They're psychopaths. As they've said repeatedly every time a show or movie starts checking boxes, they can't empathize with anyone that doesn't look like them.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with creating films that people can see themselves with. After all, movies characters are made in ways that certain demographics can relate to them. We can also say nonjudgementally that most movie characters appeal to one demographic in particular, that being men. I think there is something beautiful in taking time to create characters that different, perhaps marginalized demographics can see themselves in. Think movies like Cocco and the Breadwinner, both emulate different cultures and experiences that many of us might never see and those movies speak to those people. What Disney wrongfully did was try to rip Star Wars from its original demographic and give it to someone else. The target audience for Star Wars was young men, they tried to rebrand it to women and the LGTBQ community. This is essentially trying to erase the original demographic. As an analogy, imagine if in the Black Panther movies, King T’Challa was cast as a white man to appeal to white people. That would be considered offensive and insincere, black people would be furious at the appropriation and white people wouldn’t be interested because even with the switch, it still wouldn’t feel like one of their movies. This is exactly what happened here with Star Wars, and why it is such a mess. Sorry for the essay, I just don’t want all this mess to blow out of proportion on people who make sincere movies to speak to different audiences. It’s obvious that Disney really dropped the ball here though. I think at this point in order to be profitable again, Star Wars would need a hard reboot. Unfortunately I think the Star Wars fatigue is going to keep that from happening for awhile.
Someone should tell them that no one cares how much they whine, scream, and cry because we're not going to listen to them or let them intimidate us anymore.
Let's get something straight: I DON'T CARE THAT IT HAD LGBT PEOPLE IN IT. I DON'T CARE IT HAD WOMEN, I DON'T CARE IT HAD ASIAN AND BLACK PEOPLE. THAT'S FINE!!! IT'S NOT A PROBLEM!! (And yes...I don't like being called sexist, racist, homophobic etc if I don't like something!!!)
I don't agree.. if you have too many of certain types in it, they will make it all about themselves.. that is what they do. There are some great movies with gay actors Count of Monte Cristo with Richard Chamberlain comes to mind.. or Lord of the Rings with Gandalf's actor being gay... but the secret was, they didn't make it into gay characters talking about their feelings, in fact you didn't even know the actors were gay.. that's how good they were.
I’m Asian and gay, I definitely do not want to see a representation on the screen to distract me from the storyline. I represent myself well enough and don’t need anyone else to help. People who do are delusional and pathetic.
only people with chips on their shoulder watch movies to try to see a representation of themselves.. guys root for characters they like. Maybe girls imagine they are the love interest in a rom com... but i'm sure they would do that no matter what the woman looks like
These activists who's ready to delete themselves over this don't even care about the movies and shows they be crying. They know nothing about the history and probably couldn't tell you the names of the main characters but by God they're gonna try to force their beliefs on everything
sure once they ruin a franchise, it is just on to the next thing to ruin... it's all about ruining things that the fans like, it's not about actually enjoying it themselves... and remember those fans are the bad guys for not going to support the new crap that gets put out, not the activists.

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in joy and were suddenly cheering. I think something amazing has happened.
Access media desperate for Disney Bucks. If it was a company the activates hated the headlines would be. "Disney declares Star Wars isn't for the alphabet community by canceling the most diverse (Disney) Star Wars show of 2024 ."
Next step is to deny it happened, like they just did with Echo: identical bigoted rhetoric, identical failure, so then they removed the director's name from it and... gave her the Ray movie!
The thought of seeing Leslye Headland weeping like a spoiled rotten baby is so deliciously delightful. Meanwhile, Alien: Romulus, a sci-fi film starring a female lead without all the SJW BS, is KILLING IT at the B.O.
That'll be 2 shows KK's company put out and ended up getting vaulted never to be seen again. As bad as Marvel's shows have done, NONE of them have been gotten that treatment that I know of ffs. I'll accept Feige having a good laugh at KK's expense over that
LOL before they do that they will dump everything on Ollies and Rosses before hand this is why removed from disney store already being clearanced out let it become another businesses problem they will fit right in witht he stacks of Revas and Reys still clogging up ollie shelves
"What about the rest of us," they demand. Well, if they were truly fans of the Acolyte, they'd know that the power of one or two is nothing compared to the 'POWER OF MANYYYY....'
Who actually watched this show? Lost interest on SW since episode 3 of Obi-wan. That was the last drop. The nonsense was a deal breaker. Andor was an exception. Interesting one that was. And who react like that for a bad show been cancelled? How embarrassing.
When is Kathleen Kennedy gonna get the boot? When will the media stop covering for her and admit that if Frank Marshall like another “ coffee girl” she would have been a nobody?
So many mega-failures. Things are different inside a company. I suspect key people are numb to it. It's both the execution and the projects that get green-lit in the first place that are not up to a reasonable standard. I hope that the concurrence of Deadpool's success and the Acolyte's failure is not wasted on them. It's time for them to get 'the message' from audiences. ESG funds from Blackrock, etc. are a Pandora's box, not a panacea.
They made the Acolyte for $180M. They had DEI cast and characters. Each episode was released every week, not dumped on one day like Echo. If that isn't given a chance then I don't know what is. Their definition of "being given a chance" is 5 seasons and 3 movies with nothing less than a 3 Billion dollar budget.
Not only was th show itself bad, it's just too much Star Wars glut for nothing. One of my biggest issus with how SW is being treated is how in terms of extended universses and series, these series are WAY TOO SHORT yet they keep stackin' em up over and over to the point where you really can't absorb them at all and have the anticipation of the idea of a new series coming up because something else pops in, usually with such bad writing that it makes the canon and purpose of the last series (and tthe movies at their core) utterly pointless. I know how back in the day a good window for sequels when it came to movies and games was between 1-3 years but that was before we had the intenet and constant 'news' on our hobbies so we were left to fill in the blanks ourselves which is what got people excited for upcoming installments. The current runners at Disney don't understand they can't present Star Wars the same way they do sone of their cheaper shows that aren't as lore heavy and just throwing them out there for a 'quick rush'. As a result, we've just gotten a lot of bad shows because no one wants to do maybe one or two projects that can last and give enough in-between to work on something else. It's become too much.
With better management they could have pulled it off easily. The problem is not the intervalls, but bad organization. It is a management problem, the wrong people are on the top, and it shows.
YODA is the main character in this show. It is clear at the end scene that Yoda is complicit in the murder and cover-up of multiple jedi. His cameo shows that he was in charge of everything that happened in this show and is purposefully helping the SITH remain hidden. If they don't WILLOW the series, at the very least they must CUT YODAs scene to save the Star Wars franchise.
Clearly behind the scenes a bean counter said "This is a big waste of money and needs to go!!" Hopefully, all of these planned spin offs see the same fate as the show and end up on the chopping block, just to humilate Headland & Kennedy even more
Y'know, I'm sure there are dozens of small or reasonably-budgeted shows on D+ and other streamers that cater to the same audience as The Acolyte. If that audience was actually substantial, at least one of those shows would have blown up and become a franchise all its own. On a similar note, if The Acolyte had cost 18 million dollars (instead of 180 million dollars) Disney might have found its viewing numbers acceptable....
True, but those shows would have another structure, more episodic and introvert than epic and extrovert. This is not exactly Disney´s forte, to be episodic and introvert. LGBTQ+ themes should be done episodic and introvert, small and with smaller budgets. But that is not how Disney does things, and they are not really interested in it. What they wanted was to have the advantages of both worlds: The epicness of Star Wars and the ideological progressiveness of those introvert and episodic stories. But you cannot have both, because it is a contradiction in ideas and philosophies.

The fact that Disney actively supported this toxic behavior and relentlessly attacked and verbally harassed their fans to me just proves this company needs to be put out of business. I don’t care if they make a Revan movie, I don’t care if they do Darth Bane, plaguis I will never pay for another Disney product.
This really lines up with a leak that WDW Pro reported on about a year or so ago: They were supposedly authorized to only film “a proof of concept” for the series (paraphrasing here…”they’re filming something but nothing after this”) , which they went on to promote as an ongoing streaming series that was “always meant to be a “Limited Series””. This was the only way it could ever and STILL honor Headland’s contract (whatever it is): if they pumped and dumped it. So pretty much a shitpost of a series meant to honor an agreement from a total ideologue
After "Willowing" The Acolyte, they should get busy memory-holing the sequel trilogy too. After Iger finally gets the boot for the destruction he has wrought upon Disney's IP's and Parks, I imagine that every image and mention of KK & Co. will be scrubbed from corporate HQ too.
X-Men ‘97 ruined Rogue. I have since replaced E. Page in the superhero-world-inside-my-head as Shadowcat with a young Sigourney which is actually more comic accurate.
They mistake "inclusivity" for "will appeal to everyone." And are then surprised when the number of views are a fraction of what they were expecting. You know why action movies deliberately appeal to the male audience? Because that's their audience! Star Wars has always been hugely popular across multiple demographics, but the target audience has always been young males. Going from that to pandering to minorities is a quick way to exclude their fanbase from their own fandom, while accusing them of being hateful and toxic when they complain about what they are doing to their favourite IP. And then they have the audacity to complain when their shows and movies get given bad reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. These are the consequences of their own actions.
I've said this before. DEI is a means to an end for Kathleen Kennedy. KK is the Morgoth of the Star Wars Universe. In Tolkien's legendarium, Morgoth (KK) couldn't stand the fact that only Eru Ilúvatar (George Lucas) had the power to create. So, he decided that if he couldn't create a universe, he'd corrupt it and bend it to his will, remake it. If she spent 40 years, KK could never create anything like Star Wars so she has to corrupt it, but she needed a pretext. And the DEI was a smokescreen to hide her selfish intent behind some noble cause. And Leslye Headland is basically KK's Sauron, Moroth's chief who was obsessed by bringing order to the universe controlling everyone, free will be damned. Like Sauron, Headland has a clear idea of how everyone should think and behave.
To me, it sounds like they aren't the majority they think they are. Maybe they don't watch as much as they preach lmao. Maybe they aren't "more than the manchildren." They aren't the audience, they are just authoritarian whiners.
Well, they maybe thought they at least had a MULTIPLICATION effect. As in, when critics like something, audiences are more interested. But that did not work either. Without the multiplication effect, you have only that tiny minority, that cannot finance a big show or movies by viewing them.
One also can see here the difference between CLAIMS and the TRUTH. It is CLAIMED, that the "toxic" fans are a minority. How do you test a Claim? Well, you look at the data. If that Claim would be true, than THE ACOLYTE would get a second season easily, because there IS a majority out there that supports it. But the data is all wrong. It shows the 180 degree opposite! That means, the CLAIM is false. And how Disney deals with it, that also shows you, that the Claim is TERRIBLY false, that it is so off, that they would rather choose to write the show off existence than to just let it accumulate dust in their portfolio. Normally, it should not come to this. We see here the complete failure of MULTIPLE test and control mechanisms in Disney.
@PandaPanda-ud4ne Unfortunately, for them, critics have now completely discredited themselves - their gushing reviews of The Acolyte, and complete disconnect from reality, just shows they are paid shills who aren't worth listening to for advice as to whether a show is worth seeing or not. A high critic score now means "do not watch".
Oh good lord, it's that Rachel writing again? All she does is write from her feelings, instead of looking at the facts. The show didn't do well, and you can't blame fans for not consuming whatever slop is labeled "Star Wars". I've not heard a single racist remark about why the Acolyte is bad. It's unanimously been about the writing and how freely they messed with canon. People watch entertainment to escape from out shitty timeline. Not everything needs to have a political agenda behind it just to be viewed. You can have your queers and other "non white, non straight" people be dominant in media without that being their whole personality outside of it. Look at the interviews the cast had beforehand. Surface level understanding of the Star Wars verse, like they watched a few of the movies, and that's it, but they can go on and on about identity issues. The Acolyte just shows the vast majority of people are over it, so they put their money where their mouth is.
The funniest part is that WE didn't have to do anything. WE did NOT watch that slop. WE did NOT review that crap. WE did NOT comment on that sheat. WE did NOT spend a dime on that trash. WE did NOT waste our time with that piss. But WE did DESTROY it. WE must be aWEsome. . . . I'm.
If you get activiists to write your stories, and ignore their ability to write, then you will loose your fans. It's not they are activists that were the problem, Dickens was an activist, Kafka was an activist, Sartre was an activist, Virginia Wolfe was an activist, Ursula LeGuin was an activist...the difference is they had talent and the current writers in Hollywood have no talent. They would also attack this post for having the men mentioned before the women...
It wasn't made for a lot of people. In a city, only a small percentage of citizens go to the annual pride parade. If you seek to apply such patterns in TV, you will get a similar turn out, even using Star Wars.

I'm right there with you. I would only add, I don't like bad acting, and I'm not going to let it pass just because the actor/actress has more melanin.

She must have dirt on Lucas and the others because there's no other explanation
We can be considerate of your feeling ,but we are not responsible for them.
Wasn't this going to be the way that Star Wars would go and grow?
09:10 this sounds like the most frail thing I have ever heard
YODA is the main character in this show. It is clear at the end scene that Yoda is complicit in the murder and cover-up of multiple jedi. His cameo shows that he was in charge of everything that happened in this show and is purposefully helping the SITH remain hidden. If they don't WILLOW the series, at the very least they must CUT YODAs scene to save the Star Wars franchise.
honestly he was kind of the main character in episode 2 as well
Clearly behind the scenes a bean counter said "This is a big waste of money and needs to go!!" Hopefully, all of these planned spin offs see the same fate as the show and end up on the chopping block, just to humilate Headland & Kennedy even more
Y'know, I'm sure there are dozens of small or reasonably-budgeted shows on D+ and other streamers that cater to the same audience as The Acolyte.
My favorite is Alex wife (Star Wars Explain) Mollie complaining lmao

The fact that Disney actively supported this toxic behavior and relentlessly attacked and verbally harassed their fans to me just proves this company needs to be put out of business. I don’t care if they make a Revan movie, I don’t care if they do Darth Bane, plaguis I will never pay for another Disney product.
Oh my God!!! Disney has started trying to put profit above creativity (the Message)? That’s heresy!!!
This really lines up with a leak that WDW Pro reported on about a year or so ago:
They were supposedly authorized to only film “a proof of concept” for the series (paraphrasing here…”they’re filming something but nothing after this”) , which they went on to promote as an ongoing streaming series that was “always meant to be a “Limited Series””. This was the only way it could ever and STILL honor Headland’s contract (whatever it is): if they pumped and dumped it.
So pretty much a shitpost of a series meant to honor an agreement from a total ideologue
Money isn't the root of all evil. The love of money is the root of all evil. It's from the Bible, as is most conventional wisdom we take for granted

Nicely reasoned.
When Kathleen Kennedy finally gets the BOOT then I’ll know Disney is serious about straightening out this bullshit they’ve been wallowing in.
It's like toddlers throwing a tantrum when they don't get their way. Mentally/developmentally speaking they may BE toddlers.
