The Jayakars are a wonderful couple and their endeavour to keep the tradition alive is unparalleled..
Thanks for bringing up this episode...
One of the best episode so far. The history of the community is incredible. Would love to see Koli community food and culture in coming episodes.
I am a Kshatriya Paachkalshi (vadval). Thank you, Kunal for making this episode to introduce the OG communities of Mumbai and areas beyond. Many people in the rest of Maharashtra get confused with PP, Chaukalshi, Paachkalshi cuisine with South konkan and Malvan cuisine. So glad you made this episode by explaining the history and origins of these communities.
Me too… 😋😋😋😋
I never knew Vadval's were Kshatriya's. Now, it explains the fiery temper. 😂😂
Btwn! I am also one.
@@warriorforjesus9553 well other thing which may surprise you the Vadvals got rid of Portuguese control on Catholic Church around Mumbai. The Kupari were Brahmin origin.
@@AjitJoshi686 Wow! What a beautiful piece of information. What about the Marathas? When did they leave?
@@warriorforjesus9553 very few people came with Chimaji Appa from Pune. Chimaji himself was not a very senior member of the family. The local catholic population rose against the Portuguese rulers due to persecution more or less same time. Even in Mumbai suburbs the local Catholic population rose against the Portuguese. In current binary religious Twitter style debate it appears unbelievable. But in 1700s and even today the Vadvals, Kunabis had more common with the Chitpavani speaking Konkanastha Brahmins compared with Portuguese. Please search chitpavani language on UA-cam sounds very different than modern Pune Marathi.
Kunal is at his best home pitch.
Great episode.
We are very fortunate with communities preserving their identities and their culinary traditions alive!!
Hope it continues in future generations and they take it seriously.
Jai Maharashtra!!
Wonderful remark...
So far this is the best episodes Kunal.
Being a CKP married into a GSB family,I can relate to Jayakar’s expression on ‘VANGI’ We (CKP) add dried shrimp (SODE) to everything too.
This show made me nostalgic as I am based in NY .
Thank you and keep bringing shows which educate us on our roots and rich history!Thank you to the families who highlighted tradition and opened their hearts and homes to us🙏
Very siminal to CKP's who are also a Prabhu community. Being a CKP, I love the thikat sheera, it's my favourite.
What a lovely episode!❤
मुंबईच्या जडणघडणीत पठारे प्रभू समाजाचं खूप योगदान आहे.
अत्यंत आनंदात जगणारी माणसं!❤
Kharey
One of the best episodes, and thanks heaven that these communities exist and hold the tradition of maharastra high.
Thank you so much
I hope pathare Prabhu community is going to pass on their food culture to future generations
We most certainly do .
Really great episode with Mumbai history 👍🙏
In vasai virar and palghar region there is vadlal, bhandari, baman, koli communities explore that
A fabulous episode of a very well kept secret cuisine. I've lived in Bombay all my life & except for the bomblache vade, I had never heard of these other dishes. The historical background was extremely interesting to hear too. What really got me is that the Pathare Prabhu community is even a smaller minority than the Parsi community & both absolutely have to survive, if for nothing else then for their foodscapes to survive. This was a delicious episode. 🤤🦐🦞🦀🐟😋
This is really great because every household have their own recipes and it shows depth of Indian culinary delights which is currently represented by very few dishes all over the world we need to unleash this treasure. Love this please keep it up
Being a PP I can’t tell you how much history of different cuisines we have, people get amazed by the combination. My aaji use to make pumpkin cake that’s like the most unique thing.
I'm a vegetarian person. But I have enjoyed this episode thoroughly only because of beautiful narration in the context of origin, history , those beautiful ladies cooking with love and yes एक मराठी मुलगी म्हणून पण ❤
Fully agree..
Yes the love and care with which these ladies are preparing these classic dishes... ❤
You live a sad life. Eat fish smile
Regrettably, the women featured in the video represent the final generation to inherit the tradition of food preparation from their predecessors.
They are versatile individuals, excelling both in their professional pursuits and as exceptional cooks, a rare blend of talents that is increasingly uncommon in contemporary times.
A request to the team of Khane mai kya hai, please start making videos of recipes shared by this generation of gems, UA-cam has become a great source of knowledge and it would be nice to preserve this knowledge and pass it on to future generations to learn from it.
Proud to be Pathare Prabhu.
Jayakar kaka should write a book on cusine of Pathare Prabhu. Most of the recipe are not know by our new generation.
Make more episodes on community's food and their history of Maharashtra's different regions. loved it ❤❤❤
Being a part of Schedule Caste 💜 you have made me fond of Pathare Prabhu Family.. Love from Dombivli ❤️
I am Bengali, but these are the kind of cultural enrichments we need more; enrich the local culture and spread them across India, not the invading ones in the name of diversity, we are already diverse
I was soo looking forward for this episode. Finally you guys have featured this cuisine.
Yess!!
Beautiful and pristine episode ...! We Bengalees seem to share our love for fish (and especially shrimps [e.g., chingrir malaicurry]) with our dear Pathare Prabhu community! ✅

Amazing episode..

Please make an episode on Kokanastha Brahmin community food..
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story of Pathare Prabhu and Bombay. And offcourse the superb dishes laid for you, Kunal Sir. Thank you for this fab episode, Team Khaane Mein Kya Hai ❤️❤️
Its a beautiful episode, exploring the culinary delights of Pathare Prabhus. As rightly explained at 8.14 So...when they came from Gujarat and settled around Mahim, they adapted to the resources and food availability there, which prominently being a koli settlement was rich in fish and paddy crops, including coconut. There is also a very stark similarity in the recipes also like the Kolis. Nice episode.❤
Blessed and proud to be a agri kholi. No one makes food like our Mumbai communities ❤
They are the best food maker in our maharashtra
Your Ketaki taai is cute. This episode was very knowledgeable one. Please do more of rare food and cultures.
