Special prosecutor Nathan Wade's team intervened during a CNN interview after he was asked about the timeline of his romantic relationship with Fani Willis, the district attorney prosecuting Donald Trump's Georgia election interference case.
Willis is leading the case against Trump and 18 others who have been accused of trying to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, lost the state by some 12,000 votes.
Wade was forced to resign from the case in mid-March after his relationship with Willis was revealed. Judge Scott McAfee, overseeing the case, ruled there was no conflict of interest but Willis could only remain on it if Wade quit.
However Willis is still under sustained scrutiny and earlier this month an appeals court in Georgia indefinitely paused the case against Trump, pending a ruling on defendants' efforts to disqualify Willis from the investigation.
In the CNN interview, Kaitlan Collins asked Wade what his relationship with Willis was like. Wade said they were "great friends" who "speak regularly" and discuss the case against Trump.

You can’t disqualify a prosecutor for simply being in a relationship. You have to show PROOF that the two benefited financially. Okay?

@@johnsosa7727 But ultimately that’s why the judge didn’t disqualify the District Attorney because of lack of evidence. And the Georgia Court of Appeals doesn’t like to aggravate a lower court’s decision as long as the lower court judge followed the law. In this case Judge Mcafee followed the law. There is a high bar that must be met to remove Willis and PROVE that Willis and Wade benefited financially from each other. I’m sorry if you don’t like it but it’s the law. When I say proof, I mean documentation and evidence from bank statements. Okay? The defense team couldn’t provide any. They got mad because she said she keeps cash in her home. All they had to do was prove that she DIDN’T keep cash in her home but they couldn’t. I have family members who keep cash in their home. They got mad at the wrong things instead of providing the evidence.
@@johnsosa7727 It’s a tough situation all around but it’s a very high bar for the defense if they want to disqualify the prosecutor and her entire office. That’s just how it works. There is no in between. Okay? All the defense has to do is prove that Wade and Willis benefited financially. If they can’t prove that, it’s a wrap.
