Thanks. I'm disgusted with the total contempt Amazon have shown towards their Fire stick customers with their updates trashing more and more functions so alternatives like this are really welcome. Keep 'em coming.
@@andrewmarshall3309 completely irrelevant. When I bought my fire stick it had full ADB functionality which has now been blocked which in my case has screwed numerous apps including launcher manager, all of tech doctor UK's apps, and Adguard app management, particularly update blocking, and no doubt side-loading will soon follow. If I had known this beforehand I would never have bought it.

You tweeted about this at the end of November and I thought you'd forgotten all about it. It's good to have competition amongst streaming devices, but if the box doesn't support ITVX, BBC iPlayer etc, then I won't rush to replace my 4k Firestick. Appreciate the review nonetheless.
Great review as always mate. I've had one of these some time now, and although the lack of support for BBC iPlayer and itvx is disappointing, Chromecast works perfectly so I just cast to the device from my phone. Job done. So dont let that put you off, I've found it to be excellent.
Saw reviews on this box over two years ago. Not a bad box this one - I had one but since given it away and got the next gen one, the 8010 which is a whole load better.
I've had this box about 6 months and it's good, if you want to expand the storage just insert a memory stick and off you go. Another good thing is , it's made in Europe (Austria I think) so no dodgy Chinese software, as for BBC iPlayer and itvx, I've got those on my TV, so it's not a problem .
Hi. Nokia 8000 is an old box with amlogic s905x3 chip, there are better alternatives for the same money. Let's say the Strong Leap-S3 or, if you want, with a larger remote, like the Nokia Strong Leap-3+ in white. Both have an amlogic s905x4-j processor, 16 GB of space and also support dolby vision, the price of the first is ridiculous and is 50 euros, and the second is 60 euros. Tried and works great. But it has googleTV. The real beast is the Nokia 8010, which has the same chip as the Strong, wifi6, 1 GB LAN input, 4 GB RAM and 32 GB space. Also updated to android 12.
@@Real_American_DAD Even the Xiaomi mi box S (2nd gen) is not bad, it has the same chip, except that it does not have a LAN input and only has 8 GB of space. If you are not a very demanding user, this is a wonderful box with dolby vision and atmos support and firmware support. Price around 60 usd.
You can install coreelec onto a usb stick and drop into straight into a usb hub connected on the Nokia 8000 streaming box (although videos don’t play). I then installed Docker on it so can put Ubuntu on it with a virtual network connection. At the moment mines running a home assistant server in Docker. On another usb I have emuelec so switch that out and can run it as an retro emulator. I do have the usb-c dvb for freeview tv but I don’t really use the Nokia 8000 I’m android much these days.

Been using one of these for other 6 months, brilliant alternative to Firesticks, easy to add custom menu and any other apps you want, no blocks what so ever. Try out the 8k videos on youtube and compare playback to a 4k or 4k max stick, these boxes piss all over the amazon range. Only snag is the small storage but easy to fix with USB stick and format as internal storage.

Dunno if it's the same with this box..but I had exactly the same problem with my android tv yesterday..once I accepted terms & conditions in freeview play..then itv x bbc iplayer etc..all started working

Ahup duck, Well i Purchased Nokia 800 a week ago Wow its a great bit of kit it's fast, no buffering running with ethernet cable running all my Apk apps good storage. On installing it automatically upgrade itself to latest Android system if you're not bothered about having iplayer, itv hub, and wanting to upgrade go for this FORGET firestick there is better performing devices and this is one. I brought this on your review, my thought was I got 30 days to play with it thanks to Amzon No Brainer deffernitely not sending back, love it Ps keep jokes coming they are s***** but always make me laugh 😂 Tada
To point out why the UK apps aren't officially supported it is because the device hasn't had a proper UK retail launch and all of the devices through Amazon are European imports. We really do have a very limited selection of streaming devices here that get official launches sadly.
I think I will give this a go, especially now my fire stick remote control has stopped working after following DocSquiffys advice yesterday, only wanted to get microphone working but now can't get it to link back to fire stick 😡
Can't grumble for £53 with an eathernet installed and USB ports with expandable storage , yes its 10/100 ethernet but so are firecubes which cost nearly 3x more, I got shield pro after seeing this sent pro back bought this so far its great little box , don't use 4 uk main apps anyway .
I lost my fire stick remote so ordered a new one. EVERYTIME I use it a message comes on saying it's updating the remote and not to press any buttons. I've let it do its thing a few times, but now I just press back to clear the message. It doesnt seem to make any difference, I wonder why I'm getting this message every bloody time?
Preferred if it had more internal RAM as 2GB is a bit small. And also the price is a bit more expensive than some other higher RAM models from competitors that sell for a lower price. Do like the backlit remote control. Nice.
the storage alone is a deal killer for me alone with the large remote. I hate those large remotes. Firestick and Nivad shield the remotes are small and can be used under the covers without looking at them. the only seaming box and remote that comes close to Firestick and Nivad Shield is the Onn.
Great review Adam, not being able to install itvx etc is a bit puzzling though, especially being android, bit pricey, not for me although I have to admit I have nvidia shield tv pro so bit bias, even thanks for a good alternative/option 👍
