    If not clickbait it's close. Anyone who has spent much time studying US tornado history knows it tends to be cyclical, and all that's happening is that we're in between the busy periods; they're never going to "go extinct". The weather which allows tornadoes to form will keep happening so the possibility will always be there. The time for prolific tornadoes and outbreaks will come again but nobody can say exactly when that will happen.

    Sometimes the SPC will issue a certain risk for forecasted severe weather. However, the atmosphere doesn’t always correlate with the forecast due to various factors. And i think that’s what happened a lot over the last couple years. It’s been active for sure given the La Niña. But forecast don’t always work out the way we expect them to. The atmosphere has a mind of its own at the end of the day.

    • @nicoleskorupsky1007
      @nicoleskorupsky1007 Рік тому +1

      The hurricane season was decently predicted, it was said it would be slightly delayed because of a large cloud of sand from Africa blowing west causing the air to be dry. As of right now we’ve only been hit with Hurricane Ian, if it were to start sooner we’d probably be hit with more. Regardless of that the weather is always going to change as time goes on due to either natural changes or caused by man. The earth is unpredictable most times which is why we do the studies and experiments we do so we can learn to get better at forecasts and predictions of events.

    I've noticed a few trends recently in storms. The first is it seems like storms go linear faster than used to. We are seeing less surface based supercells. It seems like most days where surface based supercells and tornadoes are expected the storms end up forming into a QLCS system. Another is there seem to be more nighttime tornadoes. When there are surface based supercells they seem to occur at night more often. Also I have noticed that localized tornado threats usually end up in something. The day may be meh for spotting overall but certain small localized threats end up in a tornado or two these days it seems. Morton, Texas is an example of this. Also I am seeing an uptick in tornadoes from unwarned storms. This seems to also related to localized threats, unexpected interaction of an outflow boundary with pop up storms or brief spin ups from unwarned squall lines that are quickly missed on radar. The Springdale, Arkansas EF3 tornado this year is an example of one that came from an unwarned storm initially. It's been an interesting past few years for weather, these are just observations from what i've seen. I know here in Northwest Arkansas there has been a downward trend overall in severe storms and especially tornadoes in recent years.

    • @highriskchris
      @highriskchris  Рік тому +1

      Interesting observations, I agree, storms seem to be going linear more than isolated, and when they are isolated they're usually elevated. Ground based isolated supercells are what produce photogenic tornadoes, maybe they're becoming less common.

    • @P_RO_
      @P_RO_ Рік тому +5

      It's not unusual for years to pass without an EF5 simply because they're rare to begin with. Moreso, if you study the way damage surveys have been done in the last 20 years you'll find they go to great lengths to avoid assigning that rating even up to ignoring clearly visible indicators of such strength. So it wouldn't surprise me if we never again see an EF5- but that won't stop them from happening occasionally.

    Are there any tornado events that had a clear blue sky sun shining, no warning. Our ears didn't pop, the sky never got green, and when my son, and I crested a small hill on Father's Day, in front of us were 3 small tornadoes.The weather never told us a chance of tornadoes, so I was amazed at seeing 3 right in front of us!

      Where was this? Seeing 3 tornadoes at the same time is not common. Also, for your first question, no tornadoes don't happen on blue sky days however sometimes they happen on smaller storms and can have nice weather right next to them, look up the Ashby tornado from 2020, that storm had nice weather nearby.

    Tornadoes def are not going extinct. What we are seeing is just unfavorable climate variations with NAO, PNA, AO, and especially ENSO. They have been highly favor western and central death ridges during peak season and drought conditions/drought have been increasing dry air aloft for every event that we do have. Dry air aloft is almost always the bust mode when it comes to our severe events in the plains. We will keep seeing our tornado numbers randomly going up and down but tornado alley will not be an avid producer of tornadoes until you can clear western drought or get an event with an unusually high abundance of moisture.

    The usual tornado prone areas are shifting. "Tornado alley" has shifted East. But a few years ago these climate fear mongers said that tornadoes are going to get bigger and stronger and last 5 times longer. Since then, there has been a record drop in tornado numbers and overall they have been less powerful.
