The BoM analysis was definitely the most interesting part of this. Hearing the big business guy talk about business stuff in a way as passionate as that is cool as hell.
He's capping about the BOM. Nothing phone 1 sold for 337$ during the sale in india, and that too that's the retail price after taxes. Price before taxes(12%) would be approx $300. 1.6M views And no ad money has been spent, kudos! This is honestly one of THE best marketing videos you could have made without doing annoying marketing! It's a great, honest and insightful review. I just bought an iPhone14 pro max for work while still using an old iPhone for me privately. This video made me seriously consider getting the nothing phone as a future private phone without ever hearing about the brand before.
It's actually kind of genius. Honesty from the CEO, didn't need to shoot down the iPhone for no reason, and ending on a very smart clip of basically an Apple store employee confirming there's no real reason to buy a 14 Pro, so I guess why not buy the Nothing phone? Really smart stuff
You have to admire the CEO's brutal honestly and even admiration for competitors. That's a level headed, calm and collected CEO who takes in everything and makes wise decisions. Great things coming ahead for the Nothing phone company. Best of luck
Must applaud that honesty from Carl Pei, I started my journey into NothingTech with the ear (stick) and I have no complains. As soon as I can do it, I’ll get a Nothing Phone(1) as my first Android phone. I love iPhones and own several of them but this brand is doing things in a very different and attractive way that it stands out by itself and this type of content proves it. Happy to be able to support them!
Can't say no, I already got the phone and the ear (1) and my dad says too that the only android phone he would buy is the phone (1) and at this price it's impressive how good it is compared to other bigger companies

I didn't expect this. So real, honest and straight to the point, all these coming from the CEO. Also while talking very clearly and good. Great to see this, clearly worth supporting smaller team, companies to bring change, new ideas to the market.
this is really a smart marketing move...trying to compare Nothing phone to the likes of IPhone, but which in reality their competitor level now is more on Xiaomi/RealMe/Oppo
true. but you also have to take into account that the BoM for Apple is most likely less that what is calculated. Unless Apple released how much each iPhone cost to make (and they never will), we can only make assumptions. Apple likely gets huge discounts from it's suppliers, as they have huge volumes. I wouldn't be surprised if the real BoM was closer to the $400 mark. Also, I would imagine the "Pro" phones don't actually cost US$200-300 extra to build than the regular iPhone (my guess would be around $50-100 cheaper BoM)
Mega companies run on water my guy... it just is not comparable since it would be significantly less... they own everything and deal with such large quantities even the bom is overestimated by a lot.
@@james060491 Yeah i'd imagine their real BOM is closer to $450 and total costs maybe like $300... They spend a lot on other stuff like advertising so that leaves like 300-400 in profit based on my very unscientific estimate
I love this because whenever somebody sees a price tag on a product they don't understand that sometimes the margin really is zero.... @@Daniel-dj7fh M1 macbook is the first laptop in my entire life where I can do useful work with enough computing power and last an actual work day without charging. Making a lot of remote work outside situations so much easier as I can do without a power brick and feel safe (note: my usage isn't heavy on battery 100% of the time, otherwise it probably wouldn't last the 6+ hours I need). For that alone it's worth more money than competitors yet it's priced about the same as in equivalent tier Lenovo / Dell / etc. The value is absolutely top notch on M1 macbook (pro). Not to mention the great monitor, speakers, etc. I'd argue M1 iMac is also a great value with great speakers and monitor with the spec, but it's generally a niche product. Also tbh I think apple today has better value in general outside of a few exceptions like some crazy stupid monitor stand. Airpods pro 2 is priced the same or similar as competitors but with top tier ANC and absolutely industry dominating transparency mode (not seen in any type of headphones much less air buds).

I absolutely adore the ideas introduced in the Nothing phone, but I just don't have much use for them myself. That said, more competition is always welcome, and I'm ecstatic to see what this company does going forward. Carl Pei is a legend, and his humility and fairness in this review shows me that he absolutely deserves that title.
They changed, and now it's different from what OnePlus meant to me. It still has value, but lost its thing that OnePlus was known for. Like the build, reliability-i really can't put my finger on it. But when u used to hear OnePlus u kinda knew that this was a grt choice, not anymore. I have high hopes from nothing. I may or may not purchase it, coz I love 3.5mm jacks more than others and I wouldn't let them ruin my experience just bcoz all companies joined hands in removing that option for me. While some sony still providing the jack, and asus packing the jack in its smaller phone, they literally have no other reason to remove it, than to only sell their wireless buds. This is what makes me repell from such companies. If nothing 2 brings back the 🎧 jack, then I will grab it asap. But seems unlikely.

As a tech reviewer I agree. Whenever Apple releases a new feature software or hardware wise, wait for the next model. The first model is the beta. When dynamic island was released I considered it being the test model before they finalize things with the next model.

this is really a smart marketing move...trying to compare Nothing phone to the likes of IPhone, but which in reality their competitor level now is more on Xiaomi/RealMe/Oppo
As an iPhone user I hope this man succeeds in everything he does!
The thing is he calculated their own margin including expenses (OPM); while for apple they calculated margin for the product price itself (BoM)
true. but you also have to take into account that the BoM for Apple is most likely less that what is calculated.
