    Great theory, I especially like the idea that Luke can't open the temple without an apprentice.

      thanks yea I just re-watched rebels season 2 again and noticed the same thing happened at a sith temple, it took a master an apprentice to open it as well. Essentially Maul had been waiting there the whole time for someone to come along and help him open up the temple.

      I completely agree with the part that he was waiting for Rey, he knows she would come when she is ready, and that is the reason why Lor San Tekka had a piece of the map and was on Jakku

      Yeah I like that theory too. I also wanted to mention the possibility that there is a strong darkside nexus on the planet that Luke is currently residing on. Similar to dagobah , which had that cave that allowed Yoda to hide his Light side force signature from the Emperor. The current planet that Luke is on must have something similar on it as we all suspect that Snoke is at least equivalent in power of the dark side as Palpatine was.. and otherwise should have been able to locate Luke easily without charts or maps.

      Jason, that makes a lot of sense, and in the way the newest trilogy has presented itself, I wouldn't be surprised if Luke takes Rey to a similar spot on the island where she will see visions of her origin and destiny...basically, rehashing TESB.

    The Sith Code: Peace is a lile, there is only passion; through passion, I gain strength; through strength, I gain victory; through victory, my chains are broken; The Force shall [set me free.]
    The Jedi Code: There is no emotion, there is peace; there is no ignorance, there is no knowledge; there is no passion, there is serenity; there is no chaos, there is harmony; there is no death, there is The Force.
    New Jed'ai Code? There is peace, there is also chaos; there is ignorance, there is also knowledge; There is serenity, there is also passion; there is harmony, there is also discord; there is death, and there is life; and in everything, there is The Force.

      Jedi in a nutshell: I let the force "use" me ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).
      Sith in a nutshell: I "force" the force to do my bidding (cringe pun intended).
      Jed'ai in a nutshell: I worship both light and darkness.
      Gray Jedi in a nutshell: I'm questioning the teachings and morality of the Jedi order. I'm also curious to learn the darkness.
      Gray Sith in a nutshell: I found Jedi artifacts and I'm starting to become a Jedi or become a weak Sith with morals.
      Treia/Kreia in a nutshell: I wanna destroy the force but the formless (nigh?) omnipotent sentient being known as the force is too strong.

    The grey Jedi were far more righteous than Jedi and Sith all along. They stood true to their origins despite the current order being corrupt and full of extremists. and technically speaking, you can crave power and knowledge without seeking destruction in any shape or form. Gain and loss are natural parts of life, you abondon some things to make space for another. Only a greedy pig would try to gain ownership over all territories. And though the Clone Wars era of light side practitioners praised good and all acts ''deemed'' good, they forgot the meaning of good and evil alltogether and followed in their own footsteps like a dog chasing it's tail. Palpatine was far less corrupt than the Jedi of his time, he knew of the ancient Sith order, all of their goals and their countless strategies to reach such goals. With all of that knowledge, he not only revived the Sith, but succeeded in persuading Anakin to the dark side... which, as we know, made order 66 possible and marked the end of the Jedi council.
    He not only took down one milestone, but two at the same time. Meanwhile Jedi were helplessly pretending to be crusaders of light, trying to follow their own, flawed teachings born of unacceptance, banishment and solitude of light. Which were never meant to be, considering the Force is far stronger and stable when both sides are studied regularly and explored at a moderate rate. The Jedi's restraint led to their downfall and gave the Sith all they've hoped for across centuries. The Sith's lust led to their demise, as Palpatine was too focused on crossing the boundaries of the past Sith and forming a deeper connection with the dark side of the Force that he failed to realise his downfall would be by his ever-conflicted apprentice.
    TL;DR: Too much of anything is unhealthy. Light could become a devastating force of darkness in the hands of a bad man. Darkness could be used to combat evil in the hands of a good man. Balance can only be brought by a balanced being.

    I like one of your last comments on how the Jedi and Sith ideologies and point of views on the force are way too extreme. I also agree myself.
    Although, I do think that if I were to be a Grey Jedi, I would have an empire to rule rather than a democracy in the Star Wars Universe because the Empire was actually more capable of being more stable. Although, the Galactic Empire could not keep everyone in line simply because they are led by a corrupt Sith emperor.
    An Empire that is led by a Grey Jedi and is accepted as the supreme governmental power would have been stable and not been rebelled against. Also, the Empire must be destroyed and rebuilt, meaning "it all starts here."
    You should do a video on a Grey Jedi with an empire of his or her own.

    • @GenerationTech
      @GenerationTech  7 років тому +4

      while I support democracy here on earth the more i read about star wars the more i have to agree with you. if there were a galactic government a kind dictatorship might be more efficient in the end more peaceful then a chaotic democracy. The fel empire for one had its moments

      Yesterday's Lemon Well, I would colonize a planet, train other force users, and not have a government.
      Ancaptooine won't bother you though. Both the Republic and Empire were corrupt and hurt their own people. They have too many people to function properly, in my opinion.

    Lately, I've been trying to give Rian Johnson a *tiny* bit of... understanding? I'm being generous but...
    I think he portrayed Luke, *as* George Lucas himself. Think on it a little - obviously, Luke has always been Lucas. Johnson portrayed Luke as an isolated old lunatic, living on an island (Skywalker Ranch), not really giving a squat about about legacy anyway (tossing the Anakin saber), and drinking organic milk - wanting to end the whole legacy and more or less burning it all down... then, Luke *as Luke envisions himself* [strong, etc - as Lucas *would have portrayed Luke* ] fights his final battle, and just fades away... exhausted, and no longer of use.
    Something like that... if Johnson had some kind of conflict with Lucas, and wanted to portray him - and his character - as Lucas is in real life.

  • @MrLespaul1963
    @MrLespaul1963 7 років тому

    This is something I've considered for a while, even before the title to VIII was revealed. Last fall I was considering the following:
    Balance is best achieved and maintained by having most of the weight near the center rather than on either extreme end. Anakin indeed did bring balance to the Force...not by championing the numerous, restrictive light side users, but rather by destroying them. In turn as there were only two Sith, that got taken care of by Anakin's half trained son Luke. Luke's attempt to re-establish the flawed Jedi order was dealt with by Anakin's grandson Ben.
    With the title announcement and the scuttlebutt of Luke finding an ancient Temple on Aku, I reckoned Luke would find that balanced way. So now Luke will learn from the Jed'ii who were the last truly balanced force users and train Rea with that philosophy, hence making him the last of the light side only philosophy embracing Jedi.
    I'm pleased that we think along the same lines and that you're promoting this much better way of interpreting the new title.

    I don't know WHY I did not see this before because this is brilliant. You just said what I have been wondering about for the longest time about the dark side and Jedi. There are some things I just never could quite understand and with this new installment, I am glad that I am seeing other people who have been wondering along the same lines. At least I hope I am understanding you correctly.
    As much as I liked Yoda and as wise as he was, he did not understand
    some crucial things such as maybe he needs to teach younger Jedi
    wannabes about controlling their emotions and balancing them, about why
    it is bad to give into them and how it can interfere with their mission
    in bad ways. It's like he just says "here" and gives them an M-16, live
    ammon, a magazine and tells them to go shoot. He never explained what the dark side was about, never said why or what makes it so bad, though most can guess, but from what he said, he could be describing any given holiday or family event with my family. I never got why the "dark side" was so forbidden because it was never explained adequately, hell, didn't they have ANY historical records about this "religion" they followed so carefully. Yoda was strong with the force, didn't he think it MIGHT be a good thing to know beforehand? He talks about human and other being emotions (guessing here) that people feel and expects them to suppress them without any guidance or even advice that I saw. In a way it sounded like "he whose name we do not speak" which sounds pretentious if you ask me. Come on Yoda, give us a clue here.
    You explain it very well and I like and prefer the idea of the "Grey" Jedi because sometimes in order for the good of all, people have to do things they hate and find repulsive and wish they didn't have to do. Also, sometimes in order to control and balance something within yourself, you must first embrace it, not necessarily use it or do it, but acknowledge that as beings all of us are capable of doing the most horrific things imaginable but at the same time acknowledging that we are also capable of doing the most selfless, humane and kindest things. That is the only way to know these kinds of things. Those emotions that Yoda spoke of in any extreme do not make a person feel good but they don't know that unless they can feel it at least one time because unfortunately that is also how we learn and ultimately the decision is ours to make as to the path we follow.
    Great video.

    • @GenerationTech
      @GenerationTech  7 років тому +1

      hey thanks glad you enjoyed it. Yea I really do like the jedi but as long as they exist there will be constant war between them and the sith. I really like the grey jedi theory because it kind of reflects my own views in life, I think balanced approach to things lets you really see situations in much clearer way.

    • @shannonreynolds624
      @shannonreynolds624 7 років тому

      Yea, I always thought there was something missing from the Jedi training. I thought the fight scenes with Yoda were impressive, but not all beings live to be 800 years old and not all beings in the SW universe are alike. If you look at the ST universe, it's like the Vulcans who are highly emotional but control is through logic and mathematical equations to the Romulans who are more emotional but also logical to the Klingons who are all emotions and more primitive. Don't know if you are following my analogy here. I felt that by NOT talking about it was a sure way of making sure something was going to happen.
      I do not know if this has been addressed yet, and maybe it should be. I saw your video about the origins of the Jedi, very interesting. It seems as if the Jedi evolved and changed over time like ideas seem to do. For instance, I remember when Marijuana was ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY a topic that would NEVER be considered for legalization even in the 1990s. Now it is.
      So, it kind of follows that the Jedi can also evolve into something different and probably better than it was. Luke is the last Jedi regarding the Jedi as we know it now and now the idea of the Grey Jedi is getting more popular with very few extremes with a few White and a few Dark but mostly Grey. I agree with you totally on that because it seems that when Luke wanted to go find Han and Leia in TESB, Yoda got annoyed by this as if he was doing something wrong. Hey Yoda, not everyone is as wise and old as you dude. The Jedi do some unhealthy things if you ask me. I think it would be interesting to do a longer thorough as possible or series of videos that talk about that. The Sith deal in absolutes but so does the Jedi. If kind of reflects the current political climate in the US right now, don't know if anyone noticed the parallels. This way or that way, not in-between and life just don't work that way.
      Thanks for responding back to me.

Obi Wan tells Luke, you're not the last of the old but the first of the new (Jedi). I am probably wrong about where I saw this but it has always stuck with me and hope it reappears in the new cannon.

    I'd long thought the same as you about the extremity of the Jedi and Sith philosophies, and that a more balanced, self-aware approach would have served better, so it's cool to see that there's a possibly-canon vindication of that. The funny thing is, my best analogy to the issues with the Jedi philosophy comes from another Disney property: Frozen. Elsa was taught by her parents to fear her emotions and suppress them, which just left her unprepared and unable to actually deal with strong emotion when it hit. Sound familiar?

  • @Penwiggle
    @Penwiggle 7 років тому

    Great theory. Here's some other things to think about, if you haven't already.
    When Lucas wrote the original Star Wars films, he said he wrote it for 12 year olds with a clear good and bad side, wanting kids to lean towards the good side in life. Also, films and shows back then were very much good vs evil, and the evil people were clearly very evil. It's only been in more recent years where the good/evil lines are blurred, and good people sometimes do evil things, and evil is really just a point of view, evil people don't see themselves as evil. Bane's story is a great example of this. On the surface, he is very evil, but when you know his back story, you get why he does what he does.
    Anyway, I digress.
    If we take the theory that the Force is constantly trying to find balance. When the Sith get to strong, the Force empowers the Jedi. I've always thought that the prophecy of Anakin being the chosen one to bring balance to the Force was spot on, but at the time, the Force was tipped to the Jedi side of the scale. So the only way to balance the force was to reduce Jedi numbers and strengthen the Sith.
    As long as the Sith and Jedi are at opposite poles to each other, and constantly fighting, there will never be balance. Only through the Grey Jedi approach is there true balance.

    • @epistemo3442
      @epistemo3442 6 років тому

      Renee Mineart
      The Grey Jedi will never happen. If it happens, it will only led a faster downfall of the grey Jedi order, as shown in both the legends and canon continuity, because emotions led you to the dark side, and the dark side is not something, you can't easily resist.
      There are only two ways of a grey Jedi.
      You can be a coward and an apathetic Jedi living his life in the uncivilized parts, and not caring of the state of the Galaxy.
      Examples: Bendu (Star Wars Rebels Tv Show), Jolee Bindu, and many more.
      The second, is to have you're emotions intact, and now you're are susceptible to the dark side easily than before and the fall to the dark side faster. Because of this, it will explains why Luke Jedi Order failed and end quickly, it's because they don't suppress emotions and just let it a part of yourself, unlike, the old Jedi Order which had been standing for almost several of thousands of years, the only reason, why they stand that for so long lost it's because they avoid the dark side and suppress their emotions.
      Examples: Kylo Ren, Anakin Skywalker, and etc.
      TBH, the Force is nothing more of an insidious power that corrupts everything in the universe, and is the main source of the never ending conflicts that will forever torment the Galaxy as long the Force exists. The only way to end this torment, is to destroy the Force, to remove it's absolute influence across the galaxy, and the Galaxy will be saved from the horrors of the both light siders and dark siders, sure there can be war happening in the galaxy due to some problems, but those wars will be nothing compared to the eternal conflicts caused by the Force.
      In other words, The dark side is human nature like being greedy, jealous, and etc., and the light side is human morals, values, manners, and ethics, but if an omnipresent being or power to ever exist, the dark side can be taken to the extreme, because there's the Force, same goes for the light side.
      Therefore, in conclusion, the only way to solve the never ending, galactic scale conflict, death and pain inducing war happening in the SW universe, is to destroy the Force and freed the galaxy from the Force corrupting influence to the galaxy. Sure, even if the Force is gone, there will be wars, but those wars and conflicts will never ever to gain the same effect and magnitude of the never ending wars caused by both the light side and the dark side.

    Honestly, I think you nailed it and I think the true purpose of the chosen one was to DESTROY both sith and jedi, not support one or the other. I truly think star wars is heading towards real balance in the force. Using passion and emotion for justice and committing good deeds instead attaining power. On top of which, hintity hint hint, Luke is wearing GREY robes....

    I hate one thing all vloggers seem to ignore. Luke was knighted. Maybe not ceremonially, but Yoda told Luke in Empire Strikes Back that all he needed left to do was to face Vader. Once he confronts Vader, he would be a Jedi. So, in ESB, he goes to face Vader, and in ROTJ he's brought into the movie as a Jedi knight (hence the wardrobe change.) Not to mention he faces Vader again & faces the emperor too, thus defeated them. I say he's a Jedi master by then. Please vloggers, give him credit!

    • @GenerationTech
      @GenerationTech  7 років тому

      that is a good point. But for me I always respected luke despite the fact he never had an official ceremony. I always thought all that organizational stuff and rules really limited the jedi. Each individual had strengths and different ways they cultivated their relationship with the force. Luke had proved several times that he was more than capable.

    ok here is a question.Let's assume they take this gray stuff and achieve balance... then what?
    what happens after that?does the universe stop and everything will be fine?Because the thing is force sensitivities will born and in a huge galaxy it will be inevitable that one day one of these person will reek havoc on the galaxy. So what if "balance" is actually un-maintainable and cannot been hold up but only a short time?

    • @epistemo3442

      Ákos Kovács

    I've been saying for years that this idea of you are either good or bad is bullshit. The prophesy said the chosen one would bring balance to the force, which I took to mean embrace both sides. We already know that Mace Windu tapped into the dark side, to be a better Saber fighter, and actually was able to beat the emperor because of it. Luke also tapped into it to defeat Vader. The true balance is to embrace both and become a gray Jedi. Osaka was the best known gray and was powerful because of it. She even said something similar as Luke, in the trailer, when she said "I'm no Jedi". I guarantee what this video talked about is spot on in the thinking going on here. If you think about it, that is just life. We all have good and bad in us. It's the never ending plot we've seen in many stories. Makes me think of star trek TOS when Kirk was split into a good and bad version of himself. In the end he said both couldn't live without the other.

    you cannot be too far in the light, lest you ignore your own shadow.
    you also cannot hide too far in the dark, lest you become blinded to the light.
    for what could be dark if there is so much light?
    and how can you see the light when it is all dark?

    Didn’t Luke also reject attachment and love in order to save his friends and father, thus rejecting Jedi principles, also? Had he not ignored his Masters’ calls to finish his training and destroy his father, who knows what new disasters the Jedi - in this case Obi Wan and Yoda- would have helped to create. This would have been a feather in the cap of Yoda, in terms of all the massive mistakes he made towards the end of his life.

    Also- What are your thoughts on who left "Rey" on Jakku? We know Jakku held the observatory that did map the unknown region. Thrawn was from that region. We know that Disney wants Star Wars to be theirs. They want their characters and their story to take Star Wars to the future. To do this they need a bloodline, story and history that intertwines with the known Lucas/Skywalker saga. Disney announced two things when they purchased SW. The new installments to the Skywalker saga and Rebels. Disney introduces us to their Anakin with Ezra. Their Padme' With Sabine. Ezra is known in the Rebellion. Could he of been tasked with chasing down Thrawn and the remnants of the Empire? With Zeb, Ezra has been in the unknown regions. Leaving "Rey" for a yet to be revealed reason? Ezra is a member of Hondos gang, could Plutt be as well?

    Grey Jedi are probably the most powerful force users, even more so than a Sith Lord or Jedi Master. Example, Luke defeated Vader after tapping into the dark side. Mace Windu was able to defeat Sidious, who fought a stale mate lightsaber duel against Yoda. Mace Windu embraced tapping into the dark side to create a lightsaber fighting technique and enhance his fighting prowess. Anakin defeated Count Dooku after tapping into the dark side. so I think we have very clear examples that a Jedi who is a master of the light and dark side is truly the most powerful and doesn't attach themselves as good or evil therefor they will not crave power

  • @captbrody5036

    I have never really gotten into the whole light side, dark side thing. Of course I was just kid growing up with Star Wars. After learning more about how the force works, I came to the following conclusion. There is no light or dark side to the force. The force simply is. Its how you use it that makes it good or evil. That's a choice, which makes the Jedi and the Sith simply factions that use the force differently to obtain their goals. So yes I would very much like to see more grey Jedi. Although I'm not sure if grey Jedi really fits. In the rebels series they explain the middle ground as the Bendu which I thinks better fits this belief.

    in the star wars universe, some people believe the galaxy would be better off without the Jedi, because no matter how much good the Jedi accomplish, some of them will always fall to the dark side and become tyrants of chaos (Sidious, Exar Kun, Revan). so Luke saying the Jedi should end makes alot of sense. but he still needs to train Rey because Kylo Ren, the knights of Ren, and Snoke are still a threat and must be defeated by a Jedi. so if Rey succeeded, would Luke kill her? deep question if you ask me
