Taylor is fantastic, such a great chap in front of the camera. His enthusiasm is addictive, and he can walk the walk not just talk. Proper spannering skills and a great presenter. Thanks Taylor.
I like French cars, but French cars don’t like me. Had a Renault 5 turbo, nearly killed me twice, in the end it just emptied my bank account instead. I’ll stick to my mark one Golf GTI
The engine was from the 405 Mi16. Which made 160bhp from its 1.9. I believe in 1988 this was the highest output N/A engine BHP per Litre of any car. It was a bit of a monster. Ahead of a Clio Williams 16v etc.
The thing I noticed is during the drive, there was so much light from the windows coming in, thanks to the thin pillars and full size windows & windshield. It really shows how much visibility is cut off in modern cars with current crash standards making those pillars so thick. I would rather have the visibility and light than the safety and needing cameras installed to compensate for the massive blind spots.
To be honest I understand and get the sentiment... But when sh*t goes south, I will live with my thicker A pillars of modern cars. Back in the day (early 2000s) my then gf had a Rover 100. 10/10 visability, paper thin doors and general sh*t build quality. Bloody terrifying car even back in the day when I was young and "immortal". These days I ride around in a Octavia 3, 2.0 TDI, engine has the poke, is nice on cruise; great on fuel and is slathered in crumple zones & saftey features such as seatbelt pretensioners and airbags for my face and limbs. Thinking back to the Rover 100 where the crumple zone was my knee(s)/femur(s) and I would face plant the steering wheel in any accident; along with the vehicle mostly disintegrating. I will personally accept the reduced light intake and visability, the thicker A pillars of modern cars. Your mileage may vary, be safe out there people 🙃
French engines and ITBs are a match made in heaven, the top floor of heaven... also, It's really nice to see that every single video the CarVertical ad is made for thta video specifically...unless they've turned Alex's voice into AI and it's just fakery, but surely not...
No I think it’s a slightly altered script they probably most likely do it in batches so if they have 4 videos planned to come out idk in December then he’ll do the voiceover for all of them in one day
If you loosen the two nuts holding the gearbox mount to the battery tray you can lever the mount towards the drivers side a small amount, probably enough to give you a bit more master cylinder clearance.
Love the sound of those ITB’s.. I have a 1994 Citroen ZX 16v, just recently finished its rebuild. The engine was rebuilt top to bottom, head ported and polished, and of course I fitted a set of Jenvey throttle bodies on a stand alone ECU. Hub dyno tuned too 190bhp. It’s great fun to drive, and what a soundtrack to listen to doing it! Love the content, can’t wait to see what the Pug makes on the dyno
Love it! I had a 1.9 GTi fitted with a M16 and wanted to but ITBs on as the bay looked way to busy. Uunfortunately, I sold it on instead..... but i have ITBs on my Caterham and twin 40s on my mk1 escort and love the raw! I also had a 1.9 stock grey E reg GTi back in 2005 when i was 18 and loved it, seeing this reminds me of it
I used to convert customers' standard 205s to run the MI16 engine, with a 1.6 gearbox they were frighteningly quick! Great to see you enjoying the hell out of your new car Taylor!
It was the 405 Mi16 Taylor. The engine was also in the Citroen BX GTI 16v, then later when it had to have a cat, grew to 2.0 litres in the last of the 405's as well as the Citroen ZX 16v.
Well done Taylor for another fun packed episode Your the best -- you have brought this channel along way ahead of the others Fun Laughter And even more FUN
My Dad had a 205 back in the day, he bought it from a farmer who just had it stored in a shed. He did some work to it but never to this level, Taylor you build a beast I love it
Crazy fun! But my prediction is 180 HP (not 210-220, that would be crazy)... the noise (with the ITB) , the lightweight (and the rattling) is the fun! I do remember my friends mom had VW polo with 54 HP it was crazy fast :-) and my mom got the 37 HP... It was crazy slow :-) I then inherited that one, and never reach the speed limit on the motorway on straight line... but I did manage to get it 10 Km/h over the speed limit (friend was driving) on a big downward hill.. 🙂 My next car was a Nissan 200SX S13, CA18DET ("shit" tuned to 200 HP from 169'ish) and the ketchup turbo was so much fun... after that car... I got the same one again (with a port polished CA18DET and new turbo and I guess about 230 HP which I was going to finish off with about 300 (ish) HP... but my friend drifted that sort of out of bounce and had to sell it for parts)... the family stuff started to happen and the cars was just a from point a to b transport... sadly...
Taylor is the best, maybe an electrical class is overdue, but he makes me feel like I could be a mechanic. That happy face when he stepped on the throttle is priceless, didn’t see him that happy in a 600hp+ Tesla truck…..
This is what we want!!! Best hot hatch ever made (in my opinion) all be it with a far from standard beating heart, being messed about and thrashed about by one of best YT presenters. Make this video another 15-20 mins longer, put it up against a modern hot hatch for a comparison and we're hitting peak YT 👏
I love Taylor and I'm not even gay, he's a great addition to auto Alex, very intelligent, very funny. And the gri is just perfect, I was born 87 , says it all.
Please please please can Alex get something similar from the 80's/90's, and Rory too - and do a bit of a build off? Similar to the TG Golf/Nova/ whatever James got episode?
remember a mate doing the convertion, Mi16 engine was stupid money, drove a complete BX GTi home for lot less...the entire loom being green cable wasnt fun though

It was also used in the Citroen BX GTI

The MI 16 engine was in the Peugeot 405
And what a wonderful combo that was 👍🏻
@@MudSluggerBPit really wasn’t, the chassis in the Mi 16 405 was terrible. Tons of power for the day. But that was about it.
