Hi Elliot and Matt. Did you do a tour of the Shaftesbury…. Too many windows in the living room and nowhere to put a TV! The kitchen sofa area is not set out right to put a tv easily either. The Harrogate is by far the best kitchen living area for that price range
Really would love to see the upgrade options - maybe giving us a glimpse of the upgrade option board would be a plus

I live in Australia, but friends of mine have moved back to the UK and are having this stunner built in a lovely small development. Really enjoyed the tour, would have liked to check out the garden, those bifold doors are going to be a big plus in summer. I didn't know show home tours were a 'thing' on UA-cam, so thanks for that. I see a new addiction beginning.

As someone from Harrogate, having a home called the Harrogate which has a sage green door, is very apt. Sage green seems to be Harrogate’s favoured colour. From wooden window shutters to painted wrought iron gates and fences and even benches. You see sage green dotted around everywhere 😁

I thought the placement of the downstairs loo was odd. Guest have to travel through the laundry space. But the kitchen/dinner/living was perfect for entertaining or a family with little ones you need to keep an eye on. The study would have been a filming room for Elliott!!
Perhaps but maybe it would be more useful for people who use the back entrance more than the front. They can use it without having to enter the main part of the house

My utility is often somewhere I would not choose to have guests seeing.I liked the sloping ceilings upstairs, however I'm guessing that compromises loft space. I look forward to seeing which if any of these design ideas you will choose to emulate in your renovation:-)

Great layout. My only negative point is the front door opening position. I'd switch it round so, no-one gets thumped by the front door if they're walking out of living room at the same time!!!

Big mistake not having a closet in hall , a row of coats is not a good idea ( only a man would think that ) . I guess IKEA would have a slim cupboard that would save the day
Its strange to see the post box on the front door, this means the Postie has to go right up the garden path, it must take ages to deliver the mail, nice house though.
We generally have post boxes in our front doors, not boxes at the front garden boundary.

And a Royal Mail post person would never throw your mail! 😄

Something I have noticed about English homes, in contrast to most American homes, is that there are usually doors separating the various areas of the home, allowing them to be closed off. In the States, rooms are usually left pretty much open to one another. I can see advantages to both approaches, but it probably reflects a lot on how we live in, and use, our homes differently.
Is Donington a nice and safe place to live?
Not familiar with the area in great detail but driving through Castle Donnington it seemed a nice safe place to live.

As someone from Canada, I can tell you that a front hall closet that hides coats and boots is a MUST. I've noticed that people in England are quite content with a lot of hooks and racks at the front door. A couple of hooks for the coat you might wear that day is ok, but piles of coats and racks of shoes are way too much clutter for me, especially in famously tight British entrances. The open kitchen/family is great. Also, can someone please explain why every British house I view, new or old, had a swing door on every room? Entrances to common rooms like living rooms and kitchens are just an open space over here. I find all those doors take up a lot of real estate. (They also sometimes open into the room the "wrong way" for us...lol)
Open planned homes are not common but many people have gotten accustomed to this and really like the homes this way. There is a fire safety code that states that there must be a door between each room. @@ElliotNMatt I thought it might have something to do with the heating system. Most modern homes here have forced air furnaces in the basement. Didn't realize fire regulations played a part in it, thank for the info! I enjoy learning new things about different places. You guys are great!

I find some of the staff at the showhomes absolutely awful! Rude & get sarcastic if you ask too many questions. Especially Adam was not nice to myself and my husband at the Newton site. It seems in order to keep Adam happy, you’d need to sign on the dotted line straight away without even being allowed to go home & talk privately about it. Really arrogant obnoxious guy who thinks he bloody owns REDROW!
Hi Kitkat, If you've had a bad experience I would suggest perhaps sending Redrow a Tweet message or e-mail. I'm sure they will try to resolve this for you. I have no idea about your particular encounter but if it helps I can tell you that the whole property market right now is CRAZY! We have visited lots of new build developers and its the same all over. Demand is HIGH and its a sellers market. The pressure is indeed on to secure your new home quickly before they sell out. This is so that the customer does not lose out on something they really want/need.

small, claustrophobic, one person in that house and he could barely move. Poor build quality and materials, overlooked by neighbours on every window. Save your money and buy a 1960's house with 100ft garden and renovate it using quality materials and builders.
