked he died, I didn’t id expect to be this shocked over a call of duty campaign death but just seeing how soaps character developed in such a short time and his friendship with ghost became it was just sad seeing him die 🫤

In the new timeline all Ghillied up still happened but it didn’t take place in 1996 price is a lot younger in this timeline.

It would be interesting if we got a DLC about either ghost/price try to hunt down Makarov and either they found out his next plan or they got caught and waiting for the next game for them to be rescue
From Soap's death, Price kills Shepherd and then TF141 get disavowed.
And as the snippet shown in MWII, when regular authorities are chasing TF141, they ultimately become Ghost team. This time, this Ghost team will not only be lead by the will to make a greater world but essentially by vengeance coming from Soap's death.
They will fight according to the ideals of Soaps in this new unit : 1st: As a team like Soap taught Ghost and 2nd with no mercy towards the enemy as Soap taught Price.
So in other words, Soap's death will trigger the creation of the rebooted Ghost team.

I was excited when I heard their names back in mw2019 and now I'm disappointed for what happened to soap I thought they would redeem themselves but no
I also think this makes me realise how perfect the mw2 2022 campaign was
When soap was threatening to kill Makarov the pilots were just so chill also zombies is supposedly in a different timeline
I never played COD, but i knew soap died in the OG MW3. However, from my experience watching MW 2019 and 2 i honestly though they wouldn't kill him off in 3, maybe in 4 but not in 3. he seemed like such a new and fresh character that they were building up that it was jarring to see him be offed like that. if anyone should have died, I was leaning towards Laswell because she is the connection between all the players and the one holding the peace between TF141 and shepard and shadow company. They could have done an internal conflict with those two groups and have them be pitted against each other while Makarov is watching it unfold and using it to his advantage and then plus adding more discourse in Farha's case. And then, a second death should have ended the game, either be Farha or Gaz. Gaz because he seems to be closer to Price in this series than the OG and would have hurt Price. Or Farha because then her resistant team would have fallen into chaos.
With Soap's death, I see this as a good way for them to bring in Roach. Not sure how, but it doesn't really feel right with A, Soap now being dead, and B, Roach still not introduced yet

Soap's death in the original MW3 had meaning, his death in the new one is just a cop out because it is a hastily put together mess.

One thing is still bothering me, both Soap AND Samara are still alive in the multiplayer. He got shot in the head, and Samara died in an explosion. If they are alive, that would mean that the multiplayer takes place some time around 2021, probably before or after deadbolt. But if that’s the case, then how is Makarov free? Either Soap and Samara miraculously survived, or Makarov escaped sometime in 2021. Or sledgehammer just wanted to include them in multiplayer.
Multiplayer isnt part of the story. Like Zombies is on a different timeline

Zombies is cannon to Campaign & Warzone. This is what Soap was doing during the WZ storyline.
The MW3 zombies continues the Dark Aether story that started w/ Cold War and had events that tied in in WZ. We also see Revnov, a character from CW zombies, working w/ Soap.
Rn the MW Reboots (MW1,2,3), All of the Black Ops games (BO1,2,3,4,CW), and Vangaurd are all in the same universe that is connected through Camoaign, WZ, Multiplayer, and Zombies.
