I remember getting my Cartwrights a while back, fell in love with them. Back when they were cheap and had frequent sales, I only paid about $190 for them off the website. Hard to beat for a boot with a leather insole/ outsole/ heel + lemonwood pegs and good looks. Crazy that it’s now $345, disappointing.
Not crazy about fish boots or square toes, but Tecovas did recently release some green sueded caiman boots that looked really nice. As usual most of their stuff is overpriced though.
Amen. They have an almost cultish following, which I do not understand, for what is a mediocre boot at best. However, if you like to try a lot of boots, you can ALWAYS sell a limited edition Tecovas to the people out there who love them.
I’m thinking Tecovas may not be sending you any Boots to review Lol…. That Black Jack looks amazing and i am not a fan of Pirarucu lol but those I like.
Omg I LOVE this video. So true. Even for people that wear D width boots, the fit is often garbage. My chelsea boots fit different than my zip boots, which fit different than my bison boots. If i hadnt been able to try them on in store or gotten them cheap from marketplace, id never have bought another pair after my Prescotts. Oh, and for the price of their made in mexico boots, i can spend a few more bucks and get BlackJack boots! In fact my blackjack fish boots were on sale and cost me LESS than the Tecovas. I really think they need to fix the sizing issues and make standard the different stuff. Their canyon relic lizard boots looked AWESOME.
Just started my western boot collection and so far I’m liking the Dan post and Rujo brand. Got a DH work boots that seem indestructible and Ariat Chelsea boot that I rock with my tapered jeans.
I have a pair of limited edition lizard Tecovas I really like. I had a pair of square toe goat Tecovas - loved the leather but the boot was average. Rujo is my go-to big internet marketed brand.
I bought them today. I think they hit it out of the park compared to other styles I’ve seen and this if my fourth pair. Honestly the work boot and thick sole I wear everyday and riding Harley or hunting. Have the Dillon Carmen for dress. Just wanted another square toe for more balance so see how these work out!
I'm still pretty new to the cowboy boot thing, started with a pair of Ariat Ironsides, got some danpost sea bass. Now my go to boot is a round toe pair of gators from cowtown. I only have one square toe boot and tbh I don't like the way they fit that much.
I’ve never really liked the wide square toe myself. I like the narrow square toe or snip toe. It seemed like Tacovas was making traditional R-toed boots when most boots from Mexico 10 years ago or so were really long extended toed. They weren’t styled so that most Americans would wear them. Maybe now that they feel that they’re established, they can dip into a different niche.
Did you have a tiff with Tecovas? I understand the points that they’re overpriced and kind of pretentious. I never particularly liked their stuff but they have the right to put out whatever boots and styles they want and I bet there are people who like them and can decide for themselves whether the quality is satisfactory for the price. You could give them a critical review but this?! You’re ripping on them like it’s personal. I hope it’s not so.
Fair enough 👍 I bought (Dec 2024) from them a pair of boots and the same model, and leather, even was better quality I founded it 20% cheaper on boot barn - Cody James black 1978
I have one pair of Tecovas. Never wear them. I'd sell them but no one else wants them either! My favorite for the past three decades is still Luchesse and even they aren't what they used to be. Anyone try Old Gringo?
I purchased a pair back in 2019 and have held up to this day. A couple years ago I purchased a second pair and had to return them since the quality had decreased a lot compared to the initial ones I purchased.
I feel the same way about their boots now, Jeremiah, especially with this recent release. Should have been a French or round toe. However, I still appreciate their clothing line, especially outwear.
i just ordered a used tecovas to test size... they felt really good... too bad the price is way up but i liked the quality and felt really good and might order a pair from them.
Many are saying this video is harsh which it is. Some take their interest/passion too far. In any interest when you been on the high end you don’t want to entertain the entry level, computer & audio stuff is a great example. I’ve spoken on the phone with the people at Tecovas many times and it’s been amazing! I don’t see Tecovas as the top dog but the brand that gets you in.
But they are now priced at USA made Anderson Bean prices. Their quality has actually decreased as their prices have increased. They are no longer an entry brand. They are now just a cash grab....and I own 3 pair....
I have one pair of tecovas. It's a roper, and it still holds up. Aside from their caiman skin boots and the fact that rujo is just killing it with their own styles, i just dont see a reason to buy any other pair of tecovas.
Im not a fan of any fish boots and am disappointed that they wasted resources on something like this. But i really like the few Tecova models I do have.
I just keep chuggin along with my No.2 Chisos. I have yet to find another pair of boots for the price that can come close to the comfort and craftsmanship of the Chisos. Just to double check, I went and slipped on some new $600 lucchese (priced same as chisos) and they were flimsy, inside was a trainwreck with cheap stiching and materials on inside, and worst of all very uncomortable. Slip on any Chisos and its like sliding in to a Cadallic , while the Lucchese feels like sitting in a hard plastic stadium seat.
I was looking at Tecovas and then I discovered Hyer. Bought a pair of Hyer and so far so good. Would love for you to give us your thoughts on what you think of Hyer boots.
I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area and while I currently wear a pair of Cavenders house brand JRC and Sons round toe cowboy boots have them in brown cow and the black pair is goat…. Maybe they released the square toe pirarucu cuz a lot of guys in TX really like the wide square toe. Even though I don’t currently wear the wide square toe I think these new tecovas fish boots look good they way they did em. Sorry Jeremiah disagree
It seems to me that, whenever a new innovative company has been around for several years, and don't do whatever people (i.e Influencers) want the companies to do, people start turning on those companies. Now it's Tecovas' turn.
Really tired of this same old square toe with a double stitched welts. Please bring back the variety of different toe shapes and widths to cowboy boots.
To all those commentators that are unsettled by this video here’s my advice… watch the video again. JC is saying, for the type of build of this boot, and for made in Mexico, these are now the most expensive boots on the market. Tecovas has been adding $50 to their retail price every 12 months, while you weren’t looking
True that there's "nothing new under the sun." In every industry & category of products/services, there are lower quality yet overpriced companies. Of, everyone is trying to make a profit. I like the large scales look, but I love exotics (brought my first pair of Justin python boots in 1979).
@Rodimus75 The reply is to Jeremiah. It's a comical reply to song lyrics he's familar with and intended as a comical thought, not to actually burn the boots. Take your argumentative comment elsewhere next time please!
I live near a Tecova store. Really wanted to like them. I don't. They didn't feel right. I have boots from multiple makers. Tecovas didn't work for me.
Tecovas has spread themselves too thin with too many different products. Shirts, pants, briefcases, travel bags, socks, belts, jackets...too much. Narrow the product line and execute them well. And get some employees in the stores who seem to actually care about customers.
I agree. I had a pair of Tecova Midland for about 6, maybe 8 months. The lining tore at the (plactic) heel box and they were done. Worst boots I've ever spent $300 on, cowboy or otherwise. Hell I've had a pair of Doc Martins since the 90's. They might be ok for wearing on the weekends, but for work they're trash. I got a pair of Hondos for less, and the quality of literally every part of the boot is far better. I beat the hell out of them, oil em up and that bull shoulder looks brand new. I do disagree with the wide square toe though. All mine are square. Gives my toesies more room for activities. Can take or leave the double stitch.
Tecovas is not what they used to be. Everybody’s prices have gone up. In my personal opinion they are trying to act like everything they make is high end products and quality. They have gone away from what made them grow so fast in the first place. I have 18 pair or so of Tecovas.
Hey Jeremiah, I can't really follow where the rant is coming from. I know they are overpricing but so do other brands. The criticism feels a little bit too much.
Clearly you don’t know how companies work! They cater to the crown that buys there stuff. Money talks and BS like this video walks! There’s more people buying the boots they make, then the boots you want them to make! Not everyone likes the style of boots you like, and they have a business to run! Stop being a crybaby! 🤡
This is a negative review because dude isn’t getting free boots! Net if Tecovas gave him free boots, he would be ranting and raving about how good they are!! 🤡👎
This is a negative review because dude isn’t getting free boots! Now if Tecovas gave him free boots, he would be ranting and raving about how good they are!! 🤣🤣🤡👎
Tecovas seem to have just become another boot brand, without anything particularly special.
Rujo is now what tecovas once was. Rujo>
I second that
I still remember the day I got the email they would be raising prices across the board on all their boots.
Ugh!
Ahaha lol. Hondo and Hyer are far better buys, as are Anderson Beans.
@@gnarl12thank you
Not crazy about fish boots or square toes, but Tecovas did recently release some green sueded caiman boots that looked really nice. As usual most of their stuff is overpriced though.
Glad I bought my four pair several years ago when they were reasonably priced. I do like what I have. They are the most comfortable boots I have.
Ariat just came out with a futurity cutter toe looks pretty cool
Blakc Jack are essentially 1980s - early 1990s Lucchese quality on 2025 😁
@ I haven’t been fortunate enough to try either but looking for a nice pair of both secondhand but it’s hard to find any in my budget.
Thanks for your honesty Jeremiah! It is appreciated!
I've got a few pair of tecovos. You're right about the price and lazy style
Sadly, you are correct. Your subscribers appreciate your honesty and great videos!
Just started my western boot collection and so far I’m liking the Dan post and Rujo brand. Got a DH work boots that seem indestructible and Ariat Chelsea boot that I rock with my tapered jeans.
Look into Hondos. i have two pairs and they’re my favorite, like em even more than my chisos lol
I like this style you presented JC!! "TRUTH BE TOLD!!"
Would love for you to give Hyer a try. Love mine!
I have a pair of limited edition lizard Tecovas I really like. I had a pair of square toe goat Tecovas - loved the leather but the boot was average. Rujo is my go-to big internet marketed brand.
Wait until the 25% tariff goes in place
😮
Hopefully it won't last long (or won't have to be levied) because Mexico will get serious about fentanyl manufacturing and border control.
Got a pair of their shark boots on clearance. I love em.
I have one pair of Tecovas, The Doc, and love them. I appreciate your review, but it does seem a bit harsh.
I'm still pretty new to the cowboy boot thing, started with a pair of Ariat Ironsides, got some danpost sea bass. Now my go to boot is a round toe pair of gators from cowtown. I only have one square toe boot and tbh I don't like the way they fit that much.
This one may ruffle a few feathers lol, sometimes the truth hurt.
You can’t have the price go up and the quality control go down. Both of which Tecovas has done.
Loving this. Time for the hype to finally die over a brand who hasn't cared about the consumer in years
I would really like to have The Doc from Tecovas. But I love pirarucu as well
Did you have a tiff with Tecovas? I understand the points that they’re overpriced and kind of pretentious. I never particularly liked their stuff but they have the right to put out whatever boots and styles they want and I bet there are people who like them and can decide for themselves whether the quality is satisfactory for the price. Fair enough 👍

I have the same pair of Cody James boots and like them. And cheaper!
I have 3 pairs: never had a problem with them. I’m not very fashion conscious however, I just like well made traditional boots.
I have one pair of Tecovas. Never wear them. I'd sell them but no one else wants them either! My favorite for the past three decades is still Luchesse and even they aren't what they used to be. Anyone try Old Gringo?
Of tou want old Luchesse, get Black Jack
You are right on point with your comments, they need to go back to where they started with boots , they have lost there way .
I purchased a pair back in 2019 and have held up to this day. A couple years ago I purchased a second pair and had to return them since the quality had decreased a lot compared to the initial ones I purchased.
I was Thursday. Boots would start adding different widths to their cowboy boots. I bet it would give the industry a run for its money.
Any goods or bads you can share on vaccari boots
I feel the same way about their boots now, Jeremiah, especially with this recent release. Should have been a French or round toe. However, I still appreciate their clothing line, especially outwear.
Thanks for this video. I was thinking about getting Tecovas boots, but your video convinced me to look elsewhere.
I have two pair of tecovas but I don't think i'll be adding anymore. Even Ariat Benchmade is a better boot for less money.
At this point, compared to tecovas, Benchmade ariats are looking pretty underrated.
i just ordered a used tecovas to test size... they felt really good... too bad the price is way up but i liked the quality and felt really good and might order a pair from them.
I remember your early Tecovas boots reviews years ago. LOL. You went cross country or something in them.
Many are saying this video is harsh which it is. Some take their interest/passion too far.
In any interest when you been on the high end you don’t want to entertain the entry level, computer & audio stuff is a great example.

@ the deans I have felt like 10’s not sure what trash you’ll are seeing but they aren’t bad from my experience
Tecovas is the 6th street, hipster brand nothing more nothing less
... sounds like you know this particular euphemism personally.
@ see plenty of them at SEC/Southern ACC tailgates. Or obviously Austin
I have one pair of tecovas. It's a roper, and it still holds up. Aside from their caiman skin boots and the fact that rujo is just killing it with their own styles, i just dont see a reason to buy any other pair of tecovas.
I like your little Tecova song at the end. I imagine it expanded... shame ...shame ...shame ... ...
Definitely more comfortable than most believe that.
Im not a fan of any fish boots and am disappointed that they wasted resources on something like this. But i really like the few Tecova models I do have.

Since I do not own a pirarucha boot, all of them feel new to me lol but yeah. Since you mention it, the wife toe is the only style I ever see.
I was looking at Tecovas and then I discovered Hyer. Bought a pair of Hyer and so far so good. Would love for you to give us your thoughts on what you think of Hyer boots.
Traditional build
I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area and while I currently wear a pair of Cavenders house brand JRC and Sons round toe cowboy boots have them in brown cow and the black pair is goat…. They're like Ariat, except they only make the Ariat bench made boots.
I do like my Tecovas goat Cartwright but just bought my first chisos and I think I have found my brand.
Tecovas and Thursday are the same brand now😂😂😂
Thank you for this video!
Watching this while I just ordered them
Could you do a video or share your thoughts on the cody james brand exotic line made in Mexico?
Really tired of this same old square toe with a double stitched welts. Please bring back the variety of different toe shapes and widths to cowboy boots.
Im glad i got my earl.when they was cheap, plus them square toe is for people with squared feet😂
To all those commentators that are unsettled by this video here’s my advice… watch the video again. "New Year, new me." I like that.
Lol, Right on & the truth is the truth! .. I'm thinking of a song's lyrics & changing it to: We're having a Boot Burning Party! 😁
Yeah, because destroying something that you have already paid the company for is REALLY SHOWING THEM (how dumb you are).
Agreed, I don't plan to ever own tecovas
I definitely agree with you JC
Yep. Cutting thise costs and increasing Volume.
Micheal Jackson eating popcorn gif goes here👇🏼
Tecovas has spread themselves too thin with too many different products. Shirts, pants, briefcases, travel bags, socks, belts, jackets...too much. Narrow the product line and execute them well. And get some employees in the stores who seem to actually care about customers.
I buy clothes from Wrangler, and hats from Stetson and Resistol. I wouldn't buy clothes or boots from hat companies.
Is it a cliche or is it a standard, classic style now?
Sounds like beef! Shots fired! 😅
Definitely sounds like a case of sour grapes.
I couldn't agree more.
I agree. I had a pair of Tecova Midland for about 6, maybe 8 months. The lining tore at the (plactic) heel box and they were done. Worst boots I've ever spent $300 on, cowboy or otherwise. Their new schtick is the Cadillac of boots. Yeah right. I’ve never bought their trendy crap
I agree
Spot on
Big fan of the channel but this just seems like a hit piece and not a real review
Never been a fan of Tecovas
They just become another Apple company I guess😂
Square toe boots are for farmers who ride tractors. They’re just no good with stirrups.
I agree with you
💯 agreed
Hard pass on this one
I love Tecovas and dislike Rujo. To each its own.
Hey Jeremiah, I can't really follow where the rant is coming from. I know they are overpricing but so do other brands. The criticism feels a little bit too much.
Tecova boots are crap. Had one pair and didn't like them!
Bought a pair. Didn’t like them. At all. Sold them. Ever again. That’s why I won’t trust Rujo. Seems the same to me
Theyve been junk for a while now, poor quality, overpriced and boring
That's awfully opinioned with an extremely negative slant. Well, that's your 8 seconds, cowboy!!!
7 years > 8 seconds
Clearly you don’t know how companies work!
They cater to the crown that buys there stuff. Money talks and BS like this video walks! There’s more people buying the boots they make, then the boots you want them to make!
