The turning point. For the first time in the game, Midna is no longer playing the part of the haughty, invincible imp. She is now a friend in dire need of your help. 10/10 writing.
midna was so chill for the rest of the game too
Twilight princess was the best of the zelda games, and i grew up playing em all, even the OG nintendo ones, up to breath of the wild.
This comment gave me goosebumps. Such an excellent way to word it 🙌
Such a great part of the story, I get chills remembering my first playthrough
Dude, this game is my favorite Zelda game by far. The music, the dungeons, the characters. This game truly is amazing. And Zant, although goofy as he is at some points, can be very frightening as well. What he did to Midna at the Lanayru spring made me wanna get my hands on him even more. Of all the Zelda games I've played, Midna was my favorite partner. I'll never forget all my experiences with this game, because it's an absolute treasure.
The most painful thing about the game is that on second and third playthroughs, I discovered this whole thing was not a timed mission, but because at that point was so submerged I remember spamming A to run fast unintentionally treating it as a timed mission.
I never knew it wasn’t until just now. Played it several times and always without fail rushed to save her.
@@brandoncastellano1858 i think its safe to say most of us did this. geez the power of good story writing...
Dude same here
I literally remembered it as being a timed mission from when I last did it as a kid 💀 ig that tells you how long it’s been lol
Not a fan of timed missions, but I would have liked it here. I only knocked a pot over once in my multiple playthroughs.
Ok, fine. 7 times.
A small but incredible detail about this game - when you talk to Midna using L, she responds "Hm? What is it?" In the beginning. However, after you save her life, she instead responds with "What is it, Link?" Or whatever you named your character. It really shows that after you had done everything to save her life, she begins to respect you much more than when she first met you.
Let’s be real here, no one in their right mind ever changes Link’s name.
@@Hewasnumber1says you, I named my link George Bush
@@prismo1071 Not in your right mind.
@@Hewasnumber1 Who tf uses the normal name?
I always go for joke names.
@@Hewasnumber1 i named link zelda.
This part would've been great if it weren't for the random enemy music interrupting every 5 seconds
LMAOO FOR REAL
Honestly, I would pay for a Twilight Princess port where the enemy music is cut out from this section of the game.
@@lotrfan4237 that could be a feature in a future source port
Totally would have been so much more immersive for it not to be interrupted, for sure
Too right
i remember having midna on your back as wolf link running through the rain. very sad moment
When I first played this game, I hated Midna at the start. She was snarky, callous, cynical and always putting Link down. But when I saw Midna, weak and dying on wolf Link’s back, all I could think about was hurrying to Zelda to heal her. After that, Midna changed and was less snarky, which made me love her all the more.
She really did have character development after he saved her life, she wanted to save the light world too after
Huh really I never realized
i liked snarky Midna just as much as more humble midna
I actually like her acting like a bitch it makes it funny lmfao
saaaame, right from the beginning when you meet her in your cell in wolf form she seems kind of abrasive and mean-spirited and like you said the way she spoke to Link was usually very demeaning, but just like you said, seeing her so weak and vulnerable all of a sudden there wasn't any room in my mind for anything other than "oh no no no no please don't die don't die please midna i'm gonna get you to zelda i swear just hang in there crap crap crap" and just spamming dash past all the monsters not even engaging with them; i think i almost lost it when we were unable to enter that bar we go to because of our forced wolf appearance but then the cat showed up at the window or whatever and helped us out
Midna is by far the best Zelda companion in the entire franchise. She actually has a defined personality and isn't just a vessel for delivering in-game tips soullessly like Navi.
The virgin Navi vs the chad Midna
What about Fi?
Fi is basically a mix between Navi and Midna. She’s annoying like Navi, but she’s also helpful and friendly like Midna.
Tatl is basically fairy midna before midna
I never hated Midna tbh. I thought something like "oh, you're interesting. I actually like you."
I found myself on this part crying over her. I was worried af that she were going to die.
Me too but after my first play through whenever I would get to this part I’d just sit and listen to this track for a while
I don't think anyone hates Midna, I'm pretty sure shes well liked among most of Link's companions
@@benthemother3fan884 some of them did at first because she was rude and snarky, but after she changed they (usually) liked her more. At least, that’s what I’ve seen.
@@Icecream_man All of Link's companions start out snarky and rude, with the exception of the King Of Red Lions and Celia. And even then KORL thinks Link doesn't really have what it takes.
I ways felt "she's a bitch, but I like her as a character". I thought she was really interesting and I kind of expected her to grow softer throughout the game, but the way the game went about it completely threw me off.
This made me think of a quote from Halo Infinite. "Death changes people. It forces you to look at yourself and make a choice." You have to appreciate how Midna completely got rid of her snarky attitude towards Link in her dying moment and instead put the curing of his curse before her own wellbeing, as well as the rescue of her people. Thus, as her final request, she asked Zelda to tell him where to find the Mirror of Twilight.
I did not notice that last part. That's really cool.
I believe it was also that moment when Zelda also knew exactly who Midna was. I think she even says something like “Now I understand who you are” or something like that. I think this gave Zelda even more motivation to sacrifice herself to save her.
Correct @@pcdeltalink036
"We don’t know what kind of people we truly are until the moment before our deaths. As death comes to embrace you, you will realize what you are." - Itachi Uchiha
“Death changes people. It is fatal”
The entire setting makes you feel like your acually running to save your friend from dying. If the music and the atmosphere can do that, then the developers have done well in writing.
I will never forget the first time I played this part as a kid, watched Midna nearly die, then ran around Hyrule while not a single person was willing to help Link because he was stuck in wolf form and they assumed he was some kind of monster. It’s awful watching the savior of Hyrule get treated like a monster while he’s just trying to save his companion’s lfe. I don’t think any other Zelda made me the feel the way this game did
This. This song right here is the reason Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda game. Masterful writing only solidified by the intense and emotional yet simple music.
just beat it and it’s tied with majora for me as the best
Never played the game but this piece of music has an incredible beauty to it.
It is like a nocturne meeting a storm. Gaining strength out of something sad..
Midna is by far one of the best characters ever made in any Zelda game. God I would love for her to make a comeback, but it wouldn't really make much sense.
same here
Hyrule Warriors Definitive edition 😆😄
This song will always be apart of my life no matter how many years have passed. I had a fainting spell accident where i though i was gonna die cause i couldnt breath and i was rushed by an ambulance and it was raining hard this was the last song that played in my head when i was on the stretcher... Im ok 100% now but it was a scary night... :(
Glad to hear you're doing well, I love that this song is powerful to so many people and means so many different things to us all
Midna is such an underrated character from TP, seriously is one of the best companion characters in any game series. I just remember running through the field and through castle town thinking oh shit oh shit oh shit dont you die on me!
mmm, yes... the most popular character from one of the most popular TLoZ games is "underrated" lol
@@evergreenoaktree if you really wanna be a stick in the mud; Zelda is one of the most iconic and over saturated series out there. So anything being underrated is not true, it’s all mainstream. So when someone says something is underrated in Zelda it means in comparison to the other Zelda games, like ocarina of time, by far the most overrated of all of them.
@@evergreenoaktree who hurt you? its the least popular zelda game. Why are you here? You clicked on the video. why join us, if only to be pointlessly negative?

@@AuburnInAutumn Oversaturated? lol No matter what you say, Midna's one of the most popular characters in the whole Zelda franchise. OoT has no bearing on that.
It genuinely boggles my mind that people say this game is a bad Zelda game, it's my absolute favorite game in the seires and has some of if not the best music in any Zelda game
The postman music begins playing out of nowhere.. "Mr. Link, WAAAAAAAAIT!" Greetings Mr. Link, I have come to deliver a letter! Nevermind Minda dying, there is a letter for you Link, letters in fact. Well, my business is concluded! Onward to mail! 🙂
What makes this even more absurd is the implication that he just
Recognizes link through his wolf form
@@anhilo9716 Fun fact!
At least in the HD version, he WILL actually recognize you AND call out to you in wolf form after you gain the ability to freely switch between forms, you just automatically switch back to human during the actual interaction
He truly is the most powerful person in all of Hyrule
Why did you remember this whole thing?
Honestly I've never felt so frantic playing a video game before, like her life actually depended on me, this game will forever be the best zelda game to me
Except for fighting Photoshop Flowey
Dude and the rain begins to pour and theres lightning and worry and midna just keeps saying "link hurry"
*chefs kiss*
Justo acabo de terminar el juego hoy después de muchos años sin haber vuelto a jugar. Es uno de los mejores Zelda de toda la saga. La banda sonora es preciosa a la par que brutal.
never had ANYTHING in my life to do with Zelda Games but the music i know makes me cry. i was weeping to this and Song of Healing many times.
Midna is truly one of the BEST Zelda characters of all time!! Who else agrees?
I do
@@leopolichouk-zq4jl Nice!
I’d argue she’s the main character in twilight princess, as link is more of a vessel for the player.
@@rustyshackleford234 that's not a argument, the game is named after her, she's the Twilight Princess (while honestly for me both are the protagonists)
It’s crazy to think that so many people myself included felt the need to run as fast as possible mashing the dash button, trying to get midna to safety. Even though you could take as much time as possible, this music makes it feel like it’s a dire situation and we’ve gotten so attached to midna
It's composed like that on purpose lol. it brings that sense of urgency.
The worst part about this moment is that you're stuck in wolf form without Epona, so you have to make a mad dash all the way to Hyrule Castle on foot. I remember being so distraught over this when I was younger
People always talk about how Navi, or Fi are their favorite Zelda partners...but Midna...she had personality. She made you want to save her. She made you want to care about her plight.
As much as Fi is the most important partner to the lore of Zelda, Midna is the best written partner. She's the one that makes you care about what happens to her.
Tell me why this has been my favorite song from the series for years and I literally just realized that it’s the Hyrule field theme played slow and melancholy😭 I remember, racing to save midna running through the rain😢
Not the hyrule field theme.
The hyrule field theme is mainly made up of an extended form of Link's theme (also seen in *Link Will Save Us*, parts of *Dababa*, *Game Over*, *Gerudo Valley*, and *Snowpeak*).
This piece is written as a call and response between Link's theme and Midna's theme (see *Midna's Theme*). Like the two of them are talking through the music.
You can see it more clearly in this cover, where the two voices are played on separate instruments, with the new material in the piece played as a unison of the two voices.
ua-cam.com/video/9-hZB_Mn7Uc/v-deo.html
The "Hyrule field" part is Link's Leitmotif and the high-pitched tinkling notes is Midna's leitmotif. This song this their two themes having a point/counterpoint conversation. Almost like Link is calling out to Midna and Midna is weakly calling back to him.
I heard that an acquaintance of Telma’s defeated the beast that has been attacking tourists on the bridge. His name was Link… It sounds as though he brought Telma and her young ward to Kakariko Village. And here I was, thinking Hyrule was empty of men of valor… Oh, no, I don’t believe he’s from Hyrule proper at all. No, my understanding is that he’s from the small neighboring province of Ordona. This may sound horribly elitist…but people who do not know the city simply do not know fear.
I find this incredibly ironic because Link was definitely overcome with fear of losing Midna at this moment
Who said this line and where/when? I’ll admit. When I was playing this part of the game, my focus was on getting Midna to Zelda ASAP.
@@MrDarkness1119 I can't remember their names, but it seems like it's the dialogue you get when you listen in when crossing the rafters of Telma's bar when trying to get Midna to Zelda to save her.
I like how they snuck in the song of healing from majora’s mask into this song if it it’s so perfectly
I miss the old Zelda games.
cried in this part not even kidding 😭
Imagine also what would happen if there was even a time limit to the mission and Link failed to make it.
Midna regrets not figuring out early his hidden good will, only to find her own body cooling down slowly but also irreversibly.
Link, too, can do nothing but grieve and panic as the sinister laughters of Zant and Ganondorf go unstoppable.
Surely, if the scene had existed, its creepiness would've marked at least a very close second to that of the moon's impact in Majora's Mask.
This would have been great
I already knew the whole story of the game and this version of Midna's theme still put a knot in my heart.
Prob one of the best moments in the whole series
Everything about made me so sad. The helplessness, the rain and this sound. I just wish it wouldn't stop when you are attacked. This will always be one of my favourite soundtracks 💕
Nothing was able to prepare me how much this scene hit like the harshest rainstorm
Everything feela against you, rain pouring down, nobody is willing to talk to you, stuck in your wolf form, and Midna on the verge of death...
Running though hyrule field and through castle town desperately trying to find a way to save her felt so surreal back when I was younger. As a kid, I really felt like I’d lose her if I didn’t help her fast enough. This theme plus a hurt companion truly made me feel like link and feel links sadness in that moment.
I'm currently playing the Final Fantasy 10 remaster and when I heard the theme of the Via Purifico I instantly remembered this one. Both scenes happen in a dark place resembling a sewer after a tragic moment. I just can't forget TP OSTs
i don’t think a song from any zelda game hit me as hard but his one did, it had so much emotion and truly felt like the end times
美しい…… ほぼピアノだけなのも良い 雨の音が聞こえてきそう ミドナ、最初はあんなに腹が立ったのに瀕死になった時は早く助けなきゃという気持ちになるくらい好きになってたなぁ
One of the single greatest scores in all of gaming history.
Majestic ass song, still playing through the game the time this comment is posted. The first few parts of the game I had a hard time wanting to keep playing, but this section of the game reminded me that Zelda stories dont disappoint.
I still come back to this game often even 12 years after my first playthrough. This game is really something special.
im playin this game too, i got to this part like last month, pretty peak game so far ngl
bro how come the A word isnt banned on the comments
Every time I had heard this song prior to playing tp it was always my least favorite song, but when I played the game and got to this part I went "oh so that's midna's lament" and it instantly bacame one of my top 10 best songs of zelda
The perfect Zelda title.
As a guy who’s first Zelda was Botw, I find this game underrated as hell.
it was on the best games of the year of 2006 what a time!!!
@@donclarity Unfortunately, I wasn’t born yet to experience this masterpiece but now I can.

Such a beautiful theme for my favourite Zelda character
Undoubtedly the best theme in the entire theme midna's lament is beautiful emotional haunting and fitting for midna and link's best friend.
The moment that I heard this I was trying to keep the tears away because I was worried about midna ist so a nice and wel played character I was relieved that she count saved thanks to Zelda 😊😊😊
Midna is in a dire, severe situation right now and needs you now more than ever, you have one job to do. She lays on your back until you reach your destination across Hyrule. Save her life...
Such a beautiful song that words can't convey. Underrated song but an even more underrated game
Every now and again I must return to this song to feel. This is one of those times my friends

this is an absolutely beautiful piece of music. I remember playing this and feeling so bad for the now crippled Midna. Running to get where I needed to be. Love that game man.

i remember the first time i heard this back when playing on the Wii i actually speedran my way to Zelda.
just goosebumps the whole 2minutes while reading the comments of people who felt the same.. Damn this game is just too good.
This and the Sacred Grove (and Twilight Realm) were always my favourite area songs (along with some dungeon themes), so atmospheric and immersive...
snowpeak ambience too!
Any twilight princess player definitely remember this excat part, midna is basically dying on your back and you gotta haul ass all across Hyrule, no wrapping, or anything, just taking it all in, hoping your partner will make it
What a moment ❤
I remember getting so worried, I tried to go as fast as possible because midna was fucking dying, but I tried to attack and dash as little as possible because I was shaking midna and I felt bad
YOU SAID THE FORBIDDEN WORD
I was so focused on getting Midna to safety in this moment I actually shed tears
Midna had my respect after what Zant did to her and shes was all laying on Wolf Link's back dying,i kept dashing to get to Zelda so she can save her.
My name is Sam too. Seeing Zelda unexpectedly use my name while thanking me for her rescue brought some light to my heart.
I love how midna is the "love interest" in this game
Same. She was the only companion who actually had an relationship with Link.
I think this was the first time where a video game actually made me panic, i played like im aiming to break the speedrun record while this track played. One of the best video game tracks ever imo.
Easily one of the most emptional moments i had as a kid.
This feeling of you needing to hurry up badly and the helplessness and worrying about midna n all
This game is a masterpiece
J'avais jamais fais le raprochement mais le theme de Gwyn dans DS1 et Midona se ressemble grave
i feel like such an idiot not realizing that this is the same tune as the hyrule field theme from ocarina of time - it took 17 years and an episode of game grumps
Oh boy, I remember getting a rush of adrenaline and jamming the button to dash and save midna as fast as possible. There was no time limit but I thought it might just not be shown and was not about to let her die. Miss playing this game, I 5th playthrough is going to be happening soon
This is reason why , Zelda tears of the kingdom is always be short behind from twilight princess , because twilight princess has soo much detail on story even music when it plays on that sequence , you don't find on TOTK , because most of stuff happened in flashback not current events like twilight princess

Ribbit! Normally I live in the underground passageway, but I came out because of the good weather. Have you ever been below this town? It’s really spacious! After all, the underground passage was made so that the Hyrule soldiers could escape. Ribbit!
Remember playing this and getting to this. Had the gamecube version. Up until this point, I had just basically tolerated Midna. She was annoying, and a pretentious brat. But, I also understood why, even on an instinctual and emotional level. But I remember when the lanaryu incident occurred, I kind of expected that.
But after that, the first and only thing I wanted to do was help her, as if time was running out. It wasn't, and I kind of expected that, but, I cared. So, I booked it, even passing up enemies to help her. In following playthroughs, I still did this. Rushing to the castle to save her.
Even with the rain in the town, it felt like sadness was weighing me down, like everything suddenly turned on me, and its sole purpose was to keep me from doing it, so it emotionally felt like I was trudging through a swamp to save someone I barely knew from dying.
Was still the highlight of the game, aside from the final stand.

the death of terry influenced the birth of the replacement of the original bad guy model (the stouge) with terrance lewis to commemorate his dedication to lore. however, on the copy terry had before his death, there is supposedly a ghost of terry, that still haunts the game, this is on that copy...
Although in the game Terry's spirit doesnt move, its said his original purpose was to kill bethany...

Although i dont have any footage of me playing as bethany... the stooge will supposedly follow the player around, trying to kill them if they play as bethany...
the developer's dedication to terrance lewis (being an early tester of the game and friend of the dev) and his attempt to respect the work place accident leading to his death, he would immortalize terry in an unforseen way....
