They should not have extended it without checking with him/his company but I think there's something else going on. His company says he can't appear in the episodes because of his prescheduled fan meet in Taiwan, but the episodes are filmed before 21 Feb, while his fan meet is on 28 Feb.
J I think he had scheduled to be there prior to the 28th. However, I think there’s something fishy as well. I don’t blame him for leaving either. They gave him so little screen time towards the end and his character was getting tortured all the time. They did him wrong. It’s sad cause he’s worked for that company a few times and they never had an issue before. That writer and director are messed up. I just hope he gets a bigger and better project soon after he rests and hopefully he’ll get to star on s drama with JN again and hopefully they’ll get a true OTP ending. Love this man.
Seriously, I think the scriptwriter and the production team have failed us the audience. We were promised a story about the female lead who found true love with her bodyguard in their quest for revenge and to take down the evil Imperial Family together. But half of the time we got a story spinning about how pitiful the Emperor is because of his manipulative mother and psycho father and the writer meandering the plot to sway our thoughts about how the Emperor shouldn't even be blamed for all the murders and accidents he caused directly/indirectly just because he is being lied to and manipulated around. We were promised Choi Jin Hyuk as the male lead yet the screen time he got is piteous and even less than Seo Kang Hee the evil nanny. It's extremely sad that Choi Jin Hyuk got the shortest end of the deal where in the drama he had to fight tooth and nail for his life, be injured, slapped, tortured etc. yet his character isn't given a good development. One can only guess if there's anything fishy going behind the scenes and I don't care how brilliant SSR was in his character. The fact remains that Choi Jin Hyuk was originally courted as the lead character and cast as such yet treated like a third rate. It is precisely his dedication and respect for the character Na Wang Sik and his professionalism as an actor that drove him to commit to finish filming his part till episode 48 as originally planned. Not once did he fall out of character despite such a huge letdown from the script writer and production team who prioritise the ongoing public sentiment and ratings over plotline integrity and promised drama payoffs. Perhaps this explains the steady declining ratings when the story shifted to feature the swinging psychotic extremes of the Emperor's behaviour (yes, even his over-the-top cuteness seems eerie and disturbing to me) in his relationships with the women of the drama as the powers clashed. Stripped off the Imperial veneer, the Last Empress has become nothing more than a depressing tale of evil powers that triumphs and toxic relationships that smells like romance and comfort on the surface but reeks of rotten self-centredness inside. To me, Choi Jin Hyuk had done his part the best he could with the excellence award as proof and that's good enough. And I applaud his guts and candid honesty in his thank you speech. Ultimately, it's the scriptwriter who plays havoc with her own creation that's such an insult to other creative arts creators who fight against all odds to stay true to their creative works and also trashed the precious time I've invested in watching this. Thank goodness this will be the first and last drama I would ever watch from this scriptwriter and pd. And I wish Choi Jin Hyuk all the best in his future projects and receiving good scripts like Tunnel that stretch his acting abilities and broaden his acting career.

The ending with oh sunny and woo bin walking with their luggage in the emperor dream is the end already for me. I was planning to quit the show already because of little screens we get to see of choi jinhyuk but still watched because cmon it's oppa so maybe it might still be good ending for him right because hes playing the male lead and hopefully they start showing us more of him but nope it's didn't happen this then they extended it and conflicts with jinhyuk schedule so he had to go out of the show. So dam it! Sigh.

I watched this drama and loved Choi Jin Hyuk's character as Woo Bin/Wang Shik. He was a very good actor. Just like everyone else, I'm also shipping the Empress and Bodyguard love story. I have expected a happy ending for the two of them though. Since the Empress Dowager have created a scandal with the previous empress So Hyeun and her bodyguard Mr. Kang, it could have been better if Na Wang Shik was not killed and had a peaceful life with Sunny. He's the reason why I love this Kdrama. I'm now watching all CJH's drama and looking forward for more.

i really hate it when the lead drop out of the drama, now i'm worried about the ending, i hope it will not gonna be stupid and rushed. The only one to blame is the writer because he, out of the blue, decided to extend the drama ... the synopsis of this drama is quite misleading there are too many scenes that could be cancelled ...

I watched this drama and loved Choi Jin Hyuk's character as Woo Bin/Wang Shik. He was a very good actor. Just like everyone else, I'm also shipping the Empress and Bodyguard love story. I have expected a happy ending for the two of them though. Since the Empress Dowager have created a scandal with the previous empress So Hyeun and her bodyguard Mr. Kang, it could have been better if Na Wang Shik was not killed and had a peaceful life with Sunny. He's the reason why I love this Kdrama. I'm now watching all CJH's drama and looking forward for more.

I honestly enjoy the drama not because of the plot(shit tons of loop holes and just ridiculous shit that's swept of the rug) but because of the actorssss and how they portrayed their character, loved princess ari. Now that he's not gonna be there, the balance is off and not because he and sunny wouldn't be together in the end, I really didn't see a spark of romance in between them but it would be tasteless to see him gone after all he's done, his mission and goal to bring down the empire. The thrill would be goneee
