  • Elvis Presley was not only the "King of Rock n' Roll" but he was also an avid martial artist. He studied Japanese Karate and later dedicated his life to American Kenpo Karate under the great Edmund Parker. Through Mr. Parker, Presley received a legitimate black belt. Elvis studied for many years and even on the road. He was a big supporter of the martial arts and even helped fund martial arts schools and events. He was best friends with Ed Parker and the Kenpo logo can be seen on his guitar. The movement he did on stage were primarily Kenpo. We were thrilled to have a day dedicated to him at the Martial Arts History Museum.

This is Michael Matsuda from the Martial Arts History Museum. Elvis Presley was a unique individual. He began martial arts when stationed in Germany and later met Ed Parker in Los Angeles while he was doing a seminar. He and Parker become very close friends for many years and he even earned a 1st degree under Parker. Elvis believed in the martial arts and he helped fund a number of martial arts schools and tournaments. He was an extremely generous and giving individual. He continued to promote kenpo karate until his death.

Elvis is good at karate in his younger days he could really handle himself but when he got older in the 70s he wasn't the same Elvis he didn't have that finesse the fighting ability had when he was younger but yes he could really handle himself in his prime too bad Elvis got out of control when he got older but he could really fight when he was young and had many talents
