    Love my redcat.. It's a awesome rig rtr.. Remember turn your steering trim all the way down and back up.. You will get full turning radius.. Also change the foams out and the tires are perfecto!! Have funs great job redcat!!

    You should adjust the upper links as well, 1 up front and 2 in the rear. It will correct the driveshaft angle.

      This.
      I did mine and legitimately thought I needed a longer link......then I saw the other adjustment point 🤤🔫

    I'm doing this same mod but also replacing the shocks with 110mm length shocks to give it just a few mm of lift (going to set them up to sag a little). Just got them all properly set up with the correct oil and going to try and swap it all on tomorrow. It looks like a proper 1:1 rig with the 2.2 tires because of how large they made the bodies on these things. I was thinking of using a Dremel to clearance the front fenders, cutting both the body and the flares off by about 5mm almost making it look like a Jeep JK flare with the really short front. Seems to work in my head, just can't bring myself to cutting up the body just yet, it looks so dang good!

      Did you wind up doing this with the 110 shocks? I put 130mm tires on my gen8 and they're grrrrreat. I had to do quite a bit of carving and trimming

    • @Breezio69
      @Breezio69 3 роки тому

      @@hyperlogos I did put the 110 mm shocks on but I didn't have to carve up the body. With the articulation in the shocks I can almost stand the rear axle straight up with the front tires still on the table. Its pretty crazy.

    2.2 look more scale with size of body nice video friend

    • @stpbasss3773
      @stpbasss3773 5 років тому

      No not really lol picture a scale guy standing next to it, 2.2s would be like have 40inch rims lol.

    • @bombardier420
      @bombardier420 4 роки тому +2

      @@stpbasss3773 its a 10th scale, so 2.2 would be 22's. But with the size of this body, they look like 18-20 max, if scale. What he's saying is the body is much larger than most 10th scales, especially older ones.
      If you meant tires, yeah. 40's would be the entry level for the kind of extreme wheeling we do with these trucks. My 4.6s would be 46 at 10th scale, yet they look like 35s on the huge body of the truck (I had a 73 scout II, spring over axle on 35's. Trust me lol).
      A 5.5 looks like a 42-ish on these bodies. A 5.1-2 looks like about a 39.

    Looks great. I want 2.2s and to widen it about 1/4 each side.
    What wheels fit? Any 2.2 wheel?

    I have 2.2 duratrax showdowns and and my front portals rub the rim. Wonder if that would be an issue? I just got the Gen 8 chassis. Maybe wheel spacers?

    Just FYI... That is not how you check clearance on the fenders… You must compress a single tire fully and let the other hang since this will make the compressed wheel to go higher than it would with both tires leveled.

    What outer diameter does those tires have? I was thinking about putting 1.9 wheels w. 120mm tires on my Axe.

    Two questions. Why do you want 2.2 tires. And second I am looking at the same hex drivers as you had on the video. How are they holding up. Are they any good. Thanks

    You need to move the top link as well. If not your front pinion angle will be garbage. I missed the first time I extended it myself. Was thinking of getting a longer top link until I realized it's adjustable as well 🤣. 🥴🔫

    Great video, I can see that the 2.2 tyre and wheel combo will give better ground clearance but also see other youtubers stretching tyres, is there any performance advantage of running a smaller tyre on the larger rim regardless of the size [ie 1.55 on 1.9 rim / 1.9 on 2.2 rim] or is it just the look?

      now the only bit I've trimmed is covered by the mud guard, they're not 100% perfect but then the shocks are at max travel, they're fitting way better than they did in my first video on them

    Is it the XL swampers? Others have been using the normal 5.4 and not changing anything.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 років тому +1

      Hi this was asked before and I've measured these and they are 5.4's. In the other videos you watched did the people physically lean the car over and put pressure on the body to show the worse case situation? If I'd just fitted these and driven around with them under normal conditions you'd not have seen the worst case fouling scenario, which isn't apparent until you lean the body over and apply pressure by hand. I'd not want you to watch one of my videos think they fit, buy them and then find under pressure they foul. This is why I tested them at the max angle. No way without adjustment the fronts won't foul, I'd ask were they using XSmall swampers! :-)

    Took away from the scale look and introduced problems. Thats why i just put on a bigger set of 1.9 tires. Filled out the proportions and no rubbing with no adjustments after trimming the acess wheel well plastic. Trucks already tippy enough with that heavy body. Raising it up even more just compounded that effect. Hell even my bigger 1.9 tires made it more tippy. 2.2's must make it blow over with a sitff breeze probably.
    They even have 5.4 tall 1.9 tires... those are skinnier and probably woulda been a better fit in the wheel wells.

    Did you have to change the spur grear?

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 років тому +1

      Steve no I didn't do this as I was just seeing if they'd fit however I should say to drop the pinion down 1 or 2 teeth when fitting larger tires like these. Apologies I forgot to say that, normally i do remember.

    The front wheels don't line up with the body anymore. I think it would be better back where it was.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 років тому

      it's odd the body is on 100% straight you can feel underneath to line the edges up. Yet one side sits slightly different

  • @Alan_lay
    @Alan_lay 5 років тому

    Maybe a wheel with a different offset will solve the problem.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  5 років тому

      it could possibly but then it might foul on the inside. e.g. moving the offset may just move the problem

  • @danielnavarro8569

    You can remove the velcro on the body,glue a 5mm foam and then glue the velcro on top of that,so the body will sit 5 mm higher : no rub guaranteed!

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 років тому +1

    • @TerraQuestRC
      @TerraQuestRC 6 років тому

      only problem doing just that is the gap left between the pieces of the inner fenders, quite noticeable.
      But may be able to fill the gap with some crafting foam.

      good to hear, seems to depend on what tires people have fitted, people keep asking if these are the XL ones, but they're not
