In 1966 I started being a frugalist from necessity, now I’m still one from joy. Never waste and you will never want. Thank you for these precious videos, they bring such comfort. ❤️❤️
I went frugal four years ago at age 58 and it totally turned my financial picture around. I'll never be rich, but I went from falling short each month to having a couple of hundred dollars available to put into retirement savings. Thanks for pinch hitting, Paul. Great job! :)
I'm 73 and just beginning to walk the frugal path. I guess it's never too late. My parents were Depression kids and I was definitely raised in a very frugal home. Unfortunately, being a teen from the 60's I became a super consumer and walked down that road. I love your channel and especially the honest non-judgemental way you encourage people to engage in a frugal lifestyle. Your ideas are practical and a lot of time fun. Thank you for keeping it real.
I’m about a year and a half into my frugal journey. As a widow on a fixed income, I find it to be a huge help. Thank you Emmy and Paul as I enjoy watching you and getting great ideas.
Another fantastic video! I try everything you share. I am new to the frugal lifestyle and love it because you both make it seems like fun. It's my twice weekly learning experience. I hope you feel better Emmy. Lucky that you have a partner who is always ready to jump in. Thanks for the great tips and recipes.
I began my frugal journey about 2 years ago when I started getting serious about planning for retirement. I worked hard and retired early from a nursing career this week at the age of 63! My condo is paid off, and my car will be paid off in January. I just found your channel and I love it! I enjoy trying new recipes and learning frugal tips. I'm all about living a simple, wholesome lifestyle. Thanks for sharing your tips with us!
I've been so busy with my own channel I haven't gotten a chance to watch you guys for a while. It was such a treat this morning to get to see you both ♥️. That bread looks so healthy and delicious! I am a seasoned frugal person debt and mortgage free also. We just paid our mortgage off this year! It is such a freeing feeling! We don't have to worry so much about the rising costs of food and electricity and such. If anybody is reading these comments, you cannot imagine how much stress you can take off your life by living frugally!
Hope you’re feeling better! My frugal journey began at 18, when I moved out. I worked hard and became a store manager by 23, and saved as much I could, being able to get my own apartment- no more roommates! I married a wonderful guy at 24 and had a baby right away. I couldn’t imagine going back to work and suddenly had to manage on an extremely low budget once again. This is the first year we’ve been comfortable financially but I’m still as frugal as possible. Your videos inspire me so much. Thank you!
Hope you'll be feeling 100% very soon, Emmy! We are "seasoned frugalists" and still enjoying the simple pleasures. Your channel is always great inspiration.
I'm disabled and on a fixed income and I started my journey a little over a year ago. I'm debt free now and learning from so many frugal people. thank you
Well done, Paul! Glad you felt well enough to join in too, Emmy! Your sickness reminded me that a frugal idea is for all of us to check our cold and flu meds/remedies to make sure we have what we need before someone in our home gets hit with it. We want to avoid having to run to the store and buy whatever is left on the shelf! That happened to me one year, so now I try to take stock and purchase early in the fall so that we have what we need in advance. As for my frugal journey...I was born into it. My parents have always had to mind their money, so I grew up learning this skill from them. And now that John and I are 5-7 years from retirement, I am even more diligent about frugality. Frugality is a fun game, I think! Our son over-did his microwave popcorn a little bit the other night (it's a special popper we use in the microwave with raw popcorn kernels and a bit of olive oil,) and I asked him if he was still going to eat it. He said that he was going to put on his Pioneer spirit and eat it anyway, so he wouldn't waste it! Haha! His frugality genes are showing!
I feel the same as your thinking “frugality is a fun game” and I learned it from this channel. Cute expression on “Pioneer” frugal spirit, a lovely virtue that runs in the family.
My frugal journey started at a very young age! Remembering my mother HAVING to grocery shop on payday because hardly anything left in pantry- as a young adult on my own I always tried to stock my pantry each payday so I would have food security! My mom did the best she could because my brother and I never went hungry❤️ She now also has a stocked pantry. We all feel blessed but we remember those lean days! Hope you feel better soon and I can’t wait to get me some apples to try that recipe out!!
Good job, Paul! The bread looks delicious! Hope you're feeling better, Emmy! My husband and I have been frugal all our lives. We've been made fun of by family members, but we are reaping the benefits in our retirement. Our children and their spouses are seeing the benefits of being careful with money and resources, especially during these tough times. I enjoy watching your channel for your tips and because it helps us to know we're not the only ones with this type of lifestyle.
I love being a frugalist! It is so rewarding to be able to reach a financial goal. Emmie, hope you are feeling better soon. Paul, you did a great job helping with the cooking today.
Praying that you feel better soon Emmy! I get so much from your encouragement and tips. I've been frugal at different stages of life and not so much at other times (but should have been!). Autumn is such a beautiful time of year and my favorite season. Don't need much money to enjoy the crisp, colorful weather and scenery and the fall comfort foods. The bread and the squash recipes are both keepers! Can't wait to try them this way. Thank you so much for all you share!!! 💕🙏
I hope you’re feeling better! Paul is a good pinch hitter! I have to start by saying that I made the pumpkin cake that you recommended and it was fantastic! I have always been a casual frugalist but in the past year I have become an intentional frugalist! I’m more mindful of how I spend, what I buy and how I use things. It makes a big difference. That apple bread looks fabulous!
My frugal journey started 20 years ago at a time of my life when it was out of necessity. My situation changed and got off the path for a bit, but approaching retirement has led me back to it. Your videos are super inspiring!
I switched to a frugal lifestyle in the 1990s, right before I married and started a family, when I read "The Tightwad Gazette" newsletters and books. My frugal ways enabled me to stay at home with my two kids when they were small, then work part-time while my spouse worked full-time. One strategy was buying as much pre-owned for us and the kids as possible, and paying more principle each year on our home mortgage. We paid off the mortgage when our first was a high school sophomore. We are debt-free and mortgage-free, and we still live below our means.
We are seasoned frugalists! We became frugal when our son was born 21 years ago so I could be a stay at home mom. The best decision we ever made! It allowed me to stay home for 13 years, and then I only worked part time so I could always be there for him and his school activities. We followed Dave Ramsey and became debt free including our house! Our son is a senior in college and we have put him through school and he will graduate with no debt. We aren't wealthy, but are very mindful of how we spend our money. I'm really enjoying your videos and I hope you are feeling better! The bread looks delicious!
Omg! Paul cracked me up..I needed a laugh today and he provided it.. what a cook! Feel better soon Emmy! I hit the like button before I even finished watching.. you two are a blessing to us all.
Hello Emmy and Paul, I have been frugal off and on my entire life. But seriously frugal since Covid started. We both contracted covid/pneumonia/Bronchitis in Nov 21. My husband was in 2 different hospitals while on the ventilator. He survived, Thank God, so did I. We have since been dealing with all the medical bills. So being frugal pays off. And now with the high prices of groceries, we will stay frugal. We are cooking at home, hand washing our clothes and hanging them out to dry on the line, among other things. I love your channel. The Apple Bread looks delicious. I don't know what next year will bring. Being frugal helps so much. Peace and Love
I had a calling to leave the private sector. I began teaching vocational education to high school students. My salary in the public lector was less then half of what is was.... I had to learn frugal fast! This was over 10 years ago, with time my salary in now comparable to what is was. The need for frugality is no longer there. I continue to be frugal all these years later, in my journey I learned that we waste so much. Thanks to my frugal living I am financially stable and not afraid of any looming recession or inflation. The motto “ living to impress no one” is why I love your channel. At times I may entertain a “new” whatever. Then I watch your and Paul... all is well with the world❤ Thank you for your continued inspiration. Side note: red onion and cinnamon tea with honey, will help you feel better.
QOTD: Our family 'went frugal' in 2012 when we faced a job loss. My husband's place of employment closed and we knew he'd have to travel for work and earn less money. I decided to face our predicament with dignity and I began studying frugal living like it was a college course. I feel that, after all this time, I am a fairly seasoned frugalista. ; ) I will say, however, that I've gotten col on some of my frugality at times and 'the way things are now' has brought me back to full-fledged frugality. I'm watching the utility bills, learning to shop more frugally (this is where I've been the most lax because we are foodies and enjoy quality, good food!), and I'm trying to get organized and cut back on costs wherever I can. I hope you're feeling much better, Emmy! And Paul--I'm going to make that acorn squash recipe--maybe tonight!
Feel better soon Emmy. I've been frugal for 31 years. The Tightwad Gazette helped me on my journey. I love being frugal so I have money to do the things I want.
I was raised by children of the Depression and have always lived a frugal lifestyle, even in times of higher income. One of the benefits people sometimes forget is that frugality allows you to SPEND on the things that really matter to you!
I could say that I learned frugality from my Grandmother as a very young child. She taught me the most important differences between being frugal and being miserly. For example, one of my cousins thought she could slip something past Granny, but low and behold, Granny called her on the carpet. It was one of the holidays and one of the family brought a premium ham bone-in and one other relative asked if she could have the bone. Now Granny caught this forthwith, and challenged, "And what are you going to do with the bone, pray tell?" (This is a polite translation of what she actually said in French.) And the response was, "Gina, cassoulet, of course." And Granny said, "Splendid. We will have two feasts in two weeks, because {cousin} will provide us all with cassoulet and bread." And when my cousin backed away from that, I learned a big lesson between being frugal and "cost shifting" which is being miserly. With Granny, nothing ever went to waste, which is frugal, but she was always generous, as well, which is the antipathy of miserly. This is such an important difference. To this day, I save peelings and suchlike for vegetable broth which gives such wonderful flavor to many things, but I also make a monthly contribution to the food bank and other charities. It's a delicate balance. I understand about those barely clinging to the edge of poverty, but past that, understand that the few dollars that you can contribute can have amazing leverage. I can't wait to try your acorn squash recipe, and I am getting ready to make a big pot of butternut squash soup for my family as well. Take care.
Emmy feel better soon! 🥰 Paul, great job, Julia Child would be proud!! 👍Thank you for the super recipes,I try everything you make, so far no fails!! Started my Frugal journey almost 3 years ago, at 62!!! Really enjoy and learn from your videos every week. You're inspiration keeps me motivated!! It's doable at any age. 🥰💕
Paul did an amazing job !!! Y’all are such a barrel of fun !!!! Apple bread looks so good too! Love you both ! Hope you feel better soon, Emmy ! God bless y’all ❤️
I am 36 years old, living in Romania and I have always been a practical frugal. But in the last 2 years, once I matured, I started to enjoy more this way of living and I have become more confident about my frugality.
You two make such a wonderful team. A joy to watch. I hope some of the younger generation that may watch your videos see what a marriage should be like and choose wisely. Can't wait to try the recipes, especially the acorn squash in the crockpot. I'm trying to be frugal since I am on social security and having trouble making ends meet. You would think by now I would be better at a lot of things in life. So I keep watching and learning!
Frugal for many years but especially during the last three. Knowing I have skills that will help sustain my family in difficult times brings me confidence and I love the creativity that comes with frugality. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Emmy and well done Paul (a star is born 😄) xx
I'm 35 yrs in my frugality. Prior to that my Mom raised me very frugal...out of necessity. I really don't know any other way to live. And now it's become a fun challenge. This month I turned the power off to my barn at the panel box. Only turned it when I absolutely needed it. Received my bill today and I dropped the bill by $30. I only used $1.50 worth of electricity for the month of September. And it put zero inconvenience for me. 💰 🤑 💸
Seasoned Frugalist here! (Love that term) I was raised in a very frugal family and have practiced frugality on various levels through out my life. Now, nearing retirement, I have turned it all the way up to 11. I'm also trying to help my young co-worker on her frugal journey as well.
For me it changed one night after reading a small book the very easily explained compound interest. The workings of it for you, but also against you. That changed our financial lives!!! Coming from a background where money was always something to worry about and never fully understanding it, this book was the beginning of a self education time. That was probably 1985.
Hi, Emmy and Paul. I was cleaning my garage and ready for a break when I got the notification for this video. Loved this. The apple bread looks delicious. I’ve always had a frugal streak (from depression era parents) and I love a good bargain. I’ve realized in recent years that something isn’t a bargain if I don’t use it or can’t find it when I need it. That has helped me buy and spend less. I hope you’ll feel better quickly.
Hi Emmy and Paul,I hope you are better now, drink lots of hot water, best frugal medicine for soar throat and do gargles.I have been frugal now for the past 33 years immediately after I got married,Money was never a problem but I didnot want to fall to a situation where I was caught falling short.I never shop even for grocery without asking myself if it is a need or want, impulse buying and keep postponing till it is absolute need. This way ,all thanks to God for giving me courage to follow a frugal path ,very difficult to live in a society where frugal practices are considered miserly ways of living. love to you three, take care.
I was always the one in my family who was frugal...had to be to stay home with a special needs child...the rest of the family called me cheap..now they call me for advice on saving money..😁
Instead of buying so much potting mix next spring to start our plants, we are keeping the dirt our marigolds grew in. We threw it in the sifted compost and stirred it. Should be high powered potting mix. Have spent probably $30 for the last few years on potting mix and our own mix will do just as good for free! We are still learning!
I’ve been practicing frugality since the start of the pandemic and am never going back. I’ve never been ostentatious w/ money but I did get myself into debt by people pleasing and putting the needs and wants of others before my own and not being able to say no to spending for dinners out or things like that because I was afraid of not being liked or accepted. Well, those days have been over for a long time and I call myself a recovering people pleaser as I have to put in lots of work to not revert to those old patterns. I had already started work on digging myself out of debt but during the start of the pandemic I put even more emphasis on living simply, experiences over things and having a good peer group who honor my commitment to my frugal lifestyle and who accept me for me. It’s embarrassing to admit I used to allow people pleasing to rule my life but w/ a lot of work, that is no longer the case and my financial situation keeps improving the more I honor my new lifestyle choices. It’s wonderful and I thank you and Paul for all the encouragement in your videos. Paul did a great job helping to cook and I hope you feel better, Emmy. Take good care.
Both those recipes look delicious. I love squash, and really stocked up a few weeks ago when I found them for 50 cents a lb. I have been frugal for years. It started out of necessity. I was a sahm of 4 very active kids, so to afford their activities we had no choice but to cut corners everywhere we could. I continue the lifestyle now even though we don’t have to. That’s not to say we don’t treat ourselves to a few things we could never afford when the kids were home, because we do now and then. Dh and like to say “we are worth it”. We weren’t worth it for years-the kids were lol.
Having grown up in ‘poor’ family, I know how to be frugal and save. Having said that, at 74 my frugal journey has had its ups and downs. We are retired and wherever I can I like to save. That squash looked yummy, but I’d use just the sugar or syrup, not both! 😊
I been living this life style in 2007 when we retied and move up north in Michigan on 2 1/2 areas in the wood, We heat with wood but had back up heat too. Plant gardens every year had chickens bought meat stock up every November and only went to the store for milk and maybe few treats I couldn't make. lol I miss our old place but were in season ofbeing close to 80's and just coulkd keep that place going. I know the couple who bought are retiring in 2 years and I hope they will enjoy that place like we did.
One big eye opener for this newbie frugalist is, the amount of TIME needed to upkeep. For example, refreshing last year's winter coat, includes button sewing, lint removal and steaming. Need to remember that some things take more time.
I have always lived a frugal lifestyle! My Grand Parents were examples of that way of life! Why send more?! When do you, not have to?! It is nice buffer to have! Sometimes you are able to help others without it costing anything but your time! Good Luck and God- Bless! P.S. Emmy, I hope you feel better real soon! You both be safe!
I somehow missed this video. Thank you for the acorn squash recipe. I have never made it before and this looks easy. What could you use if you don't have an actual composter? Any frugal friends have ideas? I didn't become more serious about being frugal until 2016. I started listening to a Christian based financial program. I began implementing the things I was learning. I'm sorry to say, I was not a good steward with money for many years. I actually apologized to my husband for how bad I was. I am much better now, and am still always learning! I'm so thankful for your channel, because you both are a blessing to so many people!
Paul did such a great job filling in for Emmy! He has a knack for demonstrating things and explaining in a way that's easy to understand. I don't know if "infiltrate" is a cooking term but it definitely gets the point across.
My mom had that yellow bowl! One afternoon when I was about 13, I decided to make chocolate chip cookies. It was a cool day, Soooo I put the cold butter into her bowl and turned the burner on low to speed the creaming. Scurrying around collecting the other ingredients, I heard a popping noise.... Whoops!!! My dear mother was very understanding.
As a former resident of upstate NY (I grew up in the Hudson Valley), I am impressed that you two can live frugally where costs are so high! We moved to Washington state, where it's much easier to be frugal. Still, I learn a lot from you...and love your recipes!
Hi Emmy/ Paul: So sorry you are not well often people get sick with the change of seasons, I am one of them;) I started my frugal journey when the Real Estate market crashed in 2005 and I was laid off. After the initial shock I found I liked the lifestyle and continue to this day. Why pay full price when you can get it cheaper and Use or save the money for something else;)
Just a newbie "frugalist" ☺️ Our first frugal date was home made sandwiches eaten at the marina. Then went for a short walk on the boardwalk during the sunset. Frugal is fun!
I’m 54 years old. And I’ve lived frugally all my life. My mom and her family canned, froze food and made jellies. My mom made alot of my clothes when I was growing up.
I am 46 and I have always been frugal I had my 1st kid at 17 and I had to make every penny count there was a great program in the community that was once a month That showed you how to shop and save money I we received food stamps and was able to feed my kids and have extra food to feed others families that were my neighbors my grandmother also showed me how to stretch and save and cook for leftovers one of my kids favorite things I make is the easy peach cobbler I learned to make in the community class I would recommend anyone to look up your local Cooperative Extension program I had fun and learned a lot 😀
Grew up in a great home (both parents working professionals) who passed on the lessons they learned living through the Great Depression and WW2. Think because my parents made saving money a game not a dreaded activity, has made living a contented less is more lifestyle easier. Especially in these challenging times, as a widow. Be debt free, live below ones means, hope for the best plan for the worst, save for the future. Know a need from a want. And create a good support system and create a community of likeminded folks. Sadly, in the last 20 years as a society, Americans have become more me me me, and less we we we.
Get well very soon, Emmy and great job, Paul. I appreciate how Paul “mothered” us with the squash. My husband and I are both seasoned frugalists and am glad for that now more than ever. Thank you both for your great attitude and reminding me we will get through this.
Hi,love you guys! Last week I found several packages of tomatoes on the clearance shelf at my grocery store ,I bought about 5 or 6 pks. With them image my own tomorrow sauce ever using fresh tomatoes, I usually use tomato puree,or jared sauce ,which I doctor up making it my own, but let me tell you my sauce came out delicious, I got 4 jars when all done, first meal I made spaghetti with my sauce but added hamburger ect ,,like I would a jar ..then the next day I made 3 bean chili with a bed of rice using two jars of my sauce..then yesterday using the left over bean chili I made a cabbage soup ,adding potatoes chorizo, and broth and a cabbage that needed cooking...I still have a small jar of sauce ,which I think I'll make chicken parm....its just me and my 92 year old aunt that I feed whatever make...I made tree meals with that sauce.....and going on one more...I'm so proud of my homemade sauce
Good afternoon Emmy and Paul..... Haven't finished the video yet but wanted to say, I love your videos. Thank you. I know it must be a lot of work to make these for us. I'm a moderate frugal person ... More and more each day. And I'm trying to teach my kids how to be frugal too.
I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well. I pray you're better very soon. What a blessing to have Paul as your sidekick and helper. He was great. I will certainly try that bread recipe. It would be great with walnuts or pecans.
i'm still working on my frugality... i know what the do but sometimes i'm tempted by thing at the grocery store or i'm tired and i just want to order a pizza or something like that... it doesn't help that my husband is not really on board with the frugal life. he thinks that it's a good idea but then spend a lot of money on little things that he doesn't even thinks about, like snack and things like that... It's a process, and i know that eventually we will turn around and be able to frugal and save money so we can spend money on things that we really want/enjoy...
Hope you get better soon! Paul did a fab job with the video and thank you for the composting tips. I emptied my containers last week and did exactly what Paul suggested with the potting soil. I wasn’t sure if that was the correct thing to do but now I know. Always enjoy your videos!
I was raised from an early age with a very frugal set of parents. My dad's health issues kept them low income all their lives, and seeing this caused me to look at money differently than most. I have been extremely frugal all my adult life, trying to avoid loans, credit cards and debt. I paid off my house early, pay cash for my vehicles and spend money as wisely as possible. We live an abundant life, and have financial security. I love watching Paul in the kitchen, especially when he was going to cut the bread or when he added the maple syrup. Great job Paul. Praying for a speedy recovery Emmy. Colds are miserable.
Answer: I think I've been frugal almost my whole life (late 20's on)....a great way to stretch your monies! :) Feel better, Emmy! Good job, Paul! :) and blessings to yours out there in NY! Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN : )
I have started to compost more or less like this this year for the first time. I have several big and medium pots in which I grow tomatoes, green beans, potatoes sometimes etc.. . I empty the big pot in small pots and as I add layers of compost in the big pot I cover with a layer of soil (and I cover with another pot that has my strawberry plants so the neighbour's cat does not come in the big pot.)..We shall see if my pot garden is even better next year ...
We a re a retired couple in our 80's . over the past 2 years I have become more and more conscious of living a frugal life style. I have learned so much from your channel and I enjoy watching the two of you. Thank you for your videos
The apple raisin bread looked so good. Praying for you Emmy to feel all the way better soon 💙 We love all the squashes and I have never done one in the crock pot 😋 yum I feel like I am maybe in the moderate stage of frugality 🙂
In 1966 I started being a frugalist from necessity, now I’m still one from joy. Never waste and you will never want. Thank you for these precious videos, they bring such comfort. ❤️❤️
Thank you for the kind words Edith!
I went frugal four years ago at age 58 and it totally turned my financial picture around. I'll never be rich, but I went from falling short each month to having a couple of hundred dollars available to put into retirement savings.
Thanks for pinch hitting, Paul. Great job! :)
That is wonderful Paula!
Nadine so happy you have joined us! Thanks so much for watching and sharing
Thank you both so much!
Thanks so much! So happy you found us Sabrina! Welcome!
Yes, you are absolutely right!
Hope you’re feeling better! My frugal journey began at 18, when I moved out. Your videos inspire me so much. Thank you!
So happy our videos are encouraging Colleen! Thank you!
Hope you'll be feeling 100% very soon, Emmy! We are "seasoned frugalists" and still enjoying the simple pleasures. Your channel is always great inspiration.
Thanks so very much! Appreciate that!
I'm disabled and on a fixed income and I started my journey a little over a year ago. I'm debt free now and learning from so many frugal people. thank you
Thanks so much for sharing Melanie!

LOL! Love that! I actually adore burnt popcorn! Weird I know!

Great comment Mary! Thank you!
Good for you all! Thank you!
Hello! All set for another great video ❤
Feel better soon.
Thanks so much!
I love being a frugalist! It is so rewarding to be able to reach a financial goal. Emmie, hope you are feeling better soon. Paul, you did a great job helping with the cooking today.
Yes! Thank you!
I LOVE AUTUMN AND hope to try these recipes xxx Thank you xxx
Praying that you feel better soon Emmy! I get so much from your encouragement and tips. I've been frugal at different stages of life and not so much at other times (but should have been!). Autumn is such a beautiful time of year and my favorite season. Don't need much money to enjoy the crisp, colorful weather and scenery and the fall comfort foods. The bread and the squash recipes are both keepers! Can't wait to try them this way. Thank you so much for all you share!!! 💕🙏
Lulu thank you for your kind comment!
My husband and I have two kids and enjoy being frugal. We don't need to, but it's fun. We are 100% debt free and live happily below our means.
Love that! Thanks for sharing!
So true!! Thanks Lori for sharing!
My frugal journey started 20 years ago at a time of my life when it was out of necessity. My situation changed and got off the path for a bit, but approaching retirement has led me back to it. Your videos are super inspiring!
That's great! Thank you!
Love that Mary! Thanks for sharing!
That is so wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
Omg! Paul cracked me up..I needed a laugh today and he provided it.. what a cook! Feel better soon Emmy! I hit the like button before I even finished watching.. you two are a blessing to us all.
I ALWAYS hit the like-button before watching.😊
Sabrina THANK YOU! You are the best!
Karen thanks so very much! Isn't he too funny! He's a professional LOL!
Oh my Cathy! I am so sorry you both had to go through all that! Thank God you are both okay!! Thanks so much for sharing!
Then I watch your and Paul... all is well with the world❤
Thank you for your continued inspiration.
Side note: red onion and cinnamon tea with honey, will help you feel better.
What a wonderful comment Lisa! Thank you so much for sharing!!
I've been a frugalist for about 10 years or so now. I'm still learning and I learn from you two twice a week.
Feel better, Emmy!
Barbara thank you!
Thanks so much for sharing your frugal journey!
Feel better soon Emmy. I've been frugal for 31 years. The Tightwad Gazette helped me on my journey. I love being frugal so I have money to do the things I want.
That's us too! Thanks for sharing!
I was raised by children of the Depression and have always lived a frugal lifestyle, even in times of higher income. One of the benefits people sometimes forget is that frugality allows you to SPEND on the things that really matter to you!
YES!! I am constantly stressing that!
Been frugal my entire life. I am still learning so much.
We all are Becky!
Take care.
So well said! Exactly right! Granny was a wise woman!
Hope you feel better soon Emmy!

God bless y’all ❤️
Thanks so much for the kind comment! God bless you as well
Paul is a renaissance man. Is there something he can't do? You are such a lovely couple. God bless you.
Oh Glenda thank you! God bless you and yours as well!
I am 36 years old, living in Romania and I have always been a practical frugal. But in the last 2 years, once I matured, I started to enjoy more this way of living and I have become more confident about my frugality.
That is absolutely wonderful Arina!
Patricia thanks for sharing and the kind words!
Seasoned frugalist. Amazed to still be finding new frugalist stuff I didn't know about! Living comfortably because of my frugalisticness.
That's the best! Thanks!
Frugal for many years but especially during the last three. Knowing I have skills that will help sustain my family in difficult times brings me confidence and I love the creativity that comes with frugality. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Emmy and well done Paul (a star is born 😄) xx
Petra thank you so much!
That is amazing! Good for you!
Love having Paul do the cooking….but must admit I MISS you Emmy teaching us frugal cooking!
LOL! He did an awesome job!
Seasoned Frugalist here! (Love that term) I was raised in a very frugal family and have practiced frugality on various levels through out my life. Now, nearing retirement, I have turned it all the way up to 11. I'm also trying to help my young co-worker on her frugal journey as well.
That's wonderful that you are sharing your frugal knowledge!
For me it changed one night after reading a small book the very easily explained compound interest. The workings of it for you, but also against you. That changed our financial lives!!! Coming from a background where money was always something to worry about and never fully understanding it, this book was the beginning of a self education time.
That was probably 1985.
That's great Mary!
Thanks so much Jeanne!
I love all the tips on your channel.
Thanks Christine!
You have such a wonderful attitude Deepa! Thank you! Love to you as well!
I have a toaster oven that I do most of my baking in. I also use a rice cooker a lot for various recipes.
Yes! I love my toaster oven. I really can do a lot in it ❤
I was always the one in my family who was frugal...had to be to stay home with a special needs child...the rest of the family called me cheap..now they call me for advice on saving money..😁
Bet the bread would be good with half raisins, half dried cranberries..
Thanks so much for sharing!
I have always been as frugal as I can, but allow myself a splurge when Ineed to. But I always find something here, thank you.
Us too Paula! Thanks!
Yes! That's great!
Gretchen, you are doing great!! We all people please at times, you are not alone! We are doing a video on a similar topic on Fridays video.
I am a 54 year old widow five adult daughter on a pension fruguality is my lifestyle thank you Emmy. Xx please get well soon
Thank you Kerry!
So true Diane! Love that!
Having grown up in ‘poor’ family, I know how to be frugal and save. Having said that, at 74 my frugal journey has had its ups and downs. We are retired and wherever I can I like to save. That squash looked yummy, but I’d use just the sugar or syrup, not both! 😊
Me too Linda but Paul was cooking LOL!!
I hope you get well quickly, Tell Paul he did a great Job helping you! Get well soon.
Thanks Diana!
SO smart to make the move now! I'm sure they will love your home!
One big eye opener for this newbie frugalist is, the amount of TIME needed to upkeep. For example, refreshing last year's winter coat, includes button sewing, lint removal and steaming. Need to remember that some things take more time.
Yes, it's a bit more time but you save so much more money!
Thanks so very much Karen!
Thanks so much Renee! So happy you are on your frugal journey!
Paul did such a great job filling in for Emmy! He has a knack for demonstrating things and explaining in a way that's easy to understand. I don't know if "infiltrate" is a cooking term but it definitely gets the point across.
LOL! Thanks!
Oh no! I'm sure your mom knew you were just trying to help!
Thank you Emmy and Paul.
Paul a sterling job indeed.
Get well soon Emmy🙏🏿
Thanks so much Tracy!
As a former resident of upstate NY (I grew up in the Hudson Valley), I am impressed that you two can live frugally where costs are so high! We moved to Washington state, where it's much easier to be frugal. Still, I learn a lot from you...and love your recipes!
Yes, we are blessed to be able to retire here!
Bless You Emmy Hope You Soon Feel A lot Better 💐
Thank you so very much!
Hi Emmy/ Paul:
So sorry you are not well often people get sick with the change of seasons, I am one of them;) I started my frugal journey when the Real Estate market crashed in 2005 and I was laid off. After the initial shock I found I liked the lifestyle and continue to this day. Why pay full price when you can get it cheaper and Use or save the money for something else;)
Couldn't agree more Lori!
Just a newbie "frugalist" ☺️
Our first frugal date was home made sandwiches eaten at the marina. Then went for a short walk on the boardwalk during the sunset. Frugal is fun!
That is awesome! YES! Frugal is beyond fun!
Go Paul….yay! Thank you both for your dedication to us, your frugal clan….🤗
Always!!!
I’m 54 years old. And I’ve lived frugally all my life. My mom and her family canned, froze food and made jellies. My mom made alot of my clothes when I was growing up.
That is wonderful Cherry!
I love your channel. Watching you all encourages me and I ‘ve learned alot from you. Thank You.
Such a great informative comment Deanna! Thank you for sharing!
You are welcome 😊I enjoy your videos
I’ve been frugal all my life and love learning new ways to be frugal. Life throws curves, and it’s best to be prepared financially.
Absolutely Judith! So true!
Get well soon, my dear!
My Momma had that tablecloth when I was little!
My grandson will eat acorn squash for breakfast!
Love it!! It's so yummy! thank you!
Well said Beth!
Praying for your, Emmy. Get well soon.
Thanks so very much Jewel!
Get well very soon, Emmy and great job, Paul. I appreciate how Paul “mothered” us with the squash. My husband and I are both seasoned frugalists and am glad for that now more than ever. Thank you both for your great attitude and reminding me we will get through this.
Yes! We absolutely will get through this! I think my mothering rubbed off on Paul lol!
YAY! Tanya that is so wonderful! Good for you!
That's wonderful! thank you!
WOW, that squash looks
ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS 👍🏼
So good!
I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well. I pray you're better very soon.
What a blessing to have Paul as your sidekick and helper. He was great.
I will certainly try that bread recipe. It would be great with walnuts or pecans.
Thanks so much Sheila!
Thank God I am now a frugual person with the state of economy and reaping benefits discipline contentment financial freedom
Yes, so true Kerry!
i'm still working on my frugality... i know what the do but sometimes i'm tempted by thing at the grocery store or i'm tired and i just want to order a pizza or something like that... it doesn't help that my husband is not really on board with the frugal life. he thinks that it's a good idea but then spend a lot of money on little things that he doesn't even thinks about, like snack and things like that...
It's a process, and i know that eventually we will turn around and be able to frugal and save money so we can spend money on things that we really want/enjoy...
You said it correctly...it's a process! Baby steps...you should be around of any frugal changes no matter how small!
I hope you feel better soon. Thank you for your videos. I enjoy them and learn from them. God bless you and Paul.
Thank you Virginia! God bless you as well!
I shred my junk mail and add it to my compost bin as well. It helps me to triple the amount of compost that I make.
Great idea Elizabeth!
Hope you get better soon! Paul did a fab job with the video and thank you for the composting tips. I emptied my containers last week and did exactly what Paul suggested with the potting soil. I wasn’t sure if that was the correct thing to do but now I know. Always enjoy your videos!
Wonderful! Thanks Sandra!
Thanks so much for sharing and the kind words Sally!
Answer: I think I've been frugal almost my whole life (late 20's on)....a great way to stretch your monies! :) Feel better, Emmy! Good job, Paul! :) and blessings to yours out there in NY! Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN : )
Thanks Dawn! Blessings right back!
I still have many squash tucked away in the cellar from our garden and we need to get them eaten up. This recipe is fabulous, thank you! 💕

Thanks Angela!
Fantastic opening to this video you nailed it.
Thanks Paige! It's the truth!
Feel better soon Emmie! Awesome dinner and dessert Paul & Emmy! 🙏💕
Thanks Vickie!
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing!
We a re a retired couple in our 80's . over the past 2 years I have become more and more conscious of living a frugal life style. I have learned so much from your channel and I enjoy watching the two of you. Thank you for your videos
