From well-known terms like ocean, lake, river, and tributary, to more obscure ones like tarn, kettle lake, and firth, these bodies of water shape our world. So put on your geography life jacket and go for a swim in the fantastic world of water.
You'll learn about gulfs, arroyos, fjords, oceans, bays, coves, and man other definitions for bodies of water. We can help you understand them - but you have to explore them.

Why does it feel like I just watched a video plays before a Disneyland ride.
the music
Exactly what I was thinking
the way they talked about the water
Creddz it's the animation style
Wow i wasnt the only one
That music made it sound way too epic. Haha.
Alex Brinkley I was thinking the same thing
One lake to rule them all
Alex Brinkley
Gives a real Pirates of thr Caribbean/ Indiana Jones production value feel.
Andre Costa Makes you wonder why we dont just call this place Planet Water.
US The Blue Planet (II, release date 29 Oct 2017)
no swamp?
Somebody once told me... swamp is off-limits.
Swamp, marsh, bayou, wetland.
swamp has been drained! no more swamp.
halimceria ...yep. Trump replaced the swamp with a stinking cesspool.
Shrek disapproves
The video was nice and everything, but who ever scored the music for this deserves a freaking award
If you told bee they'd just used the score from one of the Harry Potter movies, I'd absolutely believe you
Can you guys do a similar video for pathways? The difference between roads, avenues, streets, boulevards etc.?
The video.
The music.
The editing.
The animation.
The narration.
Ugh. Fcking love this video.
Since you guys hit 3 million, your videos‘ graphics have gotten better, you’ve been posting pretty much every day, but you haven’t made the top vote video yet! Lol. Btw, the music in this video was a bit... epic.
The music is to loud comparing to the narrative. My ear is bleeding.
its epic video though.
Anyone know what the music was called?
My same question: what was the title and artist of the music?
Trevor Matthews
I think they said it at the end. 4:58
It’s either PINNACLE by Daniel Nielsen (ASCAP)
or
FJORD, MYSTIC BALTIC by Christopher Tin (BMI)
Never though i would be watching a movie about water
Vox you guys are the a part of the cure of cancer for UA-cam
Please keep up the GREAT work
John Smith More like the rotten cancer that ravages UA-cam.
John Smith I thought your comment said pure cancer not cure to cancer lol
Only when they're apolitical.
markatl84 It's nice that you assumed that much from my comment. There's a word for that it's called prejudice.
How is talking about water going to cure cancer?
Vox. An informative body of water.

@@sundalongpatpat I can fix that :)
swamps or brooks?
MijaMix somebodyoncetoldme
MijaMix brook is one of the "many words" for creek, so it was implicitly mentioned. I do agree that they could have addressed swamps, marshes, bayous, etc...
They mentioned rivers and deltas. Wetlands aren't really bodies of water, reservoir is just a term for a storage of water, and rapid is just a type of river.
I think a swamp has more to do with the life and land around the water than the attributes of the water itself
Mel BROOKS...has nothing to do with water
Vox giving me that daily knowledge.
I love the Loch Ness moments, the music just added to the moments
Can't wait to use this information on real life
so people will think I'm smart
yeay me Yea, mine too.
joelabo - That makes no sense.
this is by far the best 5 minute video i have watched this year. thanks VOX!
Haslan Roslan mine too.
That was some pretty dramatic music for a vocabulary lesson...
The music was great, I felt like I was on a journey.
Getting Game of Thrones vibes
Ikr
Yup yup.
Fishyy the fish or Lord Of The Rings.
THAT'S THE MEME, MY DUDE
Fishyy the fish Pirates of the Caribbean
Interesting to hear words that are adapted in dutch that I didn't know of, strait => straat, mere => meer
well the dutch have water around them and they took that knowledge to the English so we borrow the words too.
I live in Norwich and we have like 7 Plains as in wide open streets and we get that from the Dutch or Strangers
Lisa Martens
Dutch, English, German, Afrikaans, Limburgish, Scots, and Frisian are West Germanic languages.
Lisa Martens They're Germanic words left over from Old English the Anglo Saxons spoke pre-1066. More common up North.
even in Portuguese we have similar words: strait is estreito and lagoon is lagoa
That's because Latin-based vocabulary entered the English language.
45 pages of geography book finished by watching a 5 minute video 😂😂😂😂 thanks for helping me for my quiz 😂
thanks vox 😂
The music in this was phenomenal!
"Fjord" and "Mystic Baltic" by Christopher Chiyan Tin, and also "Pinnacle" by Daniel Jay Nielsen ;)
I love how you went kayaking just for a couple seconds of footage lol
Graphis, Narrator and especially MUSIC is so great! Keep this going!
For anyone curious, first song is Fjord, second is Mystic Baltic, and third is Pinnacle all by Corner Stone Cues
Fun fact: water can flow and it can crash, be water my friend.
3 years on and this is still a masterpiece
I'm a freshman in university and majoring in geography. This video TRULY helps me a lot with all the confusions ! Thanks vox !!!!
That was super informational. Thanks Vox.
BILLABONG
what about a bayou !!
Excellent! I’ve always wondered about the different names, and now I know!
Loved this vid so much. Music, graphics, transitions, animations, jokes, narration, description, and information. Well done well done. Loved it loved it.
The line between "river" and "creek" can be murky (pun intended). Where I grew up, Gales Creek is bigger than the Wilson River, and no one could explain to me why that was the case.
nateslovebug That would be because the creek most likely flooded over time and became larger, but no one updated the name
Stefan Banovski possible. Maybe someone on the internet knows for sure. :)
Ah. So that could be true as well, but that explanation is unnecessary. The Wilson River is quite a bit larger on average, I happened to just be familiar with the points where their sizes overlap.
In general a river is deeper. If flow slows down a creek becomes a series of pools with small drops between them, whereas for a river, the pools are long narrow lines following the channel and slopes between are gentle.
cool

Love the Vox Almanac series. Keep it up!
Vox, the channel that reports on global and US events/topics, yet also produces content that you never knew you wanted to see but you always leave satisfied after watching and learning something new. Keep it up, you're one of the only channels I disable adblock on.
VOX talking about water now
check your water privilege vox
they thirsty
But still no Filthy Frank lore
SJW's will complain that only the privileged bodies of water were mentioned but not the obscure ones
thanks for stating the obvious :D
_"No comment on Monster"_
*shows Loch Ness*
Damn Vox, where were you with this when I needed it?! Amazingly made video
Thanku @vox for making these 5 mins of video worth watching keep up the good work
You forgot River
He mentioned river in reference to others, so maybe that's why? Because it was kinda already in there?
Though I wouldn't have minded a specification about what qualifies something as a river.....
Kye Talks They forgot Brook too
and creek
I like how many people are in the comments saying they forgot things they actually mentioned in the video. LOL
3:20 lmao
The whole video is presented fluidly........Bravo Vox!!!!
Fariz Adnan "fluidly" I see what you did thereq
The music, the animation....it all makes it so much better. Besides that, it's a very interesting topic. Well done Vox!
This was like epic and super inspirational, and it is about terms for bodies of water. Never cease to amaze, Vox
Water great video Vox!
Be water my friend...
Wow! The animation is awesome for a video about water. And the music too. Great job Vox!!
Vox, awesome video! Enjoy your weekend! 💯🙏🙌
*All I learned from this is WATER!*

What about bayou
SpmSam and swamp
Love the music, it's so calming..
Excellent video! The sound is epic! This video is too underrated!
This was very useful thanks
Nice
The music made this feel so magical, I love it!
I like this vibe from vox. Actually informative and interesting. Next time maybe some more history and etymology too?
I should be in a lecture...
I don't think "sea" needs to refer to an inland body of water. The north sea, celtic sea, norwegian sea, greeland sea, arabian sea, etc. are all just subsections of the atlantic/pacific oceans, named mostly based on the lands that surround them. None of these examples (there are more!) are inland at all.
That was incredibly well put together! I was a sailor for years and still ended up learned a thing or two on this! :) Thank you for all the time and effort for this wonderful video... :)
P.s. - You forgot "false rivers"... Thought you did cover a river that changed direction and left behind a body of water which is essentially the same thing... :)
The music is great! I hope you have more videos like this!
Just make a book already.
What about the underground bodies of water?
Makes no sense, but let's just call those "tables".
Parrot Ox aquifers, underground rivers and lakes, permafrost etc.
Arguably not really bodies of water.
This music is making me feel a rollercoaster of emotions
Very Informative, especially mapping makes it easier to understand
H2O
"Southern Ocean" really ? it's the Antarctic Ocean (or Austral Ocean if you really want it)
By the US only, "The Southern Ocean is the 'newest' named ocean. It is recognized by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names" NOAA website.
Tell that to the IHO in Monaco 😄
Australians call it the Southern Ocean, so do New Zealanders and the Britons. And so is anyone calling it the Austral Ocean, they're just saying it in latin.
Nice video, Vox!
I must start exploring some bodies of water now!
Thank you, an excellent roundup of terms, always there will be some missed out.
One of the first!!!
🏆
Why haven't you guys included squirt water?

Endlessly impressive, Vox. Love the GOT-style!
Vox needs more subscribers and viewers. I love most of their content.
Wanna know a body of water they didn't mention? Houston!! 🤣 Too soon? Okay bye.
Lol, the joke will only land if you use correct spelling smh.
As a Houstonian...
Lol
While on the subject of Houston...bayou was not mentioned in this video
@@deaf-tomcat but there is no land
Good boy
MrMeTech Thanks dad
WOW I AM SO IMPRESSED BY THIS CHANNEL I SUBSCRIBED ! I AM SO AMAZED BY YOUR CONTENT AS IT IS MORE OF AN INTELLECTUAL AND EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT DOES NOT REHASH THE SAME OLD CRAP THAT NINETY PERCENT OF THE OTHER CHANNELS DO ! ! ! !
(Applauses) Best short-documentary on defining the type of bodies of water. I can't wait to share this information with friends (I think for now I'll share it on Facebook)
Last
Ben Dover lies
Well that was a weird video (still amazing though)
So cool, thanks for the video vox!
Two things. 1. Loch Ness is not an inlet that connects to the ocean, which is called a sea loch. It's a freshwater loch. 2. Sticking with Scotland, one could do an equally long video on the Gaelic words for bodies of water: allt, abhainn, sruth, linne fairge, cuan, muir, glumag, caol, bàgh, bùrn, loch, lochan, pow. And this leaves out most of the general terms for water and rain. It's a wet place.
Damn I'm early !!!
can vox start another second channel for their politically fueled videos, and put their mini-docs on their main channel? Looking at their viewership, you can see that a lot of people love their informative videos, and then there is a whole host of people that get annoyed and stop watching their videos all together after political episodes
Colin Craig I second this, ‘‘tis true.
Just don't watch the Political Videos...😂 Its not that hard because all the people are different...
"No comment on the monster" - Vox -
Finally a Fragmovie that's not overproduced and a song I'd actually listen to
Never knew i needed this video... Thank you! 👏
Loving this one.. Well, it is safe to say that he is my favorite in Vox
Vox. Although this video didn't get any views relative to production. Please continue
