Man I fucking love deftones, there's a song for every occasion. Even tho they are very popular I think they are still somewhat underrated.
I agree
Every song is for every occasion
Under and over
@@jaxonhawkins6640 Deftones does the songs so much better
Every occasion an angsty teen could find themselves in
Top 10 isn't enough for Deftones.
No where near enough...
Obviously he agrees because he went WELL past 10.
Still not enough 😅
Definitely
Just list every song, job completed
honorable mention to Be Quiet and Drive's 2 chords only riff (epic though)
x2.
John Borowski how was that not there?
I've missed this song in that list too
yeah I was honestly waitin for this to show up and never did lol
That song is such a masterpiece even tho it very well might be the easiest thing I’ve ever played

I MAKE BETTER MUSIC THAN DEFTONES 😂😂👌🏼
🕴
The Rosemary outro is one of the nastiest grooves
Man that entire albums guitar is amazing
I love that song
oh yes
@Iqbal Hidayat Finally someone puts into words what I've never been able to put together. You're absolutely correct. Deftones definitely has a doom metal soundscape that they play around in. Especially Self-titled/Diamond Eyes era Deftones. The same heavy as fuck, droning guitars. If their music were any slower, they would likely be considered doom for sure.
Sabbath Influence that is sounds like Doom Metal/Sludgy
My own summer still one a my fav riffs
I swear I've had that song on repeat since '97.
Agree, my fav riff and that's saying a lot , being a huge Deftones fan since they begining
Iconic riff
Such a simple, yet menacing riff.
@@jackattack7940 exactly
The heavy riff at the end of Rosemary is so killer glad it's on here
*I MAKE BETTER MUSIC THAN DEFTONES 😂😂👌🏼*
@@5679_bruh you fine?
Stephen Carpenter is a riff machine
Dude nice profile pic, I love alkaline trio.
@@GUNMOFO5 My favorite album too! From injury to infirmary
@@Fearbeforedeath I've got some great memories with that album
👿🤘
Not anymore.
I think Diamond Eyes is one of the heaviest riffs I've ever heard. It just sounds so foreboding in its simplicity.
You've Seen The Butcher does it for me, it's just so....in your face, but it's so graceful about it
Dude IT HITS SO DAMN HARD! THE BREAKDOWN IS FUCKING BRUTAL🤘
Skylar Tucker I love that one!!!
Korea is one of the heaviest for me, but that also has to do with just the whole band's performance.
I reccomend you Toxic Garbage Island from gojira
Deftones have consistently put out pure amazing since the start. Definitely my favorite band.
Deftones for life!
You have a good point there
Deftones are amazing.
@@VERMILIONGOD did you use pitch shifter?
*I MAKE BETTER MUSIC THAN DEFTONES 😂😂👌🏼*
Gotta love Deftones' chill metal style...
Deftones will always be a pure eargasm to me every time I listen to any of their albums.
"My own summer" and "needles and pins" imo have the best riffs they've ever done.
Stephen is a very underrated guitarist in my opinion. Self taught and did it his way. A lot of the structures he put together really don't make sense musically and may at times sound dissonant, but they in lies the appeal of Deftones to the real fans who know! Ha ha great video!
Shout out to Gauze, Kimdracula, Street Carp, and Feiticeira for my honorable mentions!
WarWolfeX Kimdracula, yesss
He’s one of my favourite nu metal guitarist too but one thing I hate about him is he plays different tunings in every albums which makes it difficult to cover their song and I want to cover their songs so bad so I have to go tabs on google just to play it. I think right now Stephen moved up to standard E tuning with additional B string on their 2 previous albums if I’m not mistaken
@@maynardacosta9520 the 1 album was E standard, 2 was dropped C#, 3rd was dropped C, 4th was G# standard on a 7 string, 5th was dropped F#, 6th was standard on 8 string, 7th was dropped E on an 8 string, and finally their 9th album has all of the above but mostly 8 String standard.
Kimdracula, Guaze....!!!!
Absolutely love Stephen Carpenter, Deftones are, & has been my favorite band since Around the Fur. Can’t wait for a new album.
I have a similar style
The riffs of my teen years and adult life! They made my life beautiful. Buried my mom with all of the Deftones albums up until Diamond eyes. She loved them too.
I share my music passion with my mother also. Rest in peace to your lovely mother and God bless the Deftones for giving us such a beautiful soundtrack to our lives.
Have a buddy that shot himself about 19 years ago. He was buried in a Deftones hoodie.
Army of Ninjas Sorry to hear that, friend.
Deftones teach us that you don't have to be too technical to sound heavy.. It's all about the feel
“You have to be technical to sound heavy” said no one ever.
most metal isn’t technical
At times they are definitely very technical
Jazz and blues is soft but more technical than all metal combined
Koi No Yokan and Diamond Eyes both deserve their own top 10 😂
My favorite Deftones album is White Pony. And Diamond Eyes. And Koi no Yokan. And Ohms.
Okay I lied, all of them are my favorite.
around the fur has tough ass riffs bro
Feiticeira is the most underrated riff Steph ever wrote. The genius of it is subtle.
🔥 100%
The bridge of that song is one of my favorite Deftones moments.
So true
If deftones had a greatest hits album, it would just be their entire discography
I only like their doom metal type of stuff
except pink cellphone
@@Perseagatuna pink cellphone is good idk why people hate it
@@simonallard3770 the end is gross and the whole song just doesn't sound like deftones
@@SuscatFPSnot a fan of atmospheric, soul moving, ascension inducing shoegaze?
The riff from entombed will always put me in a trance 🥺
That riff from Entombed is mesmerizing. Stephen Carpenter is a genius. Thanks for this vid! Deftones all the way!
same goes for 'Sextape'.
Both probably Chino riffs
@@TheAlexmynameis
Nope, Chino said all those spacey riffs and and sounds were all Steph.
@@sayckeone citation? I thought Stephen wrote mostly dissonant guitar riffs, Chino tends to write very ethereal harmonic parts, such as Change and Minerva
@@BetaBreaking
He said it in a video interview shortly after KNY released, but I couldn't find it again when I posted my comment.
Rocket Skates is a really underrated riff. I had given up on metal but the minute I heard it my head immediately engaged into bang mode.
I totally agree.i remember when they first dropped that song before the album was released. I listened to it on repeat for a whole day
Are we ignoring the fact he is playing Diamond eyes on a 6 string?
I mean, there's little point in playing 90% of Deftones riffs on anything beyond a 6 string with an extended scale
Anon Anon true, I’m just not use to it. IK i’m a normie
And bloody convincingly too.
seems like he's got a pitch shifting pedal/plugin to change tunings quickly

Minerva is such an amazing ballad.
That Engine 9 riff is so good, classic.

Missed "Bored" and "Be Quiet and Drive", but still an awsome video 🤘🤘
Bored definitely is great song but I don't think of the riff in that one when I think of the song.

Riviere has to be my favorite in terms of riffs, its so spacey yet emotional.

Bro, the whole "Adrenaline" album is (sic)
Bored, 7 Words, Root and others
If you like heavy stuff then listen to When Girls Telephone Boys, Around the Fur, Lotion, Royal, and RatsRatsRats. If you like softer stuff then listen to Mascara, Xerces, Cherry Waves, and Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event
Digital Bath, Passenger
There is literally not a bad Deftones song. Diamond Eyes album is unbelievable and the brand new record Ohms is so dang solid.
love some pink maggit personally 😊
Love all the attention given to Koi no token. Most surprising album from the deftones. Did not expect an album that fantastic to follow Diamond eyes
it almost felt like diamond eyes was going to be the end. i'm so glad gore and koi no yokan came out though. they're incredible additions to the catalog of chino's work
Deftones have some of the best riffs and it's awesome how you can play them on a 6-string guitar with a down tune pedal
No headup? :(
That's the one i was hoping for too
Could've taken the place of Elite, which is practically Engine No. 9
Headup goes so damn hard
and Root...
What about Be Quiet and Drive though. Not the most complex riff Steph has came up with but it's perfect blend of hazey and heavy 👌🏼👌🏼
hexagram is one of my faves
Song hits hard as fuck.
FR
This is one of the few bands that comes to mind when I think of consistently good from album to album
Stephen Carpenter is such a beast. Definitely one of, if not my favorite guitarist
Great band. The First and Second albums is amazing. Actually putting all their amazing riffs in only one Medley is Impossible.
Yeah, I prefer Adrenaline and Around The Fur aswell. White Pony is still a great album, and so on... but I don't know, those first 2 albuns we're something else!
absolutely correct.... fuck band evolution almost every one of them made their best music early on
White Pony and Deftones were amazing also
Diamond Eyes
When I was a teenager I loved their first 2 albums, but as adult I prefer their later work.. Love it when a band grows with me :)
Needs a 2nd part, Deftones is too good and varied for just one vid. Great choices overall!
Back in 98 when I was 19 I learned Adrenaline front to back.. I had to know exactly what Stephen was doing.. every now and then I sit down and play through the album again.. SO FUN AND SO HARDCORE
It gives me goosebumps to think they started off in my state, near what I live, it's crazy, and they're my most favorite band.
That tone for Rosemary is perfect
0:49 went from vibing to sobbing 💔
I love how much passionate respect I've been seeing for Deftones recently! ❤️
Moana and Battle-Axe are pure magic
3:25 Gave me Pantera vibe...
Man, I really have to start listening to Deftones
Listening to Deftones = eargasm everytime
Love watching this dudes videos. Great perspective too 👌🏼
Every riff is a worthy addition, but Around the Fur is my favorite Deftones riff. I couldn't really tell you why.
i agree, ive recently become obsessed with the chorus for some reason.
My Own Summer was the very first song I ever learned on guitar. That video means a lot to me 😍
ROCKET SKATES!! I'd like to mention prince also has a killer riff
prince was the reason i clicked this video
Thank you a lot! Such a tutorial is so rare, this brought me so much knowledge and technique, go on ;)
This vid is great omf definitely want to learn these songs cuz they really do have some amazing riffs. Great playing btw!!!
Engine no 9, every time man....
That song truly makes me want to spaz out in a good way. Roulette Dares by The Mars Volta makes me feel the same way.
YES!!!!
I remember back in the day when Deftones self-titled came out. It took a long time to grow on me, and I'm ok with the album now, but I still think it's not nearly as good as any of their three albums prior to its release. BUT, out of all of the songs by Deftones I've ever heard, I get Bloody Cape going in my head all the time, even all these years later. (I haven't listened to deftones for a long time.) I think the drumming on that song is just so creative and fun.
This is a conversation i end up having a lot and one that seems really controversial when i tell it to deftone fans
I really really hate the self titled. Listening through anything that isn't Minerva or Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event feels like such a chore.
I love deftones for a lot of their ethereal sounding stuff. I loved Saturday Night Wrists and Diamond Eyes. Gore was basically fan service in my eyes. But i really really really cannot grow to love the self titled
@@charlesblasini2134 Self-titled were their darkest days as a band. They came in separately and recorded just enough to make it a passable record.
Just awesome man, nailed the tone also 🤘
No "Be Quiet And Drive"? Ah well still a great Deftones riff vid! 🤟🏻😌
Yamada Elf How can you not include that? That's probably their best riff
There is a lot of better riff songs that were missed.
The riff in the second half of Ceremony has become my absolute fave! So heavy and full of emotion.
Thank you man, very much. Deftones is my favourite band.
Such an enjoyable vid, thanks !! 🤘🖤
Hexagram honestly has to be the best Deftones riff.
You rocked those dude. You even got the tone down to perfection.
Great video. Also I think it would be cool if you tried to a guitar duel or collab with another guitarist. It would be interesting to see what solos/riffs you can come up with. Like your videos.
Emtombed is such a beautiful riff.
So happy Entombed and Knife Prty were included. Two of my top 5 favorite Deftones songs
I can dig it. I'd say Butcher is missing, and Lifter's one of my faves. You could prob make a Top 20 list, Stef is such a god. Either way, very nice 👌
Bravo man thats a bunch of powerful riffs
Thank you buddy! Glad you enjoyed the video
Great picks
Great video 🤘🤘
Great riffs ! Please could U do the same for "Incubus"?
Thanks! I'll take note about Incubus
@@VERMILIONGOD Thank U so much
Incubus would be good.
No Royal outro, CMND/CTRL, You've Seen the Butcher, Risk's chorus, Kimdracula, Poltergeist, Gauze, Beware's outro?
Beware's outro is skull-crushingly intense.
João Souza definitely poltergeist
Gauze outtro also....guitar slide soumds like a lightnimg wave
@Vermilion I'm gonna need to know what you did to get that guitar tone. I'm loving the deep bass and defined notes. Great work as always!
Nice playing bro ! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Knife party takes me to a different dimension fr, deftones riffs are sexy as hell 😩
1:18 I found this part so satisfying for some reason...
Also, Rosemary's riff reminds me a lot of Electric Wizard.
I just got chills reading the description. Let's go.
love all these songs
The entombed riff with delay sounds amazing 0:10
Chevelle riffs next!!
Yeaaaa it would amazing
Lol, Send the Pain Below sounds like Be Quiet & Drive Far Away. Great songs, though...
That's cute
Yes and Yes...Pete is an animal!!!
Bad ass brother!!! Love to jam the Deftones
Dude that was clean. Nice to listen to and my own summer is a great tune fun to play too!
Any chance of a passenger or beware cover please?
Hell yeah! No band compares.. great job! Reminds me of the Adrenaline Cassette I had back in 95.
Estaría bien hicieras uno actualizado de sus más recientes canciones. Saludos!
Beyond amazing good job bro
Good to see you got your video out guitar brother.
Entombed got me extremely interested in playing guitar. So beautiful.
the rosemary riff is so beautiful
I'M loving it!)) Thx
Been waiting for this, you never dissapoint 😜
Change will always be my favorite. It was the first song I heard. And it holds a special place in my heart that the others don't have.
Edit: Well, Knife Party, too and My Own Summer
Glad to see stuff from Adrenaline. I’m a bass player but if I were a guitarist I’d totally be riffing like Steph.
All of these were kick ass! 😎 Good stuff dude
Hauntingly beautiful
Shove It is their most memorable riff imo
The riff for ROOT is seriously underrated.
So happy you included Bloody Cape, super heavy song. Wish you put Be Quiet and Drive, though, my favorite Deftones song (at least one of them).
the tone is perfect. kudos.
