      It's not hidden lol. It was one of the chart toppers back in the day from what I gather. However in an album containing milestones such as Panama, jump and hot for teacher even a song this good gets overlooked. That's just how good they were.

    • @Itelkner
      @Itelkner 2 роки тому +2

      @@cheenu711 Hidden in time, hardly anyone mentions it now - at least on these reaction videos and when people talk about 1984. I was around then and it got some airplay on rock radio. Apparently it charted but the "big 3" from 1984 get all the mentions, so it almost seems like more of a 'deep cut.'

    Lots of people complained about Eddie's use of synthesizers on and after the 1984 album, but you got to admit,

    To answer your question, this track's a bit atypical for Van Halen. Most of their music is guitar driven. When they first came out in 1978, it was all guitar rock. But for the 1984 album, their 6th album, Eddie got an itch to display his keyboard skills and some keyboard-based songwriting. Eddie had won classical piano competitions as a kid and was starting to show that wasn't just brilliant on the guitar.

    • @woodch
      @woodch 3 роки тому +1

      Wanted to post pretty much exactly this. Don't let the fact that this isn't representative of a "traditional" Van Halen song shy you away from them. They have a wide variety of sounds and songs throughout their entire discography. They were much more than a typical 4-piece rock 'n' roll band, even if that was their "default" form most of the time.
      That said, I think you're really going to enjoy the Sammy Hagar era of this band. It was a different chemistry that incorporated a wider range of Eddie's writing and playing abilities, and some really great songs came out of it. "Dreams" and "Feels So Good" are great keyboard-heavy songs from that era.
      But explore the whole catalog. It's really great.

    (Van Hagar- with Sammy Hagar on vocals): Poundcake, official video,
    Aftershock, Right Now, Dreams, Finish What You Started. Of course, you might want to start this journey off right with a crash course on why EVH is a legend and guitar icon: Eruption solo, live without a net is the gold standard, must see performance.

    I’ve recommended this song to a few hip hop/rap fans because of the tempo and beat drops. It’s a bit different from their normal sound , but not a lot different. It’s from their massively successful album “1984” , which spawned 3 or 4 huge hits .... and this song wasn’t one the really popular ones , but it’s one of my favourites. 3 other songs that weren’t big hits from the album were “Girl Gone Bad” , “Drop Dead Legs” , and “House of Pain” and they’re just as good (or better) than the songs that became radio hits. I think the lyrics were just too racey for the ‘80’s.

    Eddie's songwriting master skills are evident here, as they are in most of their songs. So in that sense yep this is standard Van Halen stuff. The key to Van Halen's genius was his sense of rhythm and timing, as well as his unique tone and phrasing. There is so much going on in his music. Sometimes the vocals kind of muddy that up but if you listen past that you find all sorts of nuance.
    Listen to "Me Wise Magic", "I'm the one", "Pleasure Dome", "Dreams", and "Mine all Mine". The last two are keyboard heavy songs but as with all Van Halen they have excellent guitars accompanying them.

    Thanks for the great reaction. I'll Wait is a fantastic track, but it is not super representative of the band's overall sound. In 84, Eddie got into synthesizers and was awesome with them, but most of their other music is structured around guitar play. The absolute essential track to review is the Eruption guitar solo (live without a net version has superior audio and video). Many people consider it the single greatest rock guitar solo of all time. Until you have seen it, your eyes and ears have not lived.
    After that, you can dive into the VH catalogue fully and we can break out some other suggestions.
    Thanks again.

    As a guitar player, I'm entirely drawn to Van Halen because of Eddie's chops. That being said, I love this song for his writing abilities. Synth isn't a bad thing, even if it was overused in the 80's. This song isn't a guitar song, but it showcases that Eddie could write songs beyond the scope of his guitar. He could write good songs all around. I heavily respect that, on top of the fact that this whole thing is a bop

    Every Album has some classics . "Aint talkin bout love," " you really got me" " Runnin with the Devil" just off the first album.. In the past albums , the band made a couple of cover tunes because Ed's composition would sound too much like a song from another musician . On the second album , the band thought Ed's composition of one song sounded like Linda Ronstadt's You're No Good . So they made it a cover tune . On the Diver Down album , producer Teddy Templeman thought one of Ed's compositions sounded like Dancing in the Streets . So they made that song Dancing in the Streets , even though Ed didn't want it that way . On this song , Teddy Templeman argued with Ed that this composition sounded too similar to an old rock tune by a rock band Argent called Hold Your Head Up . Ed didn't and I'd agree with Ed . This is one of those times Ed got into a big argument over HIS music .

    Love this song but it’s not a typical Van Halen song. Usually much heavier and faster. Check out On Fire from their first album. Mean Street, Ain’t Talkin Bout Love, Unchained are others to check out

    Of the 2 synth heavy songs on 1984, Jump got all the hype, but I always thought this was a better song

    My favorite song that's VH 💯 is "Beautiful Girls" btw there is no reason to listen to them without front man David Lee Roth....in my opinion 😂

    Eddie created this iconic sound for the 80s. Just go watch the power rangers movie!! The feels!!!!

    Michael McDonald should of got the credits for writing and keyboard arrangements to this song which Van Halen didn't acknowledge or gave credit, shame on them
