  • Is being Jewish a religion, a culture, an ethnicity, a genetic ancestry, or a people? Or is it all of these at once? And how does our answer to this question affect our participation in Jewish life? Rabbi Adam Chalom, rabbi of Kol Hadash Humanistic Congregation (www.kolhadash.com) and Dean for North America of the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism (www.iishj.org), leads the discussion.
This program is in partnership with the Society for Humanistic Judaism (www.shj.org) and its "Intro to Judaism Through a Humanistic Lens" initiative in Fall 2024. For all 3 of these sessions, visit this playlist: • Intro to Judaism Throu...
The end of the live class session included the video "The Hebrew Mamita" by Vanessa Hidary: • Hebrew Mamita .

The Jerusalem Temple was the only location authorized for animal sacrifice once the Zadokite Priests consolidated their power. When that was destroyed in 70 CE, there was no place left to sacrifice, so something new had to take its place. You can hear more about that transition in these two videos from our "Introduction to Jewish History" series.
