Looking back on this, the entire setup for the Bionicle universe is genius. We have an island the size of Denmark meant to be a mask for a 40,000,000 foot tall robot that encompasses millions if not billions of beings meant to be nanotech for maintenance, which is why Matoran culture is based around good work ethic, domes for artificial weather, like the ones around Metru Nui and other islands, are beneath the surface of the water, but the artificial gravity is so powerful nobody would've known that they were going downwards when they sailed to Metru Nui. The sunlight we see in Metru Nui isn't from two suns, but rather from the real sun just filtered through an unbelievably-huge artificial sky in the dome about Metru Nui. Other chains of islands are his arms and legs, Metru Nui is a computer that functions as his brain, and all those organic birds, the lightfish the Ga-Matoran use as lanterns, the sea creatures the Barraki's armies are made of, they're the indigenous inhabitants of Aqua Magna, hinted at as far back as 2001 when they showed organic fish and birds in the Mata Nui online game and the CGI animations like the commercials and the Templar studios animations. Genius.
This scene that shocked the world, leaving some to think Bionicle has derailed from what it was supposed to be, only for us to realize this was the plan all along. A robotic, humanoid spaceship by all means, the body of whom the matoran named "the great spirit", was large, built for the purpose of exploration of the galaxy, gathering of information, and reconstruction of the planet on which it was built. A genius, may I add, from lego. I used to feel something was wrong with what Bionicle became after. But my soul rests now that I spent year to process the events. And now, I find appreciation, and understand Bionicle as it was meant to be.
Yeah, there's concept art of the robot that dates back to 1999. Christian Faber based the whole thing around the time he had a benign brain tumor and had to take daily medication for it. It's genius how he came up with it.
Even back in the MNOG, Takua delves deep underground and encounters a surface layer than none of the Onu-Matoran’s tools seemed to be able to penetrate. That was Mata Nui’s face.
@@pwnorbepwned Yep, first thing that came to my mind when I saw it myself... post reveal that is. I guess a good robot has a very good armor! Who knows what lurks in space that could destroy it?
@@VideoMatoran Probably very little. That thing just landing on Earth would sterilize us. It's also got gravity devices that can destroy planets with ease, and it's overall power structure allowed it to sustain itself for a thousand years while powered down, and repair serious damage to itself from crashes. Unless you got a fleet of fast spacecraft that can target the eyes of metru nui (assuming there aren't any defenses there which I don't see why there wouldn't be), otherwise the armour is near-impenetrable. Even a crash into a celestia body at (most likely) high speed from a shutdown barely put a dent in the thing's main reactor. It's a deadly beast.
I loved bionicle from 2001-2003 and admittedly lost track of the saga for years... just stumbled on this video now, and my mind is blown. A mix of horror and awe
I hate the fact that even though this was my childhood, I never knew what bionicles truly are and even the purpose of masks was a mystery to me. If only I payed at least a little bit of attention to the lore back then... I could've saved all my favorite toa and rahi from becoming useless piles of lego pieces...
they abandoned the island by now and migrated back to Metru Nui, and Toa released Bohroks to cleanse the island of life in preparation for Mata Nui's awakening

The fact that there was a truth behind the myth of mata nui shows how deep the story can go.

Who else felt their childhood get destroyed along with the Island of Mata Nui. The setting for the first few years of Bionicle...gone in seconds.
well as tony wedgwood says there is no going back... Reboot the bionicle universe or surrender
Praise mata nui our great spirit
All ends are merely beginnings Waiting To unfold
I wish reaction vids were a thing back then so I could see people's faces when this happened.
THE GREAT SPIRIT HAS RETURNED! And also destroyed the entire island his followers lived on lol
they abandoned the island by now and migrated back to Metru Nui, and Toa released Bohroks to cleanse the island of life in preparation for Mata Nui's awakening
Sweet nostalgic memories...
WOW thanks for uploading this
