Why the Harley Davidson Road Glide (Confession)

- Why did the Harley Davidson Road Glide happen for me? In this video I will confess, it was not my first choice but it ended up being the perfect choice. The Harley Davidson Road Glide is an awesome bike and I have zero regrets. But, in 2017, I was looking at the Harley Davidson Street Glide. For some reason, I never found the Harley Davidson Road Glide aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I did a lot of research for several years and as I did, the Harley Davidson Road Glide started to grow on me. So I will go over my reasons in this video. Thanks for watching and don't forget to hit subscribe.

Ride Placerita or Sand Canyon in Santa Clarita.
my dream bike was always a Street Glide, went down with my brother to pick up his and looked over at the Road Glide. 6 months later i went down and traded my softail in on the 2020 Road Glide. best decision ever!
That was pretty much my same feeling. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I've been riding over 35 years(sportbikes) and I rode my first Harley today. 2021 street glide and I'm hooked! Couldn't stop smiling. It's time to expire the sportbike and get a Harley. Speechless!
Hell yeah! I remember when I was in the same boat. It’s a different ride. I’m excited that I gave it a chance because I couldn’t be happier. Be safe and ride safe. 🤙🏻
Me too. However, I purchased the Road Glide Special and love it.
I felt the same man except I rode a road glide and fell in love with it. Paid for a 2022 road glide st just waiting for it to show up now lol.
I was in the same boat...until I test rode them right after one another like you did. The cockpit of the RG is so much more comfortable to me and the Boom display is much higher and inline with your line of sight heading down the road...in addition to everything you mentioned of course....nice vid, thanks for taking the time to share.
Great points here. Thanks for watching. I appreciate ya! 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Now that's the way ! Bring both Glide's to test drive . Why I never thought of that ! Super !
You’re riding in my old stomping grounds!!!!! I was watching your video and about 5 minutes in, I realized where you were!
Thanks for the video sir. I'm getting a bike in August, and trying to decide between the RG and SG. Right now it's looking like the road glide. Thanks again and keep gliding!!!
Hey there, thanks for checking out the channel. Keep us posted on what you decide to go with. Both great bikes. Ride safe. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I was perfectly happy with my street glide loved it! Didn't like the looks of the road glide it wasn't on my radar at all. Then at a demo day I was talked into taking a road glide out. Man what a difference! Everything you mentioned is true! Anyway wasn't much longer and I was ready for a new bike. I still thought it was going to be another street glide. But after riding them both again I went home on a 2015 road glide special. Just traded it in on a 2020 road glide special last year.
I like you was dead set on a street glide but have a 2020 road glide now! The faring was my sell point also. Good review
I didn't like the look of the Road Glide at first but all of my buddies were trading in their Street Glides for Road Glides. That's the no brained for me. Eventually it grew on me and I pulled the trigger on a 2020 RGS. I love it!
I am in fact looking at both. Your comments helped a lot. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video you did on the Road Glide. I stuck it out also but I end up getting a street Glide.
I have a 2020 road glide special and I had the LA choppers hammer head bars which are made for this model bike installed. Game changer!!! Awesome style with a T bar control and feel.
Nice! I do like the look of T-bars on the RG. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I have the 2021 RG and will never own another bike again! I went through the same thing! I was street glide bound got there seen the RG and it was settled. Didn’t even test drive it. I just knew by sitting on it that nothing would change my mind. Sweet bike man! 🤙🏼👊🏼
Hey that's some great info, wish I had done that. I have an Ultra Limited with the Bat Wing and it is a little clunky for sure! Thanks for sharing the Pro Action Suspension, I ordered a front kit this morning actually, can't wait to install them !!!
Thanks Joel, I appreciate you. Let me know how you like the front kit. Ride safe.
I have a 2020 Street Glide. Stage 1. Super Shox on the rear. Love it now!
I got a 2017 ultra limited. Did a stage 2 we really loved that bike. Lost it to an accident. Test rode a 2021 road glide limited and really liked it. Got one on order now just waiting to get it!
Harley is the only dealer that ever allowed me a test ride. More companies should follow their example.
Totally agree! Thanks for watching. 🤙🏻
Same for me didn't even consider a RG. But after short test ride I was hooked.
I feel ya David. I think its a common denominator for a lot of us. Thanks for watching.
Great info very helpful.
I love my 2015 RG . I like the way it feels “ open” . The fairing is not in my face ,it is away and still is very effective at cutting the wind. Love pounding the miles out on mine!
I right there with you. Thanks for watching.
Everything you said about the road glide I thought the same. I had a 2016 road king which I just loved but wanted music built it. Bought a road glide standard today. Less bling than the special but a perfect bike. Everyone and their mother owns a street glide anyway.
That’s a good way to do it. Bring both on the ride and switch. The big difference is one the handlebars turn inside the fairing. The other other it turns as one unit. It makes a difference with weather control and heat dissipation to the rider. When I sold harleys I sold more streets but if I got them on the road they would switch to the road glide.
I was dead set on an Ultra Limited until I sat on a Road Glide. I almost felt cramped (not really) on the ultra and I feel like I have more room on the RG. I'm sure its because the fairing is forward but I just feel more comfortable on the RG and it rides amazing. 2021 Blacked out Billiard Teal and just picked it up 2 days ago!
The first Harley I ever sat on was used 2012 Street Glide. And this was 2014 I was 18yrs old. And it just felt like a perfect fit. But, since then the look of the road glide has really grown on me as well.
Very nice machine. I personally have 5 Ultra's. But that is a personal choice. As long as you ride, that is what is important.
Dude, I have been obsessing over the road glide for a few weeks now and on the fence of getting one. Then I stumble on your page. We LITERALLY just left Santee!! Like in Bushy Hill Drive area. I was stationed in SD and just moved to MO. I saw you riding past West Hills High and I’m like what?! Is this a siiign?! Hahaha
Lol! I’m pretty sure that’s a sign. 🤙🏻
Been wanting to get into riding, for a long time... got really interested again, when I entered a drawing for a Street Glide Special
But started looking at the Road Glide more when I realized that some other bikes I've been wishlisting had fixed fairings...
So, Road Glide is on my 'big boy list' when I get to where I need to be to ride it.
It will grow on you for sure. But like I said, The SG is a great bike. Thanks for watching.
Steven sent us to your site! Great video!
Thanks for checking out the channel Linda. I appreciate ya! I hope you enjoy the content. 🤙🏻
I was in the same boat. I have always thought the SG looks way better and still do. It has finally warmed up in Idaho and I rode to Harley Davidson and test rode both the SG and the RD. I'm only 5'8 and had a lot of head movement from the wind and felt claustrophobic in the cockpit of the bike. Rode the RG immediately right after and felt more comfortable and on the highway the wind was nonexistent on my head and body. Even though the SG looks way better I love how the RG felt personally. That will be my next bike addition.
Road Glides are great...test road both bikes... ended up with the Street Glide.... did just shy of 20,000 miles in 12 months..... what a great bike... to each their own.... Street Glide Special is the one for me... enjoy.... ride safe
Damn 20k! That’s putting in some good miles right there. Thanks for watching. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I've had my RGS for over a year now and it's the best bike I've ever had. Before this I had a Road King and put an aftermarket batwing on it to make it better for long rides. Which it did. But I was visiting my parents in Utah one year and rented a Road Glide for a day to ride in the mountains. 500 miles later I realized that for my 6'-3" frame some day I would have one. I've got my RGS set up the way I want for long rides with a good seat with rider backrest, upgraded suspension, bars, mini-boards to stretch out and I put on a 10" Memphis Shades windscreen for touring. Just got back from a 4 day trip to AZ. Other than being a little saddle sore in certain spots I felt no aches or pains after almost 1400 miles. Best thing is I can strip off the rack and change back to my 6" wind screen and rip it on Ortega Hwy this weekend and it will handle great there too. I do love the classic look of the batwing but the shark nose looks and feels more agressive
Nice! That sounds like a good time. Like you, I'm 6'3". The RG makes me feel more comfortable all the way around.
Thanks for that information brother...
My pleasure. Thanks for watching. I appreciate you.
I owned Road Glides for ten years and I think they are the best bike HD makes today. Even though I own a new Goldwing now I still love Road Glides. 😎
You can’t go wrong with the comfort of a Goldwing. Thanks for watching. 🤙🏻
I had a 2018 Goldwing DCT, absolutely fantastic machine. Unfortunately for me a piece of metal i ran over popped up and caught the left square block that holds the center stand and busted it off that cross member which also hold the rear suspension. Needless to say that crossmember is not a bolt on and since its part of the aluminum frame required a total frame replacement which resulted in the vehicle just being totalled as it came out to be almost 13K in damages. Took a month but the insurance settled and I found a beautiful 2017 Road Glide Ultra with very little miles and took it. I will forever love the Goldwing but until I see Honda redesignes those square (catch hooks) blocks just waiting to impact something I wont invest in another one.
My First Motorcycle Ever Was A 2021 Street Glide Standard. Although It Was A Very Nice Bike... I Was Told By Several People And Friends That Due To My 6'4" 280lbs I Should Consider A Road Glide And They Were Absolutely Correct... I Could've Made The Street Glide Work But I'm Glad I Upgraded To A Road Glide Special.
I hear ya Gregory! I felt the same way.
Sweet Video!! I agree 2020 Road Glide all the way. Still surprises me that on average the Street Glide outsells Road Glides 2:1.
I do think its because of the bat wing look. I just looks killer. IMO. I wouldn't trade my RG for one, but I would gladly add the Street Glide to the garage without hesitation.
Congrats! Nice ride! 👏👏🏍👍
Thanks Tommy. I appreciate ya! 🤙🏻
Great content. Subscribed. Thanks
Thanks for the sub! I hope you enjoy the content. I appreciate you.
I've had two RGs and when I saw the 2020 cvo roadglide I bought it never rode the streetglide guess I never wanted to although I have sat on an Indian roadmaster and I know I would love that bike
I fell in love with a street glide when at a gas station and knew one day I’d buy one. That was around 2010. The road glides didn’t really appeal to me until 2015 (Mount Rushmore) that’s when I started to love them. I took out street glides and a ultra but wasn’t totally sold on it and because it was a long day testing I never got the chance to ride a glide. I ended up buying a 2019 glide ultra for me and the wife and me being 6’4 i never even test road one and ended buying one and I LOVE my bike!!!
Heck yeah Paul. I felt the same way. Thanks for watching. 🤙🏻
I've had a 2011 RGU CVO, traded for a 2019 RGU 114 and love them both, #Klockwerks windshield is a must for high speed travel. 👍
I agree, both awesome bikes! 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I was also a Street Glide fan. Until I road the Road Glide. Being 6'4" the extra room sure made a huge difference. As a large man the RG didn't make me feel to big on it . One thing I will surely do is remove the stock bars for apes and a tall man seat is a must . Other than that I'm very happy with my first big cruiser purchase. 2016 RG Ultra .
Agreed Big Amex Detects! Enjoy the ride and be safe. Thanks for watching. 🤙🏻
Big Mex.... Your Comment Felt Like I'm The One That Made It... I Recently Traded My 2021 Street Glide Standard In For A 2022 Road Glide Special... I'm Also 6'4" And Can't Wait To Get A Seat And Bars 🏍💨💨💨
@@gregoryhousch725 I haven't found the perfect seat yet. So many and I sure would hate to buy twice. They can be very expensive. I run a back rest on my bike. It helps with lower back pain and makes me feel more grounded when riding. The new Road Glide with the 114 is a bad dude . Congrats, when you find the perfect seat please let me know. Keep the shiny side up and Glide bro .
@@petedetects7012 Without A Doubt... 🙏🏾 🏍💨
I have heard other people say the some thing about the fairing on the Street Glide. I was so close to buying one because thought for sure that was what I wanted. Never thought I'd be riding a Honda now 😂. Great vid. Your channel is going to be super popular....keep going.
Thanks man. I appreciate that compliment. It's funny how we go into the dream with one vision and come out with something different. Thanks for watching.
@@FullThrottleHOG So true. I started riding 12 years ago on a 2009 Fat Bob. Maybe I'll have a Harley in the garage again one day.
Honda makes extremely reliable bikes. Rode several HDs years ago but wouldn't trade my VTX 1800 now for anything.
You're Absolutely Correct, Those Hondas Are Some Very Nice Reliable Bikes... However, I'm Just Attracted To The Sound, Look And Feel Of A Harley..
Congrats! Next you should look into picking up a set of gloves!
I just bought a 2022 road glide special, I went with the road glide Over the street glide for one reason is that the steering is lite on the road glide. Felt more like my road king.
I have a 06 street bob and I'm starting to fall into the 09 road glide. All I'm really interested in doing is getting a short rear fender and some t bars
Thanks for this Video. Good to know you are local too representing San Diego on your beautiful ride. San Diego is the perfect city to ride.
Road Glide is cool. Especially for touring. How far have you ride it? I can see me riding that to Vegas on the 15
Thanks for watching Mr. CT. I love it. I did an Ironbutt which ended up being 1,140 miles in 24 hours. That was my longest ride in one sitting. I’ll be going 1500 miles at the end of the month but stretched out over 2 days. 🤙🏻
The older gen RGs didn't strike me as great lookers, but the post-Rushmore RGs are both beautiful and badass imo. I too test rode an SG and RG, and even at 5'7" I felt clausterphobic on the SG. Not to mention, that "cubby hole" couldn't even fit an iPhone 7 in the SG fairing. The RG handles easier at low speeds, and is much more practical of a design. Plus, no head buffeting stock, unlike the SG.
After testing the RG, it was a no brainer, and still happy with my '19 RGS to this day. Only real gripe is the stock suspension, but that'd be the same thing on the SGs of course.
I share the same thoughts! First went to the dealer with my wife for an Ultra Glide, left the dealer with Road Glide Limited - no comparison IMO - feels more nimble, feels lighter even though it is heavier, less business as the controls are not on my face....
Right on! I totally agree. Thanks for watching. I appreciate ya!
i didn't like the lookof the road glide when i first seen them i though they were ugly;but i was on my 2008 suzuki Hayabusa so the guys told me to test ride both of them so i did i fell in love with the road glide so in 2022 i bought one and i put custom dynamics lights on the front and i put some chrome 14 inch la chopper hammerhead bars i love that bike ,i never want to stop riding it.
I was in the same boat as you, I came off of sport bikes. I always hated the way RGs looked. I only wanted a SG. In April, I decided it was time to buy a bike. I test rode a SG. I absolutely hated it. I looked at a few RGs but I didnt test ride that day. The next day I was on my way home and stopped by the Harley dealership and when I pulled in, I saw my bike. It was a 2018 RGS in the Hard Candy Hot Rod Red Candy Flake, I test rode it and I also test rode a 21 RGS in the River Rock paint. I ended up going with the 18.
Problem not issue.. Issues are magazines and newspapers. Been riding an Electra Glide for the last 25yrs, and riden just about every wind condition aside from a tornado, and have never felt sketchy on it. Maybe stiff crosswinds passing a semi once in a while, but never ever out of control. I've always liked the Road Glide look, but have never riden one. Will have to pick a gusty windy day and run down to the dealer to ride one
Just a suggestion, maybe could’ve included a walk around of both models to show aesthetic differences. Thanks
Holy cow man I was the same way street glide then road glide rg forever!!
Ever since I have been into motorcycles I knew the Road Glide was the dream bike... I remember going to the dealer and I had tunnel vision. Maybe I should have tested the street glide but my heart was with a shark nose! Haha
I have no regrets. I absolutely love my Road Glide. Thanks for watching.
Thanks great review.
Thanks Robert, I appreciate you.
Brother I did the same thing!!! I was SOLD on SG all day long until I took a RG and then I was what's a SG?? 😂😂 now I have 2020 RGS with sweet FXR DIVISION Motorwitch Bars! Hell of a difference!
Going to go pick up my Road Glide limited Tuesday the 7 th of September. I’m hopeful all the videos aren’t just commercials.
You will love it for sure. Keep us posted on your thoughts.
Well I drove to Montana and back from TN a little over 4K miles to pick up the Road Glide Limited. We did it in three days and I wouldn’t recommend that part, but in any event the bike had 18 miles on it and now it has 116 miles. I wasn’t able to ride much after returning home the next day because frankly my ass was killing me from sitting in truck seat. You were right. The Road Glide I think handles like a Cadillac compared to the Road King. It’s so much easier in the curves and is a well balanced motorcycle. The biggest problem I have is all the electronic crap and trying to figure out how to use it 😀. I wish I had made the trade yrs ago. My suggestion is that if you’re thinking about doing it then do it and you won’t be disappointed. If you’re wondering why I traveled to Montana to buy a bike it was simply price. I saved a few thousand dollars by spending 800.00 in gas. In my opinion Beartooth Harley Davidson in Billings Montana is the best in the business. This is the second bike I’ve bought from them. I was in and out in less than an hour. Those that travel from another state get Beartooth’s Corp rate on select motels as well.
In any event I couldn’t be happier with the Road Glide and Beartooth H-D in Billings.
I am coming from sport bikes and really want something I can tour on. I test rode everything from victories to indians. When I went to a harley dealer it was to ride a street glide and they salesman convinced me to ride a roadglide after. I bought the roadglide. That bike is truly the best thing I have ever ridden, it fits me well but both are great bikes and you should get the one (even if its not a harley) that you like the most
I hope they still make them in 4 years and available still in Thailand. I went with a Triumph for now here in Thailand waiting for my annuity in 4 years Harley’s are expensive here and the road glide will cost $47,000 here in Thailand but I believe this bike will be well worth the wait. Or I may move back to the states and get one there which the only cost 27,000
I’ve always thought street glides generally look better stock, but road glides always ride better, IMO. Like you said, adding bars makes a big difference also.
Totally agree!
Great video!
Thanks for watching, I appreciate ya! 🤙🏻
Our HD dealership can’t keep a street glide unless it’s a street glide standard. All the specials and CVO’s don’t last two weeks. But they got plenty road glide specials. I guess each location is different.
There's no ride like a Road Glide. Limited! The 2 bike test ride is the key for comparison - I did the same, riding the Ultra Limited first and then switched to the Road Glide Limited. The difference in handling is very noticeable, in favor of the Road Glide. I had just sold my 15 Limited and owned a RGU prior to that and other batwings prior to even that - so lots of experience with both. Love my 21 RGL.
So, the sumping issue is resolved?? Looking to buy a 2022 road glide limited! Once they come out!!😎
Used to back in 2006 when the streetglide came out it looked alot better than the roadglide but since like 2014 the roadglide and the streetglide looked equally good, ill always love the streetglide but i think my next bike will be a roadglide
I was the same, rode a 2020 Street Glide Special and loved it. After talking with the sales staff they said take the 2020 Road Glide Special for a test. When I got back from the test ride, with the biggest grin I said where do i sign. Picked it up a week later 14in bars, stage 1 heavy breather and 4in Rhinehart exhaust. Beautiful sound as well.
Those 14inch bars really change the whole dynamic of the bike. Thanks for watching. 🤙🏻
Same here. Went to trade in my 12 SG for a 21 SG but came out with a 21 RG. Had 14 inch Prime Apes and stage 1 with Dominator AC and 4.5 DBX installed before I picked it up. Have had it 7 weeks and put 3k miles on it already. Love this bike!
I thought exactly like you did!
It’s weird Matt, I’m constantly finding people who say the same. I now believe it’s a better looking bike than the SG. 🤷🏼♂️
@@FullThrottleHOG I agree, but making a purchase with the chip problem is very difficult to get a deal here in Tampa, Clearwater Florida!
Thanks for the info.
I currently have a 2018 Fatboy, went on a 2k trip (first one). Decided I needed a bagger for longer trips. Kind of narrowed it down to a SG or RG.
Just doing the UA-cam research now, which as everyone knows there are hundreds of opinions. I do believe the bike picks the rider at some point.
Again thanks for the info, really helps.
Ride safe
Both are fantastic choices. I honestly think you’ll be happy with whichever one picks you. Ride safe. 🤙🏻
i like the road glide thinking of buying one but i love my ultra limited one day i would like to have both in the stable
That’s the dream right there. I too would like then both.
It was so different for me. I wanted the road glide badly. Then bam I was hooked on the street glide instead. Then... I ended up wanting a road king and got the king instead and for my first harley ever...I LOVE IT
Right on man. It's crazy how it can all change in an instant. Ride safe out there.
Which one is better low rider ST or road glide for longer distance. Comfort etc
Road Glide all day! Hands down
Both are great bikes. Ride what makes you happy. I like so many bikes, but I cant afford them all lol. They all look good and ride great. I like riding weird looking bikes so I am currently riding a MOTO GUZZI. People always ask me "What in the hell is that?"
This is how I feel about the road king 👑
I hit the sub button👍
Thanks my man. I appreciate you.
I've had several Harleys over the years, my current is a 19 RG. I like you wasn't overly fussed on the look but they slowly grew on me over the years. I'm finding that the weight of the faring makes you feel the bumps quite a bit more, I was wondering is there anything I can do to make this better? I had a roadking a few years back and found it much better with no faring.
Yes what you can do is upgrade the rear suspension with legends. It makes the bumps almost completely gone. Watch a video on them.
Love the bars
Thanks! They are the Yaffe 14"
The weight of the front is an issue for some Men. Comfort zone is important. A lot of Women ride Street Glides. I hadn’t ridden a street bike in 40 years on a regular basis. I bought the street glide and love the bike. This is why we have options.
Thought the Road King was the best.
Wanted something with navigation and better wind protection (big ass FLHR shield is good tho).
I so didn’t want a RG bc EVERYONE rides them.
I see why they do. Got it and took it to 120th in Milwaukee right after I left the HD store. By the time I was halfway there bike felt like home.
Had 2 weeks .. 1800miles
I’m absolutely smitten
Did stage 2 and some other support mods
But holy hell that bike can run at 100mph all day and is so smooth. Yet at low speed it’s soooo balanced.
And I don’t care what ppl say those stock bars are GOOD. Can ride hours with zero hand tingling (they look bad tho lol)
I wish I could still ride. I would have a Road Glide and a PanAm. Hey, that is just how I am twisted.
That's the dream right there. I appreciate you watching Greg.
I have a street glide and just bought a roadglide st and i can only think about my roadglide 😂
Shark 🦈nose all day ..love my 2020 RGS ...no regrets
I'm with you Jean.
Welcome to the shark nose family!
Hey brother where did you get that leather vest
I have had 3 st glides and love the look
But once I road the road glide it was hands down a fun and more nimble ride!! I had the “CVO” st glide but nah had to have RG so that’s what I did got the special and lost my ass in the other bike lmao oh lord
Hahah I wrote this in the begging of your video and then you used the same damn word nimble hahaha it is Just that
Agreed. The look of the SG is still appealing but you just can’t beat the feel of an RG. Any additional upgrades?
I enjoy my road glide!!
Agreed
I am going to say this if you come from a sport bike back ground with a more nimble/light front end feel you are more likely to purchase a road glide because you are mostly used to that light front end feel.
True...Very true.
what exhaust?
I couldn’t decide! So I said fuck it and bought both!
And just like that, Road Glide it is. :)
I call the Street Glide a Belly Button Bike. Cause everyone has one up here
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the common theme everywhere. Thanks for watching.
Heck yeah man. Fun fact, Harley sells more street glides alone a year than Indian sells in there whole line up.
They are everywhere but all these guys aren't wrong
Hey man what bars do you have? You like a little under shoulder height which is what I want I’m 6’1 how tall are you? Thanks in advance great looking bike brother!
Hey Kristopher, I’m 6’3 and have the 14 in Paul Yaffe ape hangers. Love the bars. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Love my road glide. What brand are your bars.
I'm running the Yaffe 14inch ape's. I love em. Thanks for watching.
I would rather have a Street Glide. I don’t like the shark nose fairing.
I hear ya. I felt that way for a long time. I still love the bat wing look.
Exactly, how sad is it the spend 30k on a bike and the stock suspension will kill you. That's a fact with all HDs.
What is size of your handlebars
14” Yaffe Ape Hangers.
What bars are those?
14” Paul Yaffe apes. 🤙🏻
The Street Glide Is A Nice Bike... However The Road Glide Is Where I Need To Be🏍💨💨
