If you look in industrial suppliers you can get sandpaper in rolls. Very convenient.

I've got one bought drum for the drill press, comes in very handy. Think I'll have to make the set now with some nice Zirconia paper!

Now this one I need to try fairly soon. I need to replace the sandpaper on a couple of my Rigid Spindle/belt sander but not all of them. Doing this will solve the problem without buying a whole new set. Thanks Rob. Take care.

Dear Rob, I wonder if you have discovered the sandpaper cleaning stick? It feels like rubber and is a rectangular long piece approx 50 mm x 25mm x 300mm {2” x 1” x 12”}. Use it on the running spindle sander and it cleans in seconds. It means that your life-time is at least ten times longer. Cheers.

I had the Ridgid for 10yrs...use it all the time and had no problem finding sandpaper.

I have one of the original grey rigid osc spindle sanders. I was originally put off by too much plastic. The only gripe I have is the belt sander attachment gets stuck. One of these days I may build a heavier dedicated unit. Matthias Wandel got me hooked on building tools. Way more fun than using them.

Thank You, I have a Jet 15" drill press and this will work great! The sand tubes for the store bought tube spindles are expensive and short and hard to find the grit you want. Thanks for sharing!

Just know that the bearings in the drill press are not intended for side loads. It will work just don't go nuts with the pressure. Change out the paper and let it do the cutting.

Buy sanding belts for a belt sander, you can cut them and do the spiral wrap thing on your rolls.

Does the hot glue leave a hard lump under the sandpaper?
I saw another ut video suggest using the sole of an old shoe to clean up clogged sandpaper seems strange but def works 😉

Nice but might try sticking spirals of sand paper on an old sanding sleeve. What was the paper tou were using?

Good solution to fight greedy sales schemes.
Was it balsa wood that you used for sanding demonstration?

The crazy thing is, these sanding tubes don't need to be so bloody expensive.
It's pure greed on the manufacturers part and surely can't be good for their sales of the machines.
I'm surprised china hasn't seen this niche in the market and started producing more affordable ones!

Curious to see how well these work, I have an oscillating belt/spindle sander and I almost never use the spindles because they're awful at removing material, they're instantly shot when used, and they cost an arm and a leg. At least when I buy quality brand belts (Mirka), I can see why they cost so much, they remove stuff and last much loner. The spindles are all nameless shit but still expensive. I don't get it
