That black smoke on take-off reminded me of the great Concord. Impressive doesn't even begin to describe it. Enjoy - and congrats to Chaz on his intellect.
Now to straight pipe it and get the customary “dirty diesel” sticker and you’re done ✅ Do love an L series, such an underrated engine and often overlooked
As the current owner of project stuart, this was the first "mod" I'd done! such a great quality of life change you feel you've actually half a chance when pulling out of juntions and overtaking. Chaz really is diesel jesus!
I used to have a Rover 45 ixl td that bombed along very well and always impressed my passengers when i climed hills with ease in 5th gear.Perhaps it had already been remaped before i had it! Enjoyable video, thanks Paul..
Please say we will still get the video where you clean an expansion bottle. Isn’t it funny how things turn out, footballers used to become pub landlords or insurance salesmen in the 80s, now members of 80s bands like Chas Smash out of Madness repair Rover ECU units. I’m no expert in this field, are ECUs often located in the engine bay on cars or is it a Rover peculiarity? I know they’re in those sealed cases but sticking it in the engine bay with it’s wide temperature variation and so close to a big box of acid seems less than ideal. Now all Eric needs is a wide arch body kit, big wheels with stretched tyres and neon under glow lighting to go with his new found agility. There’s a guy who works in the petrol station who’s doing that to his BMW 1 Series. He’s got as far as gluing the body kit to it, but not colouring it in or making the wheels fit so it looks a bit silly. It amuses me. Nice to see Nigel briefly. Can we see the fish again?
Niiiiiice.......My V6 Ford has just over 140bhp, and considering it's a pretty big car with an auto 'box, it does OK. Roughly 140bhp with diesel torque in a small car must be real fun.
The K series responds well to a remap aswell. I’ve had my ZR 1.4 remapped by Kmaps and the difference is incredible for a N/A 1.4 engine. It should be around 120-125hp now and is much nicer to drive. It’d be interesting to see you get Nigel mapped and do a comparison video
Eh up Tom. I'm Intrigued by how your NA 1.4 got remapped. Just what power increase did the tuner give? NA engines I've been led to believe don't bode well to tuning as at best only around 5bhp extra may be possible.
@syd snott The 1.4 was pretty heavily restricted to 105 hp so that it didn't steal sales from the 1.8 120 models. It also improves the low down driveability of the 1.4 aswell
Yes Tom I know it was heavily restricted. My question was what increase in power did your remap produce? Was it a generic map or dedicated? I'm intrigued as I'm looking for a remap for my NA 2.5 V6.
@syd snott It was done at a car show by KMAPs he was an ex rover engineer he was talking about when the Z cars were just concept cars. De restricted the k series is probably 115ish hp then with the mapping takes it to 120/125. I'm not sure if he does the KV6 but definitely worth messaging his Facebook page and checking
I have seen a few tuned L series engine's I have a freind who has done it for me in the Past. I have all my Audis tuned by a good freind FADR He lives in Stafford a very nice man. I went for the tune for fuel economy and by heck it don't half help I get around 60 mpg it's really good. I hope you notice a good differences with fuel as you don't have to push the pedal as hard.👍
Well what a good find. Since I've been away from Rover cars for about 13 years things have moved on regards tuning. When I had my ZT diesel back in 2006 it was recommended c/o the 75/ZT owners club members to get the RonBox and blank the EGR. I duly did just that. WOW what a difference. I felt like a dog with two dicks. Loved it on the highest setting and laughing when I booted it and watched the plumes of black smoke lol. It never failed MOT'S which was good. The only other car I had tuned was a 2.0l Mondeo 2008 vintage. 140bhp it had but felt sluggish. After reading a post on the TalkFord forum I duly went to Sheffield for a remap and decat. Oh my golly gosh. What a difference. Again I felt like a dog with two dicks. According to a rolling road after 3 runs on it the results showed my car had 140bhp At The Wheels or 172 on the crank. Did I let my insurance know? Bollox I did. My car still had 140bhp nudge nudge wink wink. A clean of Eric's EGR would do wonders Mr Mustard. Bigger better Injectors fitted and my word you'll need oxygen when you floor it. That's a ruddy bargain for a remapped ECU. Ruddy bargain.
I'm intrigued how Chaz remapped the MAF out of the ECU. I've experienced faulty MAF's and boy how it makes a car run rough. That garage next door to you. Do they have the gas analyser used in MOT's? If so ask to use it with MAF plugged in and out to see if there's a difference. So you know before Eric's next MOT.
It's probably a gain of power over longevity of the engine and turbo etc...will you really save fuel after this? I'm not convinced, as it probably needs more fuel to be injected. but if you look after a little boost it is great
@Scott Carr it drops the 0-60 to 7ish seconds.. basically as quick as a zr160.. But not after 70/80ish.. but yes. Makes it a quick little car @Nigel they have shot up in price now and most need a decent clean now because they are all over 20 years old.
You are very welcome Paul, pleasure doing business, enjoy!😎
I most definitely will enjoy it. Thank you 😊
@CJLTuning I have a project for you to help me with

I won't forget about the expansion bottle, and yes the fish may be on display again soon
A nice new panel filter just standard , and a tank of V power or the equivalent
Good suggestion

I am going to plug the MAF back in between some of these jobs so that I don't get too used to the extra power 😁
