The Cloisters in NYC has a piece of marble you can touch and a section behind glass. The glass part is in perfect condition, the part not is shiney and smooth from people touching it over the years. Yes it matters.

As a half Greek who has been to Greece many times. And also hiked to get to the Acropolis. Let me tell you. Me and my whole family had to take so many stops to drink water. We only had 4-ish bottles of water. And bc it was summer in Greece (It gets boiling in summer btw) We we’re dying! But it was pretty fun and chaotic though.
