It’s a bad idea for an album mix that happened to work really well. It set a bad standard for “louder equals better” but compared to what’s been leaked of the Monnow Valley sessions it’s an improvement based on comparison to the live show sound at the very least. You just have to like compression and mods a hell of a lot to truly think it’s masterful.
Interesting that he was cutting back all the guitar tracks, on be here now he was doing the opposite. He was out of his head on coke. Not the most professional producer
Don't forget though Owen had already completed the album when Noel came from vacation then they scrapped the album & make everything loud, he went along with it, gotta kinda blame Noel on that not Owen.
Interesting that he admitted to just ramming the levels to the max basically for marketing purposes. Makes it attractive to play on the radio for cars to hear over the engine noise etc.
I saw an interview with Noel a couple of years ago where he basically said that was bollocks. He said Owen didn't really know what he was doing in the mixing, in terms of levels, and tells this story now to rewrite history.
SavedByTheBellend If Noel was jesting than he probably was telling the honest to God truth. I've come to realize that about him. Hell , he'll even tell you straight up exactly what you don't want to hear simply because of his "nothing to do but do it" attitude. I've since adopted that and it's revolutionized my life. But I do it with caution. I used to he shy. Not any more.
I'm glad volume was mentioned! I'm playing music on a loud speaker all day. Nickelback, Tool, Deftones, Michael Jackson, REM, Goo Goo Dolls, Duran Duran, Sting, John Mayer, Metallica BUT when Oasis comes on, I have to turn it down! Their recording level is SO LOUD!!!! Lol!
I loved Oasis back in the day and still think the songs are great but the sound quality on good, modern equipment is horrible. I'd be quick to buy a remastered version if they made one.
@@ffedor77 That's not what Jagger, Richards, Bono and so many other great rockers said about Htchence's voice, song writing, and instrumental originality.
1:02 wow he said the F word 10x in 48 seconds, that's impressive
as a fellow welshman it's called normal dialogue.
"Definitely Maybe" is their best sounding album, hands down. They actually never sounded like that again. It sounds like a bulldozer coming at you

@@JDelvaMusic I agree, standing on the hsoulder of giants is their best sounding record. not as loud but certainly more dynamic.
@@JDelvaMusic yeaahhh man 'standing'
Makes it even more special

@@JDelvaMusic that's his point tho. He was unprofessional during be here now, high out of his head, and look how ot sounded
That’ll be why there’s a guitar solo to the outro of rock n roll star on rockband cause it must have been deleted like what Owen said

And the loudness war began
The loudness war began on the next album. Though in this case it makes sense
Owen Morris: “fuck fucking fucking fuck fuck fucking fuck”
The guy is an inarticulate moron.

He definitely maybe hung around with the Gallaghers for a long time with his constant swearing!

Why didn’t he like that Owen was welsh?
It’s a joke. English, scots, welsh and Irish always pay each other out
What’s to like about being welsh
Michael Bennett that’s true, and I’m welsh
@@oliverfield877 is Wales a country? I always forget about them lol
Noel has a chip on his shoulder about coming from an Irish background.
Why get rid of tony mccarrol? Personally i think he played the drums perfectly.
He could not keep the time= thats not acceptable
Oasis can't hold a candle to INXS.
Oasis are 💩
NOT better then oasis
INXS weren't even close
Inxs couple of forgettable songs...no group dynamic...yawn
