With all due respect to Tony Rice and all the other great flatpickers, Sutton is my hero, and has been since the first time I heard him play. There is a magical tastefulness in what he does that never fails to move me.
oldwest517 I agree. Tony Rice, Norman Blake, Doc Watson, and all the other flat picking heros were all certainly great and their music was groundbreaking. However, it's a new day, and Bryan Sutton has taken nearly everything that made those other pickers great, and combined them into his own style. Bryan Sutton is the future of bluegrass guitar.
@ Bluegrass & Flapicking Guitar Channel Agreed. "Bluegrass Rules!" features a Bryan Sutton unleashed. Ridiculous picking that I have yet to hear matched on the flat top. "Rawhide" has some of the sickest and fastest picking I've heard in a long time and since.. I managed to learn a half-assed version when MY bluegrass band did it but we could never match the speed of their version.
hey boris, I saw Bryan play this with Luke Bulla, Barry Bales, Jesse Cobb, and Noam Pikelny a few months back. Bryan started solo like this, than the full band came in and traded solos, then he ended it solo..was on of the best things I ever saw. incredibly powerful and emotional
It is a beautiful piece indeed and hopefuly it´ll be included on Bryan´s upcoming new solo record scheduled to be released in spring. Not sure about the title of it yet.
He's got to be one of the best ever technicians, not to mention his beautiful musicality. He's a joy to watch as much to hear.

That´s right! First time I´ve hearded his playing on the Bluegrass rules album...I couldn´t believe it!

This is insanely beautiful. Just love every note of it. This is the "Overton Waltz" from his newest album "Into My Own".

All the comments on his amazing playing but none about the sound of that amazing Bourgeois!! Both are unreal!
Beautiful
I really want to try to learn the first one he played. Does it have a name yet? Thanks for posting Boris.

The first one sounds like something Julian Lage would play. Wait a second, Bryan Sutton and Julian Lage collaborating?? Now that’s an idea...🤔
banjo killer. mahogany? right?
Yeah keep trying you'll be as good as me someday
