  • This all took place in a laundry room as I fought the deadline to be part of the Arizona Photography Alliance 2023 Members' Exhibition in Phoenix, AZ. You don't need much. Join Leia and I as I pull a traditional silver-gelatin photograph from an 8x10 negative inside an impromptu darkroom with the "Pork Chop"; a self-designed and built semi-cold cathode LED print head. After the wind chased us out of the Rio Puerco Valley ( • Battle at the Big Nipple ) we booked a cheap last minute apartment in Albuquerque to print his photograph.
**NOTE** As shown in the episode the paper used is Ilford Warm Tone 8x10. After printing I evaluated the dried and toned (Selenium) print and determined that even with the #5 contrast filter the overall contrast was lacking. The final print was ultimately printed on Ilford RC Glossy 8x10 as this provide much needed contrast.
Leia and I are full-time vehicle dwellers living and working from the road. I've chosen to remove all mid-episode adds from my current videos for a better viewing experience so we welcome your support in the form of tips for treat and whiskey money via Ko-Fi:

Nice work, Adam. Proving to those who complain bitterly about not having a darkroom the truth of their creative laziness needs to be said. Oh, and wondering if that Green Fairy visited. There is still a place that specializes in wormwood or though I've heard.

I'm sure people have their reasons but I 100% agree with you. And this isn't what I would even consider a true "bare bones" setup. It's shocking how little you actually need if you REALLY want to do this sort of thing.
And about the Green Fairy...in all my years of swilling Absinthe I've only maybe had one "experience" but that could have been chalked up to anything...That being said, I will forever love Absinthe :)

Curious, how you dried your prints. I like how you can get by with minimum space and equipment.
Nice job. I'll be watching for more!

Hi Eric, I actually thought I responded to this earlier this morning but apparently it didn't post. These days I have little option other than to hang dry my prints regardless of paper type. I place two prints back to back and clip them to my film drying hanger. RC paper always dries quite flat of course but with FB papers it's a crap shoot with this method; sometimes they are strangely flat and sometimes they are wildly curly. Much of it depends on the temperature and humidity of the drying environment. Before I moved onto the road full time I would dry all my prints on screens. Incidentally, my old home darkroom was smaller than this laundry room :)
