  • Using comparatives and superlatives to compare people, places, or things. In this lesson we talk about Comparative Adjectives and Superlative Adjectives. We will see adverbs in another video.
    This ESL lesson is divided into the following sections.
    The difference between a comparative and a superlative.
    Adjectives with one syllable - adding -ER and -EST
    One-syllable adjectives ending in E. (e.g. nice, strange)
    Doubling the final consonant (e.g. big, hot)
    Two-syllable adjectives ending in Y. (e.g. happy, crazy)
    Adjectives with two or more syllables (e.g. famous, expensive)
    Two exceptions - Good and Bad
    You can find more examples (including with adverbs) here:

    Thanks for the video. I have a question - What is a short vowel? For example, I noticed that the words "new" and "slow" are ended in consonant-vowel-consonant, but they don't double the last consonant, so they become "newer" and "slower", instead of "newwer" and "slowwer". Could you explain this to me? :)

    • @WoodwardEnglish
      @WoodwardEnglish  3 роки тому +1

      You don't double the W, X or Y.
