Imade the Emilie when it was still called Yoko...on fact I am wearing one right now...The leopard would be fabulous... I've done shirts like this with less than the recommended stretch...First problem...getting it over your head...In general, with a good pattern, you need the recommended stretch to get it over your head..so first place to check...the next place to gauge f you need the stretch is upper bust ...a stretch will "relax" whereas a woven can ripple, bubble up, and wrinkle as you move. Next place is across the upper back-In a woven there will be more ease there for when you reach forward-the knit mean it is less ease...For the waist, it is more of what you said-negative ease or not-At the hip, the woven might roll up when you move but the knit won't unless it is loose enough all the way around ... You also need to check the bicept width...and remember to bend your arm...Even in knit, a lot of patterns don't include enough bicep space-Again, knits give, wovens bind You can make adjustment to use a woven for a knit. Generally, the easiest way to do that is to size up (doesn't always work for pulling it over your head) ...One caveat, a a plus size myself, even when I size up, I keep the shoulder length the smaller size
This is great advice. To me it looks like the main issue with the emilie would be in the sleeves - looks like they might have negative ease (or at least not enough wearing ease for a fabric with less stretch).
Love, love, love that animal print corduroy for the Jalie sweater. I’ve never seen knit corduroy in the UK - must search harder for this!! Thanks for sharing. 🤓🏴
I really think knit corduroy is the same as rib knit - so if you've seen that, then it's the same! Thanks for watching and commenting - I appreciate it!! 😊💕

That pink and white dress is actually very pretty. Could you cut the front hem shorter in the front and then add a medium ruffle? Kinda like the Spanish flaminco dancers? I think that would be super cute!
For the Mood top I would choose the tangerine/white stripes to go with the Spoon flower fabric. I would do the top part Spoonflower and the main body the tangerine stripes vertically. 🤩
Ooh - you are the first vote for the tangerine! I love it! Thanks so much! And yes, vertical stripes for sure if I use the seersucker on the bodice!! Thanks so much for the suggestion!!

Hi Cindy! 7° 🥶. I have to admit, I don't miss that kind of weather! I'm so glad you like the ideas!! You'll have to let me know if you make the playsuit - it seems like so much fun, doesn't it?
Hi from the UK. Great I found your channel via #sewfrugal22. Love your blouse combo fabrics, I would use the spot fabric for yoke and yellow seersucker for bodice, it'll look super cute 😍
Great suggestions Michelle. I would go with the yellow for the spot fabric and I’d have the stripes going horizontally YES!!!! It’s a fallacy that fuller figured ladies can’t wear horizontal stripes. I ALWAYS go finished garment measurements, and to ensure a neat fit over shoulders I use my upper bust and if necessary FBA and/or grade up. I think they require the stretch so that you can pull the garment over your head and body and of course cuffs too. Love the cream cloque fabric but I’m not sure it would be stretchy enough for your intended make. I do love a bit of animal print though. Can’t wait to see your make and yes this is a great way of finding new vloggers. I was an official vlogger last year and now we have twice as many……..❤️
Thank you so much for jumping in with suggestions and tips! That's what I love so much about this fabulous sewing community - I learn so much from everyone!! I just found you from watching your sew frugal video and now I'm a full subscriber to your channel😊. I can see I will learn tons from you - thanks so much!!
@@MichelleSewsAgain yes that’s what I love about this community too. I’ve sewn my own clothes on and off since I was 13 but even a seasoned sewer I’m 60 now can still learn a thing or two from other sewists.❤️
I love that you’re thinking about using the white. Some patterns that don’t have negative ease require stretch for you to be able to get into it. That neckline looks like it’s gonna need to be able to give a bit to get your head through. I’ve questioned the same thing and made a “loose turtleneck” and ended up with a neck situation that is a bit too snug (armholes too)
Hi Michelle The reason they include the percent of stretch is for the fit and ease of putting the garment on. Also, that stretch is what the pattern makers used to make the garment. You may get away with using less stretch by increasing the size, but you need make sure your head and arms can go through the holes without being bound. Negative ease is just what it sounds like - less ease. The stretch of the fabric makes it easier to get into the garment. I hope this helps. Patricia
Hi Patricia - thanks for the info. I knew that negative ease meant the final size of the garment would be smaller than your body measurements. That's why I didn't understand why stretch mattered on garments where it was obvious that there was NO negative ease. But I've heard from many that said the same thing you did - it's about getting in and out of the garment, i.e. the neckline, the arms, etc. That makes complete sense to me. I appreciate the education!! 😊
For the everyday dress - a belt makes all the difference, IMO. Also Sara from Sewing Therapy has a really neat oversized gathered sleeve hack for it that is really cool. As for your shirt with the yoke - I would put the dots on the shoulders and use the yellow seersucker for the body. I plan to participate and I think the Paddington top, but not sure which fabric yet.
Hi Christina! I actually made a belt for the dress but because my stomach is so round in the middle, it did NOT help 😂. But I appreciate the suggestion!! Thanks for voting for the Kleinia fabric placement! I’m keeping tabs😀. I enjoyed making the Paddington last month. I’m looking forward to seeing yours!
Loved watching your vlog and I think you should have an after challenge party and make up all of those free finds and present them in a party-style vlog. that would be fun, enjoy your sewing xxx
I don't think the stretch percentage would matter for the Jalie except in the sleeves and neck. I've made things in knits without the required stretch and the arms have been a bit tight. Love that white fabric though
Hi Deb! Yes, that seems to be the consensus - the sleeves and neck are the reason for the stretch requirement. Thanks for letting me know about your experience!
I made a cardigan from fabric without all the stretch required. It was uncomfortable across the shoulders. I would consider pulling it over your head. I love that white jacquard. Maybe the Harper cardigan would work?
I didn't even think about the shoulders - that's really helpful - thank you so much! I actually have the Harper Cardigan pattern. I might consider that - thanks for the suggestion!! 😊
Ha! I KNEW you'd like the leopard 😊. Thanks Ruan! I think the challenge is already turning out to be even more fun than last year - which I didn't think was possible! Thanks so much for hosting again!!!
Hi Michelle, thanks for all the recommendations. I'm loving finding all 5he new sewing podcasters too! About that lovely jacquard knit for the Emilie top...I think you might find the finished garment a little bit more structured based on there being less stretch, but that could be a good thing, right.
Hi Kim - I hope you found a pattern you might try! I am thinking of testing out the neckline in the jacquard knit to see if I can get it over my head. If I can - then I will likely make the whole top! Thanks 😊
I love last years dress...It should be easy enough to unpick and reshape the seam running from bicep to about pocket level... Knowing how it goes with me, I wouldn't take the back and the front in evenly...I tend to take a little more from the front just under the arm and a little more from the back around waist level...Nothing venture, nothing gained...
Hi there ! Yes, that sounds straightforward enough. I should do it just for the practice. I tend not to put those projects high on my priority list when they don't excite me very much. BUT I should definitely do it sooner than later! Thanks for the tips 😊
@@MichelleSewsAgain I’m on Feb 24th! I already filmed my video and I mentioned a pattern you did too! This is such a fun challenge!
Hi Michelle! Really enjoyed today's video. I would totally use the peach seersucker on the body, and the dots on the yoke. I wanted to take a minute to let you know that I HAVE made Mood patterns. In particular, two of their coats and the Maple Culottes. The culottes have become my go-to for a woven pant pattern, and both my sister and I wear our coats through the Canadian winter. I'm 49-40-45, and my sister is 54-43-50. The instructions may be a bit sparse at times, but the drafting seems really solid.
Oh my gosh that pink yyou are wearing is so so beautiful. The animal curdory knit is just gorgeous and the play set fabric is fantastic can't wait to see the finished garment🧵
Hi Orcilla! Thanks so much😊. The fabric combo I showed for the playsuit is definitely happening!! Probably for the playsuit - but if not, it's still happening 🤣
Such an enjoyable vlog Michelle. I’m discovering so many new UA-camrs, I went all down the list and subscribed to anyone I hadn’t seen before. Just love your fabrics and great pattern ideas. Thank you 😊
Thanks for the tips and ideas!! I would guess the stretch is needed in this case so the jumper can go through the head? Who knows! Looking forward to your makes ☺🥰
Love your ideas. For the Kleinia blouse you could use the patterned fabric for the yoke front and the main back body and you could use the seersucker (I prefer the yellow) for the front main body and the back yoke - or visa versa. I’m hoping to enter the #sewfrugal22 but I’ve just heard about it so it’s going to be a rush to get finished, but we’ll see.
Hi Jameelah! What a fun idea for the Kleinia blouse! Thanks for the suggestion. I hope you're able to join the challenge - they have lots of great prizes!
Hi Claire! I'm sure your video is good! Everyone seems to be doing it a little bit differently. I think a lot of people are following all the videos, so they'll get the information they need 😊. Thanks so much for stopping by!!
Thank you for bringing smiles, ideas, and honesty to those who follow you. I am not sewing like I have for many years as my responsibility is caring for my husband with Alzheimer’s. You are a “gift” to many😉
I made the Emilie before and am thinking of making it again unless I get inspired for something else. I like the sinclair skater dress. I like several T's as well.
I love all your fabrics. I do think the Mood top combo looks very similar to the tiered dress you showed with the dot fabric. But the dot fabric was beautiful, that needs to be made up and not remain hidden away in stash. I make knit tops with lower stretch than recommended IF the pattern has a relaxed fit or generous ease. Sometimes its really only the neck binding that needs the extra stretch and recovery. That is only my opinion, I'm sure others will say I've only been lucky so far. I love that this event is leading me to so many new to me podcasters, like you. I'm determined to have my lovely sewing podcasters out number my son's annoying gamer idiot podcasters on my YT feed.
Hi Vicky! Thanks for sharing your experience with lower stretch knits! A lot of people have mentioned the neckline so I think I might do a test of just the collar and see if that fits over my head! I understand your YT issue! My husband and I have separate accounts so we don’t have to deal with each other’s feeds 😂
Rib knit is rib knit in my eyes haha 😂 fabulous pattern Michelle, Thankyou! I’m gonna download the button detailed blouse with the yoke for mum, I’ll make her one for summer. Would look lovely with some summer pants I think, so glad I got to be teamed up with you for this ☺️☺️☺️
I'm glad you found a pattern you're interested in! I was SO excited when I saw I was paired up with you - I just KNEW that 2/22/22 (or 22/2/22 🤪) would be a good day!!
Hi Rosy! I just recently found your channel as well and just finished watching your video. I love your recommendations for free NO. pattern ideas!! Fabulous 😊
Great options indeed. I think the everyday dress looks great from the front but I think it would look better the same colour. M have you thought of turning it into a top all red and white, could you use the bottom to make a back pattern or do you have any red white left?
Hi Jan! The fabric mixing isn't what I disliked about it but I appreciate the advice! I don't think I have enough of the pink and white to make it all one color, even if I used the bottom of the front to make a back - it would end up too short. BUT I do like the idea of just cutting the whole thing down and making a top! Thanks so much for the suggestion!!
Oh my goodness- I completely overlooked the peppermint magazine patterns that you shared because of the body measurements- I’m sooo gonna make the play suit, maybe not in the challenge but eventually! Love your video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Great options, Michelle! I especially love that last fabric pairing you showed. I sure hope you make an outfit with that soon! 💗 I want to make a Paddington top and the Emilie sweater. For any one who wants a really beginner friendly pattern, the Laundry Day Tee Dress (Love Notions) is a great one that is very size inclusive. (Up to 5x) one of the options is a cowl neck. 😊
I recently made the Paddington! I really like mine but need to make some fit adjustments. I've heard of the Laundry Day Tee but I have a few tee shirt patterns so I haven't downloaded it. I might need to do a tee shirt comparison video at some point though! I love a good cowl neck 😊💕
Jalie is a French company so… how you said it first is closest. I love the Jacquard knit and I don’t see why that pattern needs a lot of stretch although maybe for the arms and neck… Also, I’m making the Jessica dress from Mimi g and the Suzanne shirt from Style Sew Me.
I've made the Caladium and I love it! I've made it in a woven. I didn't realize you could also make it in a knit - but that's actually a really good idea! THANK YOU!!

That is my thought also
That seems to be the consensus haha - I don't know why I didn't think of that!! Thanks so much for watching!! 😊
Lovely to find you Michelle. I’m worried that my video isn’t as informative as it should be, but I will do an update later on.
Hi Claire! I'm sure your video is good! Everyone seems to be doing it a little bit differently. I think a lot of people are following all the videos, so they'll get the information they need 😊. Thanks so much for stopping by!!
@@MichelleSewsAgain ❤️
That's the great thing about these videos, the variety between all of you! I'm sure we'll love yours as much h as Michelle's.
Thank you so much @@Sqwifeve I will show some patterns to consider in a later video. x
Im loving that playsuit combo!!! I cant wait to start investigating some free patterns! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
I thought of you when I saw the playsuit pattern! I knew you'd like it 😊. Can't wait to see if you make anything!!
Thank you for bringing smiles, ideas, and honesty to those who follow you. I am not sewing like I have for many years as my responsibility is caring for my husband with Alzheimer’s. You are a “gift” to many😉
Oh Ellen - my heart goes out to you. My dad had Alzheimer's - it's such an ugly disease. YOU are the gift to your husband! Bless you 💕
I made the Emilie before and am thinking of making it again unless I get inspired for something else. I like the sinclair skater dress. I like several T's as well.
Oh I'll go check the skater dress out - thanks for the suggestion!
I love the fabric you have for the playsuit! The leopard print is super as well!
Hi Pamela! Thanks so much! I love both of those fabrics as well - even though the leopard wasn't what I was expecting, it's still pretty fab haha!
Would look lovely with some summer pants I think, so glad I got to be teamed up with you for this ☺️☺️☺️
Please please please make the Playsuit! You’d look gorgeous and cute as a button in that!
Happy to watch the two of my favorites back to back.
@@dotschischloh9767 oh bless you 😘
I'm glad you found a pattern you're interested in! I was SO excited when I saw I was paired up with you - I just KNEW that 2/22/22 (or 22/2/22 🤪) would be a good day!!
It's definitely at the top of my list 😊💕
I always love your ice dye fabrics. That Jalie pattern looks fantastic and I'd be curious to try that one, too!
Thanks Megan! If I'm going to try that one I need to hurry, time is running out to wear it haha!! I'd love to see your version!
Hi! I'm so happy to have found your channel and I love your pattern suggestions! Xx
Oh good then I'm glad I mentioned that! Isn't that playsuit adorable?!?! I cannot wait to see your video!! 😊💕
@@MichelleSewsAgain I know! I hadn’t really thought about investigating the fgm 🙄 but tonight I’ve been looking into the patterns and oh boy my list is bonkers!
Love all your patterns and fabrics choices. However I can't wait to see your leggings and playsuit if you decide to make them. I think they would be so chic and cool! Thanks so much❤️❤️❤️❤️
I also want to see those. I love the playsuit pattern and want a good leggings pattern.
Thanks so much Jo! I am not 100% yet on which pattern I'll make but those are definitely at the top!! Thanks for stopping by 😊💕
Thanks Rachel! I'm excited about the playsuit for sure! I love the fabric for the leggings - so that is definitely a possibility as well 😊💕
Thank you so much for sharing these lovely patterns and your ideas! I know you're not smitten with the everyday dress, but I love your use of colors and tie dye prints on it! I'm always a sucker for a good colorblock moment!
Oh you're so kind Fatmata! I LOVE colorblocking and print mixing - it's my jam 🤣
Love it all!
Thanks Shellie! 😊💕
Thank you for helping me with the Jalie pronunciation! I need to go check out those patterns - thanks for joining in the convo! 😊💕
I think the % stretch is important for fit, but I also don’t understand why!
Some other people have mentioned the stretch is so that it fits over your head - NOW it makes sense haha!!
Your leopard print corduroy would be brilliant for a Caladium Jumpsuit, not free so not suitable for Frugal 22, but just your style!
I've made the Caladium and I love it! I've made it in a woven. I didn't realize you could also make it in a knit - but that's actually a really good idea! THANK YOU!!
Thats funny. I think the peppermint everyday dress looks lovely on you. I don't think it makes you look dumpy at all.
Oh that's so sweet of you to say! 💕💕💕
Hi Michelle, sorry to message you here but I think your Instagram account has been hacked!
Hi Jo - yes, I'm aware. Please report the account - hopefully the more people that report it the faster it will get resolved! Thank you for looking out for me!! 💕
You’re welcome, I hate that they’re trying to scam people and wreck genuine accounts. I think they might’ve given up on yours because I message saying I knew it wasn’t you and not the account can’t be found! You may be able to recover it now 🤞🏽x
