    I ❤️ my suburban..I’ve got that same set up only it’s a arb awning, the rack is full size, I just put renogy 400 watts of solar on the roof, 3 panel cover the rack and opens like a lid, the 4th is 5 inches over the sun roof. 3k inverter , 200 amp hrs. That same 12v stuff you have. Got a frig/freezer. Shower microwave.. it just gets out of hand. Your truck is prettier than mine. 2005 but I’m from Wisconsin and rust is just part of the world here.

    I recently viewed online a review of the Toyota "Tacozilla" RV showcased at the 2021 SEMA car show. It got me salivating to modify my wife's beater 1999 Chevy Suburban K1500. But unlike yours in this video, I'm tempted to remove the back doors, extend the rear about four feet beyond the rear bumpers with a single door egress, forming a rear foyer with a vaulted ceiling, and adding a second story bedroom with raising roof that runs the length of the vehicle. It would have a separate HVAC system running from a generator. Yep, quite a project.
    For overlanding, I would keep a couple of STEEL WHEEL spare tires, because the steel is repairable in the field should it get dented, whereas the aluminum alloy OEM rim would most likely be cracked and destroyed in the event of collision with a rock or boulder. and get a gun rack. I would also recommend carrying tools to hand-mount new tires onto the rims. There's nothing more frustrating than having a flat on the trail, putting on the spare tire, and then suffering another flat on the spare tire because of the rocks slicing through the sidewalls.

    I'm the original owner of a 1995 model with the rear barn doors. I like how you used the space where the spare tire used to be for the battery and electrical hookups. I'm trying to locate an aftermarket rear bumper with a swing arm to mount the spare as opposed to putting it on the roof. Not having much luck...found one but its close to $2k. I just may have a welder friend make one up for me.

      Fabricated rear bumpers with the spare tire swing arm can be pricey

    Where/what battery did you purchase? Did it come with a battery management system? How many amp hours? Anyway, excellent design and engineering!

    • @Horizoncamperbuilds
      @Horizoncamperbuilds  4 роки тому

      The battery is custom built with 32 packs of lithium ion cells each rated at 3.7v 8ah for a total of 64ah at 14.8v

    Hello I replied to another battery question here... I’m hoping to get a quality battery system for my 02 Yukon and I’m not going on trips longer than a long weekend and not sure about battery system size...
    Right now I have a overhead DVD cell/iPad, fan and possibly a coffee maker
    What size system would you recommend?

    • @Horizoncamperbuilds
      @Horizoncamperbuilds  4 роки тому +1

      I would get a 12V 100AH AGM deep cycle battery and connect it in parallel to a car battery for backup charging if you don’t have a solar setup. I would stay away from any appliances that generate heat like a coffee maker because it will deplete your battery quickly. Instead, I would use a portable propane stove and a French press.

      Horizon Overland thank you for the help and very quick reply. Your channel is awesome and happy to be a subscriber.
      If I was able to set up the solar panel would you then be ok with a small appliance? But i am a fan of French Press with Freshly ground coffee

    • @Horizoncamperbuilds
      @Horizoncamperbuilds  4 роки тому +1

      @@truecolorsbyvango8083 For 100AH battery, small appliances are fine as long as they don't generate heat. Heat generating appliances will wear out your battery quickly even if the solar is charging. It's all about sizing up your system (solar & battery) to see what it can handle and checking out the electric specs of each appliance you want to use.
