Like it or not Man City have always been a working class team, before the investment they had the same amount of European trophies that Arsenal still have and no elite club in the world has stayed truly and utterly organic. Didn't United buy the best in 90s? Liverpool in the 80s? Haven't Madrid always gone for the best? 99% of the elite teams poach other great players. People will complain about City but not support their local team and if Pep or any of these top players are so charitable why don't they go play for the little teams out the kindness of their heart.

Obviously money is a part of it, but it's not all of it. Money is something when it comes to winning. But it's not everything. Pep took players that anyone could have signed and turned them into amazing players. Leroy Sane cost £37m. Ilkay Gundogan cost £20m. Manu Akanji cost £15m. Bernardo Silva cost £44m. KDB cost £55m. Kyle Walker cost £50m. It isn't Man City's fault that Man United paid £80m for Harry Maguire and £73m for Jadon Sancho. £70m for Casemiro and £66m for Alexis Sanchez and none of those moves worked out. Chelsea spent £1b and their best recent transfer was a player that Man City gave them. Liverpool spent a fraction of this and have won way more than Chelsea. Maybe just maybe the manager is more valuable than the money.

It's unheard of. look at Utd when they did the 3 in a row. They were outspending everyone in the league breaking 3 British transfer records in a single transfer window. And no clubs were even spending close to them.
Then you look at Bayern over the years buying every player from direct rivals whilst outspending with no one even spending close to it.
Then you look at PSG and Real Madrid currently. Both spending billions and competing to win the league against clubs like Girona that have a Netspend of £5mil for the whole squad.

Right off the bat, only Chelsea, Utd, Arsenal, and Liverpool are playing in the same league as City-Newcastle can’t because of FFP. That already gives City a huge advantage. City paid £100 M for Grealish, and he’s been a peripheral figure for most of his three seasons. Nunes and Phillips were both bought for 50M+, and both might never play any meaningful minutes for City. Other clubs simply can’t afford to make such mistakes.

I made this comment somewhere a while back but the oligarchs that bought Man City actually wanted United way back then because Utd were seen as the biggest team in the world (rightly or wrongly, that's a different topic) and then because the Glazers didn't want to sell, they went and bought their neighbours out of spite. Man City were minnows at best and would have remained mid league fodder without all the money and ergo, were it not for the success that money brought them, they would never have attracted a manager the calibre of Pep

    The only thing I want from you Simon is to tell the truth, the whole truth. The fact is Manchester city football club is the best run club in the world in EVERY area, including accountancy. The full story is;
OBVIOUSLY!!! What happened to Manchester City is ALL about money. This isn't the first time City have spent a fortune trying to catch up to Manchester United. Chairman Peter Swales in the 70s and 80s made league record player purchases. Kevin Keegan spent a fortune. And Manchester City were on the verge of doing a Leeds United. City were so broke, it is alleged that when the man turned up with the paint to paint for the white lines on the pitch, he wouldn't give over the paint until the City groundsman gave the money for the paint. (about the time of Stuart Pearce. I think that season City had scored 10 goals at home all season.) And if it hadn't been for the Thai owner, spending a fortune, City would have been bankrupt. Then the sheik came in and spent a reasonable amount LOL. No City fan is denying that isn't due to benefactors from Swales through to Sheikh Mansour. But the sheer hypocrisy from Mark Goldberg, his bitterness, sourness, and downright lying hypocrisy, is hilarious.
I hold my hands up, I don't know much about football. I'm not a real footpath fan, I'M JUST a Manchester City fan. I am completely biased to City, and a political view of football. Pep Guardiola, when paraphrasing Julius Caesar, when talking about the 115 charges absolutely nailed the political analysis when he said "there are no friends, there are no enemies, there are only INTERESTS." If you don't think The Premier League and UEFA and their members actions isn't about money INTERESTS, you are naïve in the extreme. And that's what politics is, economic INTERESTS.
I knew straightaway that the sheik hadn't bought Manchester City for sports washing or any of the other lazy crass sports page analysis, this was simply oil money diversifying wealth production from oil, to other areas. I too was astounded at the level of money that was being spent. How could you ever hope to recoup such amounts of money? Is Manchester City just a plaything? But it turns out this was a simple "loss leader" business strategy.
The sheik, like in his 13 other clubs around the world, has gone into each club and bought the best advice in EVERY area. There is not a single area in Manchester City Football Club you can look at where the evidence doesn't point to the fact Manchester City Football Club is the best run football club in the world. Why? Because now he has created a massive revenue stream.
Now, 115 charges. Now if this Sheikh has bought the best advice in EVERY area, and through doing so has created a massive revenue stream, why would you buy such terrible accountancy advice that couldn't steer him round committing international fraud in collusion with other companies such as Etihad? Etihad by the way, which is going public, which means its books have to be public to people who wish to purchase it. If Etihad is guilty of fraud, would it publish this fraud to the people who wish to purchase it? And if Etihad has accounting detail proving it didn't commit fraud with Manchester City Football Group, don't you think Manchester City Football Group also have that proof?

Its hard to say this isn't one of the greatest teams of all time. Its not purely down to money in the sense of buying players, but the money to set up the structure that we currently see. Having an academy that produces Foden, Lewis, Palmer and Sancho doesn't happen without money. Having a scouting network and multi club model doesn't happen without money. Having Pep, and the backroom team doesn't happen without money. But it still has to be executed

It's my opinion. We'll never know how Guardiola would fare without untold amounts of money, without a team/squad full of quality players, and at a team that isn't the biggest/richest club in its league because he'll never join a club that can't give him those things.

I need to see a manager have more than one good (but not great) season before I start lauding them to the rafters, especially when they lose a couple of their players and everything goes to pot. If a manager is that good they can get others to pick up the slack so that at worst they don't fall off a cliff and they still maintain their footballing philosophy.
Any sensible football fan can recognise the truth, and the truth is that De Zerbi still has a lot to prove.
Guardiola won the CL with a stacked, Messi led Barca side, failed to win the CL with Bayern Munich, and it took him 7 years to win the CL despite being in charge of the richest, most stacked and highly paid club/team in world football. That suggests that he wouldn't be anywhere near as successful if he wasn't handed every possible advantage he could have over his rivals.

Money argument is so dumb as MU have proven it. Money gives you opportunities but NEVER guarantees you success. Football, money and being a chef are quite similar.
Just look at Chelsea past few years, MU for the last 10 and even Arsenal since Arteta came in. If Arteta wins the PL, he will have spent £700m+ to do it. When Pep came to City, he had one of the oldest teams in the league and needed to clear a lot out especially given the style of football he wanted to play. He spent big the summer going into the 2017/18 season (close to £300m gross I believe) but won the PL with 100pts. The following summer he spent around another £130m gross and won it again by 1 point. So in 3 seasons with a gross spend of £430m he won back to back titles.
The difference is not the money as Arteta has spent more and had far more time and you can make similar arguments for MU and Chelsea and perhaps Klopp to a degree (it took him more time and more money to win a PL than Pep). It’s all about the manager. Depending on the time frame, Klopp proves it and Pep def does. There’s a reason top class managers are paid so much as it’s not simply about having the best players money can buy, otherwise, clubs would spend the big money on the players and anyone could be manager, which is clearly not the case
